MemberPros:
-portable (I can fit my entire setup into my backpack)
-allows a great amount of music to be carried and searched easily
-modular and easy to backup: I can carry one controller, two controllers or no controllers with me depending on what I need; in my backpack I have 3 ways of setting up my sound (NI A2DJ, Mixtrack Pro’s sound card and USB+USB), I can even DJ without headphones, I have 2 OSes and so on.. anything that can fail can be easily backed up
-much more possibilities: syncing, sampling, looping, beat-effects, beatjuggling…
-easier to get it to fit your needs: MIDI mapping makes the controller work the way you want it, also it’s much easier to independently change the program, controller(s), mapping etc than for example your CDJs.
-easier to manipulate music (no burning CDs or looking for records)
-DVS/hybrid options
-you can totally play a pre-recorded mix (like mr. Angelo) and watch South Park in the booth 🙂Cons:
-quirks. Software can be buggy, laptops can freeze or crash, that stuff happens more often than other gear failing.
-the “OMG SYNC UR NOT A DJ LOLOLOL” thing.. it can be annoying, creates a social stigma.
-easy to get lazy and fall into the trap of limiting yourself to digital mixing only.
-like it or not, you have to keep your eyes on the screen a lot and it looks bad..
-fragile: I’ve seen a CDJ400 “drink” half a bottle of beer and it kept on working with no problems. Try that on your laptop….wait, don’t.DJ Max D.
MemberW00t! I’ll drink to that 🙂

MemberI was like “oh damn, I didn’t see the competition in time” and then I saw the “haven’t yet played a digital gig” line and though about my three gigs lined up this weekend.. like a boss 😎
Best of luck with the video course! 🙂DJ Max D.

No. Don’t. Just don’t.
To be perfectly honest I often came here just to read your posts because they are so inspiring and constructive and positive.. After reading what had happened to you during your life, I have even more respect for you and believe me, the world would be at great loss without you. Keep your chin up and don’t think bad thoughts, please 🙂 We still need you to inspire us.DJ Max D.
MemberWell, two moments come to mind..
First CDJ gig, connected the players to the wrong channels (A to B and B to A).. When I figured out what I did wrong me and the other two DJs couldn’t stop laughing for a few minutes..
The other was a 10 minute long situation.. some guy was trying to take a picture of me and his friends in the DJ booth and he had a new camera. So he points, the focus light comes on aaaand.. no flash, no pic. He gets confused, presses the button a few more times, still nothing happens. He lowers the camera to look what’s wrong and suddenly it takes a photo of his feet.. Now imagine that happening 5 times in a row. I laughed so hard there I almost missed a mix 🙂DJ Max D.
MemberWell, I turn down most “this evening” gigs.. club owners here have a bad habit of phoning you around, say four in the afternoon and asking you if you can appear at the club around nine and maybe “invite a few people”.. That’s a no-no (unless I know there is a situation like when someone bigger cancelled and similar).
Second, a gig where I don’t feel safe. No booth? No me. Fights in the past? No me. Simple as that.
Third, club owners with a not-so-reputation when it comes to paying and respecting DJs.Almost all gigs that don’t fall into these categories are okay for me..

MemberWoah.. I have like a TopZillion list, let’s try to find a top 5.. err.. here goes *closes eyes and randomly pulls out a disc*
1. Green Mile
2. Fight Club
3. Equilibrium
4. Sin City
5. Kad porastem biću Kengur (“When I grow up I want to be the Kangaroo”, it’s a Serbian film)DJ Max D.
MemberFor me it’s the bass guitar, music in general, keeping myself in shape (hiking, running, cycling etc) and massage.. and sleeping, of course 😀

MemberThanks for the opinion Gre 🙂
Unfortunately import laws here are still ridiculous so I can’t buy anything from DJTT 🙁
DJ Max D.
MemberThat would be awesome 🙂

MemberThanks, you just told me what I wanted to hear 🙂
I will most probably go for the first option, CDJs are too expensive to buy just for practicing for a few clubs that have them..
Thanks again!DJ Max D.
MemberFor me it was portability. I live around 10 miles from the city nearby and that means a lot of public transportation and taxis.. So a laptop bag and a controller bag are the best solution for me.

Membera chillout/deep tune (at least I think it falls under those genres) that I LOVE playing at the beginning of my set..

MemberHeh, this is the exact thought that was on my mind recently.. I have two scheduled work sessions on the seaside and a two week gap between them so I am hitting up local bars and clubs.. sent my mixes, bio and contact to all clubs in that area I could find.

MemberWell, I got the singer from one band I was working with to record some stuff for me.. She called her to record a bass line for a song she made and while we were in the studio I asked her for a few short drops and got it done with no trouble.. It’s not hard to record and make your own.
