ParticipantIt’s dropped down to 58 quid! Buy it on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Traktor-Pro-2-Full-Version-unlimited-upgrades-to-all-future-updates-/120931430325?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Digital_Vinyl_Systems&hash=item1c28132fb5

ParticipantHey thanks, I hope I have some luck with it when it returns (hopefully replaced). Suppose it’s a lesson, everybody is trying to make money and ripping people off is becoming more popular so by selling me the x demo model which could have been known to be faulty, works to their advantage. Next time I’ll pay the extra few quid and buy from a shop, although I’d have only known it was faulty beyond 28days of the receipt. All good tho, thanks for your feedback Phil 🙂

ParticipantIt turns out my DDJ Ergo was faulty since I bought it and it’s been sent back to Pioneer! I had no idea, it was a demo model and now I’ve wasted all this time getting it set up. Both Pioneer and the online shop confirmed that if a parameter, eg, the gain is moved and nothing changes in the software till you move it drastically to get a response, it is in fact faulty. I’m considering whether that was their quick way of passing the puck and not having to go into technical detail with me, & whether it will return as no fault found, but I’ll just have to wait and see. Apparantley, they say it must be faulty if I’ve struggled for 2 months with no luck. What a pain though, I have gigs booked, 2000quid spent on the set up and no time to practice after it’s returned, bugger! Oh well, I’ll be the old Daddy again with vinyl at the festivals this year. Oh yeah, I tried rolling back to the previos version and couldn’t find any option, or instruction on how to, but found out it was faulty before I had rolled back, thanks for your suggestion though. Could you let me know if you have any luck with the later version of Traktor? Cheers

Participanthey, thanks for this, I’ll give 2.03 a try! I’ll also keep an eye out for the new update, hopefully in the near future (fingers crossed, today) I’ll have it working to an acceptable standard. I was also thinking of adding a plastic/rubber ring to fit over the play buttons on the ergo. I think this will help the problem I sometimes have when doing heavy crossfading and accidentally hitting stop on a track whilst in a cross fading frenzy. Then, the only other thing I’m hoping is possible is to have a key on the keyboard or preferably an alternative button to skip – & + on the pitch as you might know, it gets terribly frustrating at times getting the pitch to sync correctly during a mix (the sync button isn’t trusty unless you haven’t faded!) Cheers for the heads up on this one, it’ll be great to get going properly with this thing 🙂

ParticipantDoes Macbook pros battery consumption get higher when using external midi controllers with their own sound cards?
I noticed bad feedback on my laptop when it was plugged in to mains, using phono out to the mixer. I need to avoid this when playing live.
Thus, I need a long battery life macbook pro, but wonder if it will last 4 hours minimum (7hour expected on web browsing) to power my DDJ Ergo from it’s battery.
It’s a 13″ macbook pro, nice spec but need to be sure before I go spending. I’ll be using Traktor, wondered if anyone knows a 13″ screen will be big/bright enough? My eyesight is fine, just not sure if the resolution of Traktor can be adjusted to suit a small screen – then I’m complete! Found a great deal & can’t wait to get cracking with it!February 29, 2012 at 8:27 pm in reply to: What's the best Macbook spec to run a DJ controller? #15933Neil Dee
ParticipantCheers Phil (great site this btw!). My 4gb Ram, i5 vaio is here, but battery only lasts 3 hours, if that. So, I’m going to return it and pay a little more for a Mac, for better battery life running the Ergo live (avoiding power cables). Only running traktor pro 2 so I’d hope I would’nt need such beast of a machine to run it, hopefully a slim i3/i5 macbook pro will do the job.
February 26, 2012 at 6:45 pm in reply to: Controller advice? DDJ Ergo has every function I need, but no way to quickly skip cue – Any ideas? #15717Neil Dee
ParticipantHey cheers,
After a couple of months researching, I went into a store and tested it, finding out that the shift button allows you to quickly skip to cue far into the track. Pioneer CS couldn’t find this out, or many other shop assistants, as Pioneer mentioned afterwards that the feature isn’t in the manual.
What a great device though, I ordered one which will be arriving next week!
Beats the VCI-300 for me, as that appealed because of it’s better build, but the Ergo is far more functionable despite the light build quality, a pleasure to use and way more efficient.
Got a Viao i5, 15.6″ 6gb ram laptop coming too to power it along with traktor pro 2 so it’s going to be a fun week!
So I’ll be looking into striping down all the programs that take up the cpu to make it efficient for DJ’ing only, along with a battery upgrade for good life when taking it out.
Now alls left is to tag all my mp3s and ripped vinyls in wav, if thats possible with wav of course. I’m looking into the best way to organize my collection but I suppose I’d know better after playing with it (ie, SONG/ARTIST or ARTIST/SONG and the best free program for tagging loads of files) , although that’s another topic of course 🙂February 23, 2012 at 10:52 am in reply to: What's the best Macbook spec to run a DJ controller? #15479Neil Dee
ParticipantHey cheers for that.
I’ve had a little change of heart with Mac and thinking of sticking to my instinct.
I’m looking at getting a viao instead after speaking to friends but want to be sure that other DJ’s have used non-Mac laptops that have never crashed or had a problem, when using it only for DJ’ing with.
It’d be good to assure myself with opinions of non-Mac using DJ’s that have never had a problem playing out live with their laptops using midi devices.
I was drawn towards Mac because many people say they are the most reliable laptops for the job. It’s a trustable brand that DJ’s will follow to assure themselves on reliability, but since the laptop will only be doing only two tasks;
DJ’in using traktor
VJ’in on VDJ for disco’s (very rare occasion)
I would imagine that a Sony Viao would be a better option, as I’d have to spend over a grand to get a good enough Mac. I’ll be paying for assurance of quality on a Mac when viao is probably just as reliable, although viao just hasn’t gained the reputation Mac currently has. I know the operating system is the main reason for this, but I hear that windows 7 is reliable in this context but would just like some more assurance before I go out and spend.A new laptop is kind of like choosing a wife, u gotta find the right one before you commit!(My god that sounds cheesy as owt! I probably should have erased that bit, ah sack it!)
So yeah, I’m back between the Mac and the Viao after hearing good things about them, any comments/advice is more than welcome 🙂
February 22, 2012 at 11:33 am in reply to: How much time do you spend each week looking for new tracks? #15416Neil Dee
ParticipantI sometimes right click and save previews for a while (about half an hour of clicking) which is quicker than opening a new preview screen each time to listen to a tune. copy the files onto an mp3 player and go about your daily business on the bus, etc, listening to tunes rather than slaved on the pc clicking away. Also, just have a playlist of these tunes (if the site allows you to download clips) playing on your pc while you do admin/internet things. Very time consuming but the best way for me to discover the right tune. After a full week, I might find 4 tunes out of 1000 to buy, I’m just that piccy but keeps my sets original and away from bland sounding tracks that are amongst many tunes when looking through. Especially with Drum n Bass, it’s changed so much most of it sounds like chart music these days!

ParticipantIn my opinion, I’d get the DDJ Ergo. I wouldn’t bother with CDs as I went from vinyl to CDs over the course of 10 years and can’t stand CDs anymore! They aren’t reliable, u have to organize your whole collection and burn multiple CDs that may read disc errors (rarely) that can ruin your set. Many CDs also force you to wait for the CD to read before cueing, which can lead you towards missing your cue.
I played with the VCI-300 MK2 and the DDJ Ergo yesterday for the first time. The VCI-300mk2 seemed more appealing at first but is limited. It had a better build and is more compact but that’s it, the Ergo is just as straight forward for beat matching and works almost just like any CD/Vinyl beat matching hardware perfectly with additional features nicely mapped with the software.
I’ve learned that people only have opinions on products and you should take your own judgement after testing them in a shop. I was drawn towards the vci-300 for quality, but altho the Ergo seems to be a cheaper build, it’s more effective and spot on than any other controllers I’ve used over 3 months of researching and I’ll be buying one asap. It’s also lightweight to take out to clubs etc, making your set up custom to you without having to get familiar with CDs and clubs varied styles of mixers should you want to start gigging, this will make practice more efficient as there will be no changes to your set up.
Spot on for beat matching and in my opinion, isn’t just a begginer model, although a lot of people say it is because it doesn’t have a shiny metallic finish which actually makes it more portable. I love the product and can’t wait to get one!
