ParticipantYou get what you pay for. BUT i have a buddy who owns 2 Berh 12″‘s with a Harbinger 15″ 300w sub. That setup does his 100-200person fraternity parties just fine. now if we are doing a much bigger hotel party or some such, we’ll use my Yamaha/JBL setup.

ParticipantI would go EV in terms of sound quality, but (just my 2 cents) i always think bigger = better as well. 8″ seems a TAD small for your 250 person top end…i would think a 10″ minimum..but Terry has had more experience around PA

Participantsounds like the s2 sounds right up your alley. it has the tightest integration with traktor and plays well with other midi controllers. also it is right around your 500$ price point.

ParticipantLaptop battery died (with 3 hrs of ‘charge’ left) in the middle of a set to a 400-person university-sponsored event… FAIL!!

ParticipantTo my knowledge, the ONLY “controller” that has motorized platters is the NS7 by Numark. It works with VDJ and Serato.

Participantwait for it. no sense throwing money away. the SX is worth the wait.

ParticipantI use 2 chauvet 6spots and two Chauvet LX5 Moonflowers, along with a few lazers from chauvet, eliminator, etc
oh i forgot and 2 fogs.

Participantway to go, sounds like fun! 🙂 (i always thought of mapping a sort of fader FX to the pitch faders)

ParticipantI guess a “standard” jog wheel controller seems like a toy when shrunk down to laptop size, but the Twitch feels like a viable work tool.

ParticipantWell the N4 to me seemed like a 4-deck re-hash of the mixtrack (not a bad thing at all). I guess – as a mobile dj – the size put me off a bit. The Twitch has some exciting features like the performance pads and fader fx, so i went that route. Also, the twitch is small enough to fit into a laptop bag (something useful when walking to a house party)

ParticipantWas almost dead-set on the N4 as an upgrade from my mixtrack pro, but that was before the Novation Twitch…and I decided to go that route. But if the Twitch didn’t exist, i’d be owning an N4 right now! loved all the features about it…except that it is still a mainly plastic piece despite being $500..

ParticipantSecondary Question: Anyone have 1 or 2 GOOD slow dance songs? In case they’re wanted? I’m used to clubs and don’t have any on my hard drive

ParticipantThanks all, this has been very helpful!

ParticipantWell seeing as how you’re on a budget, I’d say to buy a Receiver. you can look them up on any electronic home audio website, (just try Best Buy to see what one actually looks like). They’re essentially home use amps. You dont need to go buy a high-end PA amp for this. Receivers can ranger from 50w to 500w. Check to see what your speakers are rated for, and set about looking for a reciever that has DOUBLE that power rating (because it will be powering two speakers). A lot of new recievers come with alot of “fluff” for use in a modern home audio setup. you dont need all that. If i were you, i would shop around second-hand stores and websites like craigslist, ebay, or the used section of an audio website
