You need to turn of all things running in background and taking RAM.
Such as virus programs, auto update programs for different progs and so on.
Turn everything not needed off and I do think you will be fine.

Also be sure to have the latest updats for your S2 and Traktor installed.

Some input about the SCS 4 DJ

The SCS 4 DJ had some issues with it taking a very looong time to import music and so on but
there was an software update reasently that fixed all that so after the update it is a great unit.
It is also MIDI so if you wich you can use it with your laptop and software (wich IMO takes away all its advantages)
I have also heard from people that it is a great unit now after the update!
The Mixdeck I have not tested or read about but I am sure it is a good one to.
It is hard to give you advice because they are very different units…..

Mixtrak Pro is a MIDI Ddevice. Any MIDI device can be mapped in a MIDI program.
Ableton Live can be MIDI mapped so Yes! Mixtrak Pro can be mapped for Ableton live.
And if you do not find any mappings to download you will have to map it yourself.

    My humble suggestion:

As you already has decided to go for Ableton and Dell
(Is there no second hand market for Mac in your country?);-)

I think that Ableton is a good program because you can use it to DJ with but also it is good for making mashups, remixes, mixtapes and music production if you decide to do any of them later on! It can be that for abeginner it can take some time to learn, but if you later decide to swap to for example Traktor you can still have good use of Ableton IMO.

The thing is you now have a computer and a software.
The next thing to BUY! is music, if yoou have CDs you can rip them and then go online and buy music.
And buy a pair of headphones if you do not have that. And for heavens sake get an external harddrive for back up
and back up all your music all the time! That goes for PC and Mac always do backup!!!

After that you can start learning your program by reading the Ableton manual from side to side and
check the toturials that is on Abletons site. You can use the keyboard to start with to DJ.

After that you need something to play from and to start with if you are on a low budget would be the
Numark Mixtrak Pro DJ controller for example. It has built in soundcard and headphone out and I think a LE software of Traktor so you can try that SW if you want.

Then you are good to go, but do not rush it, it will take some time…..

    Good luck!

    Macbook Pro Late 2006 Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo 2,33Ghz 3Gb Ram 15,4″ 500Gb HD 2xBatteries

I bought it early 2009 used from a porfessional photographer who has had it in field so it had had its turns in the ground
But I checked it carefully and all worked well. It costed me about 1000Eur/1300USD it was way below half the price of a new one 🙂

Favorite thing, It always works and do what it scould do, it is fast and build quality is excellent.
I have dropped it two times and it still works and the design is excellent!

Cons was when I used it with Cubase or other heavy music programs I found the screen to be a bit small.
But I bought a used Mac Pro 8 core and 2×24″ samsung screens so that is not a problem anymore:-)

You keep jumping on me and states that I have lack of knowlage and now that I hated CDJs!
Those statments is obviosly lies and I can not find any reason to put them besides to make me look bad and feel bad in this forum just because you do not agree on some points I have stated.
I can not find why this should contribute to this forum or how it makes discussion comming in a constructive good way
so could you please stop jumping on me and try to be a bit more mature? In that way we could contribute to this forum and have a nice conversation instead.

About my age. I am 47yo and have no truble with age when I play my music.
Music and DJing has nothing to do with age, wait untill you are older and you will proberbly agree….
Also most of the top100 DJs are 30+ as I know it….

I was one of the first in sweden to convert to CD from vinyl.
I bought one of the first Denon DN D2000F that was shiped here.
The same goes for contollers, early 2000 I had my first controller from a Finish company called SLS.
That controller had its own software and hardware but did not work so I had to return it after trying 3 different laptops.
After that I had looked at controllers many times but find them all being rubbish IMO until the Denon MC6000 wich is a solid pice of hardware, so I now got one. I bought it because all places I play at does not have the space for my other setup.
But I now only use it as a toy at home and can not find any reason to sell my other set up as I find it more fun to DJ with.
I also has placed an order on 2xDenon SC3900 that has not yet been released or agnolisced by Denon.
So I do think that I am rather open to new things and rather fast to try them.
But if I am to change it must be to something better and I do not find ány controller/software that is better than my S3700/X1700 setup as for now. If I look at cons/pros in all equipment money can buy I find the S3700/x1700 to be the winner for me. That is mostly because of the spinning platter, all the functions and the quality.

At least traktor the software is fully operational on its own. I’m leaning towards traktor on moral grounds because it just kind of pisses me off that you can’t really try Serato before you buy unless you know someone using it and can use theirs.

@VinnyBlanc yeah i had heard you lost the resolution of the jogs, the search strip becomes a filter and the effects are crippled because there just isn’t enough corresponding hardware buttons like on the S4. I’d deifnitely be going with the S4 if I went with Traktor.

hmmm i guess this almost belongs in the software section for some Serato vs Traktor comparisons….I think I’ll probably end up with traktor just because it seems to be able to do more and though i won’t need most of it for a good while it’ll be handy down the track. If it was a matter of purely hardware i think i’d definitely go the NS6 but the S4 is winning the software front since i can actually play with it and it’s so tightly integrated with Traktor.

If you considder the S4 you might also first want to check the Denon MC6000 or MC3000.
They are a bit better in quality than S4 IMO.
Also a bit cheaper but that eats up because you have to buy the Traktor or VDJ software because only LE versions is bundled.
S4 is a very good controller but IMO Denon is a bit better so try before buy 🙂

Well this clearly indicates that your CPU can not handle all things you tell it to.
You need to set up your PC correct to be able to use it with Traktor.
There is plenty of topics showing how to do that for example:
    http://www.digitaldjtips.com/forum/threads/preparing-laptop-for-djing.734/

Also I suggest you get a bigger HDD and drop the external HDD ASAP.
Are you sure that it is an USB2.0 HDD and that it is in a USB2.0 port on your PC??

    Bonus tip:
Be sure that you have the latest software upgrade installed in your MC6000/Traktor and OS.

The NS6 is a very very good unit when used with ITCH!
IMO the best hardware for Itch that money can buy.

The NS6 is on the other hand not so good with Traktor IMO because the layout is for ITCH
and the layout is not good for Traktor as on other controllers.
You also pay for the ITCH software when buying NS6 wich is a waist if you do not use it!

I suggest you deside what software to use before buying anything!
If you are good with ITCH then the NS6 is a very good choice IMO
If you want Traktor there is Denon MC6000/3000 and Native Instruments S4/S2
That is all good units IMO

I would think twice before buying a used controller dispite what brand it is.
You should check with Native Instruments if you still can upload future upgrades for the S4.
And check that every single buttón and fader works as it should before paying!

If those two things is OK I can not find anything speaking against buying the unit.
Except if you want better quality that comes with Denon IMO

Many controlers has built in soundcard why it might not be a good thing to get the Traktor Audio Interface 6
before you know what controller to get….

With controllers and autosync you are able to do SO much more with a controller than just playing your tracks out and scratching here and there. Personally coming from CDJs i still like the Jog wheels but thats my personal preference, but now have made use of them to control effects.

the statement you make of “No fun left in DJ’ing, pushing autosync and no jogs”, just shows the lack of knowledge on what you can do on a controller. Looping, Cue Point juggling, Beat jumping, effects, Live remixing are just a few of the added benifits of using a controller vs a traditional system.

But each to their own. I dont knock your shit so dont knock mine is my mentality.

FYI I own a MC6000, wich last I looked was a controller? I also has done some shows/demos with it so I do know what I can do and not do with a controller. I still find it to be more fun DJing with my other set 2xS3700 & X1700.
That is my opinion for now and I also find it fun playing around with the MC6000, but for me it is a toy!
If you additional to that take away the joggs I would find it very dull and like taking away an arm for me as a DJ.

All the things you stated Looping, Cue point juggling, Beat jumping, efx, live remixing + more I can do very well with
my S3700/X1700 (CD and USB) as well! I can also do tracklists and all that with USB!

I do think it is you who lacks the knowlage here, there is not much you can do with controllers that I can not do with my CDJ setup really! I have all the knowlage you can get of all the products I own, I have carefully read the manuals of all my gear and Traktor manual and the Traktor Bible. So you should not jump into conclutions and say that I lack knowlage
that is not a nice way to get your voice heard IMO. I have been a DJ since 1980 so I do think I have a whole lot of knowlage. I also have a very big interest of the technical side of DJ’ing and has a basic knowlage of most gear out there.
I also raed many sites dayly to get the knowlage about what people has for issuyes with their gear and so on.
Also I have an education in electrical low voltage!

The first thing to do with your Denon gear is to go to the Denon site of your country and check/get the latest software update. Even if it is bought today it might be shiped earlier than the latest software.
Also be sure to have the latest software update for your DJ software…..
There is also updated .TSI (mapping) files on Denon site that might be a good idea to grab.
Also if you need help take a look at Denondjforums.com

I have a hard time understanding how anyone could DJ without joggwheels.
I would never even considder that. Please explain? How do you scratch with that stripthing?
I am proberbly too old for this game and should sell my stuff and do something else?
Nowdays there is no fun left in DJ’ing, pushing autosync and no joggs, bah!
