So then I ask, what’s a good starting price? I think I’m worth a million, but I’m sure I’m the only one who feels that way.
Well IMO if you do work for a venue, bar, or whatever, they get money from your performance.
There is ofcause different other ways to establish yourself.
You can do mixtapes and put on CDs or cheap USB sticks or send by mail……..
Also if you have a friend who is established you can ask to follow him/her to gigs and ask if you could play for an hour or so. If you do not have a friend you can go to the place/places you wish to have gigs on and speak to that DJ askim him those qs. (this way differs because at least the DJ that has the gigg does get paid)
¨
But if you play for free you take the jobs/sallarys away from established DJs and they get out of jobbs in a sutuation they can not compete and that is sallarydumping, something I and all the DJ’s I know does not like (to put it in a nice way)
bare in mind that some DJ’s does it as a main occupation. It is like any other job, if someone comes to your job or your mother/fathers and say hey I can do that job free for a month or so………….IMO that is a very bad thing to do and all my DJ friends do think the same. If you do a job you should get paid period!
A good starting price is the same price that they pay the DJ that plays there now or a price arround what everyone else takes. (Do not dump the price or you will be very impoppular amongst other DJs and I think it is a good thing to be friend to other DJs.)
And if you think that it is OK then you take that price if not you ask for more (Not zero)
You could ask for a million, but do not get dissapointed if you do not get the gigg;)Pär Hessler
ParticipantI had a look at NIs site and your Mac is not up to spec to be used with Traktor.
It states at least 2Gb Ram, so that is proberbly why you have issues.
Update your Ram, and it shold work as supposed to…..http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-pro-2/?page=2050

ParticipantYou will need to buy a new computer or get hold of an older Traktor 1.
http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-pro-2/?page=2050I suggest that you look for a used Macbook/Macbook Pro with Intel Core Duo and at least 2Gb ram.
It should not be so expensive……Pär Hessler
ParticipantIf you have a gig for someone else then your best friend you should be paid from day1 IMO.
I can not believe that someone would work for free…..

Pioneer do not supply SW with the Nexus but have certified the mixer with Traktor Scratch. After a battle with Native Instruments, they have activated the SW so I am able to use it. However, I am experiencing problems with it reading the timecode CD’s. It does play them for a couple of tracks but then I lose control from the CD’s and have to use Traktor as a stand alone. Not ideal when playing live!! I think it could be my macbook is not powerful enough as it is a few years old with only 1G ram running OS X 10.6.8 with a Intel 2 Dual core. I am waiting for another responce from NI.
I do also have a Macbook pro with Intel Dualcore and it works well with my Denon X1700/S3700 setup.
So for you it should work fine with your Mac as well. But I would suggest that you might try to get it some more Ram
I have 3Gb in mine….. If you get it some more Ram it will proberble be faster in everyday use and work better with your set up.
Wich CD players are you using with your Nexus?
And do NOT use SPDIF digital cable between CD and Nexus! That causes problems with timecode, use regular analouge cables and line from CD to mixer.
Be sure to not have mastertempo activated on your CD players that also causes problems with timecode.
At last, do you get 100% sync when playing track 1 on timecode CDs before playing any tune?
I hope this can help you.//DJ Hessler

ParticipantIf you did’nt have Traktor already installed with the SW that comes with your Nexus.
Do you not have that CD/DVD still ibn your possision? If so.
Uninstall all versions on your HD, Install the nexus version and upgrade with your upgrade version.
Problem solved, or am I missing something??//DJ Hessler

ParticipantIf it works OK, don’t!
If you can manage withoutit and think it is worth the risk, try it.
I would suggest you to bring it in on service, but I do think it will cost more than to buy a new one
so I don’t suggest that.If you take it appart:
When you pull it appart, be carefull tol lay the screws in the order you pull them out
so that you know what is the next screw when you put it together again….
And be very careful, be sure to pull out the plug and when put together be careful when you put in the plug!//DJ Hessler

ParticipantJust a few clarifications.
I think and hope that the MC3000 has balanced phono out and not unbalanced.
If I am right, then all you need is an converter Phono to XLR that does not cost much.
http://www.majadu.co.uk/xlr-male-to-635mm-mono-jack-plug-adapter-converter-109-p.asp
And then you have XLR balanced out…….
(I do on the other hand agree that it is a pitty that Denon does not have XLR out as they always uses to)C & D are Deck C/D or Sampledeck depending on what you have chosen in your software.
Traktor 2 pro can have 4deck then C+D is decks, 1 sample deck Then C or D is sample deck and the oune that is over is a regular 3rd deck. Or 2 sampledecks then C+D are sampledecks. I do not know if it is the same on T2 and LE but T2P and T2SP has this funktion. So if you chose to have A+B as regular decks and C+D as sample decks all you do is push button for C or D and then the 4 cue buttons will be for sample decks I suppose. And if not you can always map them or you can have separate buttons
for sample decks if you map the four buttons that is fot the EFX for example….
Also if you want it all and still want Denon there is the MC6000 or SC2000.In the 18th os Nov next week Denon comes with the press release and I do think the full spec.
Then we will know for sure…..//DJ Hessler

ParticipantI am sorry that I can not give you more help than this:
It might be a good idea to check if the answer is on Seratos site and if not ask there.
They are proberbly more suited to answer your Q?http://serato.com/help/scratchlive

ParticipantI am sorry to say that only the Denon feels as good as Denon.
If you could considder dropping the UDG case I know Denon is anouncing the MC3000
next week. You should really take a close look at that IMO.//DJ Hessler

ParticipantArbite, post: 9417 wrote: I doubt this. Purely because when you plug a controller in (assuming it’s USB), the sound that the computer sends it is digital. As in 1’s and 0’s. The controller then converts this into an analogue signal. Noise/humming is not an issue with digital signals.
Yes true, but the computer and the controller need to work together in sync and the computer sometimes sends additional 1 and 0s or does not send all of the 1 and 0s. Also it does it too slow or too fast.
In my case I got heavy static as soon as the computer had to read from the Harddrive and I insure you it is interely true.

ParticipantI would do a mix of some smooth jazz, some soul and early R&B like Motown and some lounge, that would do the trick I think.
