- EDM: Overarching term for whole genre. (Like using the term “Rock Music” as a catch-all for all the sub-genres represented: [soft-Rock, hard-rock, symphonic-rock, southern-rock etc.]
- Dance, Trance, Techno, House: Sub-genres within EDM (See above).
Keep in mind I really am brand spanking new to current electronic music genre, having only recently taken an interest in it. So if the above is wrong, please feel free to correct me, as I am here to learn 🙂
Pretty much. As far as I see it, EDM is what people use to describe electronic music as a whole. Then there are sub-genres in it, like house, electro-house, trance, breaks, jungle, ect, ect. Dance really isn’t a genre, since EDM stands for Electronic Dance Music, but you have the right frame of thinking 😉

I’m American, so I like to spin a lot of electro-house 🙂
I like to bring down the levels pretty low, and slowly put in the part of the song where you here the heels clicking, banging on the door, cell phone ringing ect ect (about a minute in or so). I always get the “what the hell is this?” looks from the crowd, but its just slowly building them up. It gets louder and louder and louder until finally the women says “You Blocked Me on Facebook, and Now Your Going to Die!” and it drops. People go absolutely nuts.DJ Skittles
MemberI was DJing a house party i was at. The house was owned by a really good friend of mine. Supposed to be a huge event (there were two DJ’s taking shifts) but nobody really ended up showing up. So me and my DJ friend drank and DJ’ed (ya its unprofessional, but when there is no one there, who cares right?) Its was pretty fun, swear to god I’m a better mixer drunk (but I was also drunk, so I really have no idea). Obviously, if there were tons of people there I wouldn’t have gotten drunk, but it was almost a practice sessions with nobody being there and all

MemberJust keep playing the gigs you get. Keep doing well, and make a name for yourself. If you keep doing parties, eventually someone is going to come up and ask you to do something else. I kind of have the same situation, I live in a town with 0 clubs, buts its a huge University town. 150 miles down the road are where the clubs are, so i dont get to them as much. But I do everything I can in this town, from University events to house parties to BBQ’s, just trying to get my name out there

MemberI can see where you all coming from definately. Im the type of DJ who just wants to mix everything, but not all events need it. I go to and see on youtube and stuff a lot of “superstar DJ” shows and events, so going from that where everything is mixed to a guy standing there just switching volumes really pissed me off. I just feel that if your going to DJ a 1000+ ppl college dance party, then a least mix a little bit you know? Or change up the track-list, put just a little effort into it

5 bucks per Person for a night a real cool entertainment? That should not be too much to ask. Many students will waste 10 times that amount on beer and drinks that evening or are they for free too? It is far less than they would have to pay to get into any respectable club with a club DJ. I am sure they can do that, or do they have no respect for the job you perform?I am never playing for free. In 2 weeks I got a gig at a friends house party, where I expect only 20-30 people. He is a friend, so I will play and I will cut him a deal, but I am never playing for free.
I like both your points. I have done a lot of the “I’ll play the first one for free” business, the problem is that is what they expect from then on. I was doing a “free” party once and the person I was doing it for loved me. But once the next party rolled around, and i asked for a little compensation, he quickly dropped me for another DJ who will do it for free.
With Terry’s point, getting students to even agree to a price is troublesome. And, yes students will spends tons on alcohol, but what I’ve found out it they spend everything on alcohol. Then, when they are getting money from people who are drinking that night, they conveniently “forget” in their drunken stupor or then “didn’t get enough” .DJ Skittles

I actually have one of the B315D’s, and it has really great deep bass. It is pretty deep in the back and creates some pretty sweet bass The first one sounds like a great deal, but from the picture it looks small, like it wouldn’t be able to handle the power very well. Like some people have said above, it may have a ton of wattage but if it has terrible SBL output then its wasting a ton of watts. The fact that a 1000-watt speaker is only $177.00 is a little disconcerting (for me at least). That being said, I’ve never had one of em so i dont know

I have a set of songs set up that have really good energy and that usually gets everyone pumping. Otherwise I play something that everyone knows for a bit then switch it up to something else later on.
Gangham style. I’ve been toying with the idea of bringing it into my set haha.
I like to play something that is a mashup, a top 40 song that has a house remix. After that i throw down a banger like “Big Bad Wolf (Dada Life Remix)”, something to make em jump and go crazy

MemberI have the Behringer Eurolive 15″ and I love em. I know Behringer isnt the best company but I has actually super surprised with them. They are decently cheap and super loud. That’s what I would recommend; I have two of em and they boom. I havent hear much about the Mackies or American Audio
