MemberI love my Vestax. It does absolutely everything I need and want it to do, and I personally think it is better quality than the S4. The pads it has are extremely useful. The only thing that I can think of that is not too great is the jogs, but besides that everything is fantastic. I’m not a huge scratcher anyway, so the jog wheels aren’t such a big deal to me

MemberI had the same dilemma. I went the route of the Vestax VCI-400 with Traktor. It works almost seamlessly. The only reason I didn’t go with the S4, though, it that my friend had one and his was buggy sometimes.

MemberI didn’t necessarily name myself like that. My DJ name is DJ Skittles. Skittles was my nickname in high school because nobody could say my last name (Ricklefs). So, it only fit that I slap on DJ at the front, because people already knew me as “Skittles”

MemberI put “yes”, but bear with me here.
Some of his songs, likes “Feel So Close”, “We Found Love”, and “Let’s Go” have been playing on my local Top 40 stations for whats felt like years (probably more like months) under different names. For example, at my local stations “Lets Go” isn’t by Calvin Harris (feat Ne-Yo), it is BY Ne-Yo. So when 18 months came out and there were 4 or 5 tracks that I’ve already heard a million times, they were dead to me. Before the album, I had no idea those songs were by Calvin Harris
Now, he does have some really really good songs like Mansion and Iron that are actually pretty good and I enjoy, but most of what he makes seems to Top 40ish for me, just sounds all the same.DJ Skittles
MemberI play both PC and Xbox 360. They are both good for different things. I like playing games like Skyrim and Minecraft (adventure games) on the PC, but I think games like Call of Duty (and Halo) (shooters) and sports games like NHL 13 and NFL 13 on the Xbox. I’am not really a fan of the PS3. Also, the PC is awesome for doing mods and stuff for your games, which I like a lot as well.

MemberThe Vestax VCI-400 is pretty awesome too. I just bought it and so far I absolutely love it

MemberI have to admit, I have never heard of the Audiophony controller until this post, but I own a Numark Mixtrack Pro and I can tell you its awesome. I’ve been DJing for a couple years now and I have had zero problems with it. It is definatly worth the money.

I’ve been using Serato Intro (which so far has been excellent and never crashed) and I’ve considered splitting the output into my speakers and back into my computer to record, but it’s a work in progress. I’ve rode the fence on VDJ Pro since I began DJing and I feel like it may be a more wise choice to wait until I upgrade controllers and get the newer Serato.
Ya, that’s kinda where I’m at. I want to upgrade my controller and get the new Serato when it comes out. VDJ Pro did me well for a while, but I run it on a Mac and it’s just too unstable. I’ve been trying to look into recording programs to use. ( tried using Audacity to record my computers output and also using Virtual Djs recording feature to try and record, but to no avail.

I was originally using Virtual DJ Pro (which has a built in recorder and is great for that). But after it crashed 3 times at 2 different gigs, I switched to Serato Intro. So far, Serato has been great for me, but the Intro version doesn’t have a recorder built into it (I’m not sure if Serato Scratch has it or if the new Serato DJ will have it). I’ve been looking for ways to record my mixes too, but I haven’t found anything as far as software yet. I know there are some hardware options, but I don’t want to spend the movie if I don’t have to.

MemberI would go speakers. I’m a college student too, and getting people to know you in that type of situation is important. It’s important to have sound instead of having a new controller. The crowd doesn’t care what controller you have, they just care the music sounds good. I have a Mixtrack Pro I use for all my gigs with 3 PA speakers, and it works great for me

MemberAlso, has anyone had any experience with the Reloop Terminal Mix 4? Just watched Phil’s review on it and it looks really interesting

MemberMy first ever paid gig was for my friends birthday party. She paid me like $50 I think. It was kinda lame, I was just playing music as opposed to a dance party or whatever, but it was still pretty fun

Agreed, it is so sick. I use the VIP mix usually more than the original

Its just that EDM besides trance, Techno, House etc also includes “mainstream crap that is ‘pop’ in its target audience and philosophy” -possibly the reason the OP is sick of it.
Usually, when non-knowledgeable people ask me what genre of music I play I reply Electronic Dance Music – when they go “I seeeeee, like Tiesto or Guetta huh?” I remain calm and reply “No, not this crap, but its hard to explain!” lol
HAHAHA
You have no idea how many people ask me, “So your a DJ huh? You, like, you love playing Tiesto and Guetta and Calvin Harris right? They are soo good!” I just laugh and respond, “No, I play good music.” haha -
