In my opinion, it wasnt that hard to use using HID using traktor.. but using CDs is awhole new story. you dont have the benefit of waveforms and all, and specially the sync which in my opinion should be ONLY used in case of OMG emergency situations.

It depends on what CDJ you are talking about!

Denon SC39000 and most Pio CDJs do have waveforms in the display!
But CDs are different because you will have to change CD almost every time you want a new song
and you can not make playlists in CDs (you can on the other hand make a playlist in for example excell
and print or have your lapptop with you…..

I would also add to that s4 argument that IMO the MC6000 is the better chice:

I think you have made a Denon fanboy out of me. That has seriously helped me out.

It does not sound like I would really need to use the I/O to up to 24 then for recording a mix. I could sell it for cash towards a Traktor card later, or maybe keep it laying around for the odd party/scenario where it’s just me, my laptop, the house mixer/PA and my need for a sound card (low end Toshiba laptop). I’m in no particular hurry to have to use timecode if it won’t be overly necessary. I did get a great offer for some used CDJ 400s if I want to go ahead and pull the trigger.

I would really only need the timecode function if I wanted to hit certain hot cues, samples and loops on A CD that I wanted to use pre-set from my software/controller mapping v. syncing up by using jogweels and cue button/features on the CDJ, right?

Some clarification:

The only time you will need an “extra” soundcard is if you want to use timecode (for rotating platters or CDJs that does not have MIDI) For extra MIDI you will not need any more soundcard than the one in the MC3000!

You can connect 2x CD players to the MC3000 and mix them with a knob 1 2 if you want to play audio CDs
Or you can connect extra MIDI divices simultainusly to your laptop for extra knobs and buttons.

As I think it is CDJ400 for example can be connected to MC3000 and play from audio CD or USB.
CDJ400 can also be connected as MIDI device to the laptop for extra knobs and buttons (but you will have to map it by hand)

And welcome to the Denon fanclub 😉

Modern CDJs has cuepoint jumping and looping! My Denon S3700 has 3 hotstart/auto loops and 1 loop that is set a/b manualy as well as the normal cue. All can be set in memory. The new SC3900 has 4 hotcue and one manual loop.
CDJ2000/900 also has loops and hotcues that can be set in memory….

The big difference it that there is no Syncbutton so you have to beatmatch by ear using the pitchslider and pitch bend by using jogg or pitchbendbuttons (Pio does not have pitchbend buttons but Denon and other brands has that)
So if you want to be able to play on CDJs you could practice on any controller by uncheck the sync and snap in the software.
Also you have a much smaller display on CDJs that could be frustrating in the beginning…..

You must check that you have the latest updates for your Mixdeck and software
also DL and install the latest driver. (Delete current driver b4 installing the new one)
You will find all those here:
http://www.numark.com/product/mixdeck
Also be shore that you have the soundcard from the mixdeck shosen in your computer and not the internal soundcard!

The reloop is cheaper and has a joggwheel so yes it will work.
It also has a built in soundcard (do you need that?)
But the MC2000 is of superior quality.
If the price is more important than quality go for it….

2 analouge inputs means that you can connect any two analouge soundsources to it like for example ´two CD players.

Ducking on mic means that when you talk in the mic it automaticly lower the volume of the music and when you stop talking the music goes back to the volume it was b4. (this is selected on off by a button and is built in to MC3000 so it is not depending on softwarte)

I hope this clares out your questions, otherwise ask again.

From the manual of the MC6000:

“DA converter: 24 bit

USB audio output
4 Stereo (8 Monaural) 16 bit,48 kHz USB B”

For the timecode question:
Yes as the MC6000 works as any stand alone mixer you will have to get something like NI Audio 6 or 8 for the timecode to work.

And at last, The soundquality on the MC6000 is very very good!

Try it out in a store and compare with any other and you will hear for yourself!

It is not true that the MC6000 is really cramped.
Non of the people I know including me thinks that.
It might look that way to an eye but when using it you will not think that because the layout is really good!

IMO the MC6000 is the best you can get!

Well I will give it a go.
First off Headphones.
If you get new gear you will most proberbly get volume enough for your current headphones!
No need to buy new low budget reloop headphones if you already have a pair that works.
Save money and buy a decent pair of headphones later (Senhiser HD25/ Denon HP 1000/700 or Shure)

About Vestax VCI 400 I do not know about the volume but I am no fan of that controller at that price.
I would look at a Denon MC6000 and if you want more knobs add one or two Denon SC2000s or an NI X1.
For the same amount of money you will get higher quality IMO.
And MC6000 I use about 25-30% volume on headphone, 50% in traktor master volume and 40-50% on MC6000 mastervolume channel volume always on 100% (I use only x-fader for mixing) gain on 25-40%
(MC6000 has a real hardware mixer built in so it has its own master volume channel volume and gain
Master volume is separated from software and is not tagged to get better soundquality)

I know Apple has different graphicscards on their laptops so the one you refer as crappy might not be so crappy if you get a Macbook pro with the better graphicscard?. I have an old Macbook pro from 2008 that has no issues at all so I strongly recommend Mac! Because of the issues you wrote about with your PC.

Now I suppose you can not buy all this stuff at once so my recommendation is to first get a new controller.
Then you can still use your PC and headphones.

After that I would get a Mac if I were you.

At last you should get a pair of headphones that last for you whole DJ carrieer so you will never have to buy that again IMO. Then there is Senhiser HD25, Denon HP1000 or HP7000 and Shure HPs These three brands I am convinced has very high quality and lasts for a long time.

For the rest of your questions I am sorry that I can not be of help…..

IMO the best way to learn is to practice.
Practice more on your gear try to improve your mixes.
Try mixing without autosync….

And the absolute best way to learn IMHO is to play out for an ordience.

Try to not spend so much time on the internet, finding new music or other things but more time
on your gear……
One more tip is to carefully read your user manual of your gear and your software
there might be functions you do not know that you have…….

Sorry I can not help you much on this one but:

Try changing settings to scratchmode and restart program then set it to non scratchmode and reastart program again….

That is worth a try…..

Also see to it that you have the latest updates for your hardware and software….
