MemberIt’s an MJ song for me, either thriller, wanna be startin somethin, billie jean or something with a big build up to go from the dead silence back up. However, if it’s something like the crossfader situation I will just do it again – make it sound like an effect, like you meant to do it – turn on the ‘gater’. 😉

MemberOverall I liked it – I thought there were enough tracks in there for someone that was into the EDM scene to recognize and connect with and for the average person too. Agreed with the intro vocals critique especially the “the future” part – it took a little longer than I would personally have done but still nothing a regular listener would latch on too – or if they did it would be by the time the next track started. Will say I really liked the transition from cold blank to d’azoo felt very organic and like said above the ending was awesome.

Member@elgieff agreed on the JBLs – way overpriced for the sound quality IMHO. never heard of Whaferdale, will have to give that a shot.
@Paul if you are thinking of buying this stuff keep in mind in the US, the powered speakers and powered sub alone would cost around $1500 – $2000 conservatively, which in the PI is somewhere around 80,000 pesos.

MemberOk, so you’re thinking the mobile dj route? Essentials – at least two mains (the two main ‘above ground’ speakers) and if it’s EDM you’re thinking about you will need at least one solid subwoofer separate from the mains, also a mixing board. Now it’s cheaper to get unpowered mains and subs – but you will then need to go amp shopping; and those are pricey beasts as well. My suggestion would be to start with a solid mixing board, two mains (probably about 400 watts each) – but you could get away with one if it’s loud enough and the space isn’t too big, and one sub – all self powered; this makes setting up easy and will be cheaper in the long run. For brands, stay away from Fender and Behringer – they are geared more towards singer/songwriter types and are EQ’d a little harsh for my taste – their price makes them appealing but resist! but I will say Mackie makes a great set of mains and some solid subs at a decent price – always try the used equipment route first. But I would say go into a music store with your basic set up and test some stuff out, they should let you try them as these are huge amounts of cash you will be dropping. When I rent out equipment mackies are usually what I get. Hope this was what you were looking for.

Memberduct tape – old habit – it’s a musicians best friend can fix almost anything. if not that – a working pen.

MemberI don’t use Serato so this is just a guess – but sometimes if I need to mix quietly I’ll send the ‘main’ ouput to the left and the ‘cue’ output to the right of my headphones. Obviously there are many different ways to work around this depending on your set up and like I said I don’t know what serato is normally set up to do.

I have about 800CD’s; and around 300 Vinyl Records (which are now in the Attic – all in their Individual Plastic Sleeves); I have been Buying MP3 Files for a while now; but because I can ‘Manipulate/Destroy’ them in my Software they just don’t ‘Feel’ the Same as Vinyl or CD’s; as with that Media you got what you got and that was it; apart from when Vinyl Records ‘Jump’ I actually Love to hear the ‘Scratchy Sounds’ 🙂Actually it’s kind of funny you mention that; in another post I mentioned I’m an audio snob when it comes to listening to music so I do have an old stanton str8-60 turntable at home – For some gigs I will bring it out with me and at the very end of the night I will let my last track on traktor echo out with a ton of reverb, turn on my turntable, put on a record and let the sounds be heard (the drop and the warm analogue sounds). I love it, love the romance of pulling the record out, laying it down, dropping the needle ever so gently and just letting it go.

MemberI was just about to say, check the gain – both on the recorder and the master, usually for gigs I keep it around -7.5 ; but when recording this makes it come up too quiet so i’ll set it to 0 for recordings, usually. make sure the recorders ‘meter’ is moving and is close to – not actually, but close to the red.

MemberI think that the sync button is misunderstood – If you have taken the time to properly beatgrid your tracks it can be a lifesaver, I never use it with tracks ive never beatgridded. I use it sometimes but when I do, it’s between two tracks that I personally have beatgridded. But usually I will beatmatch by ear it’s just kind of fun and sometimes you happen upon an interesting rhythm that wouldn’t have come up with perfectly synced beats. otherwise, it’s a tool to be used but can be readily ignored if you choose to.

MemberMost times, just like a big purchase, I usually sleep on my tracks for a day, re listen and see if there was something worthwhile or if I was just “in a mood”. Sometimes I’ll listen to a playlist and really listen – after the preview I think – can I remember anything from that track? Melody, interesting beat? If I can’t remember anything I take it off.

MemberNice! – I like it, my only constructive criticism would be and this is just me: maybe not too much skrillex… I drop skrillex on my mixes too, but I notice to many of his songs and/or remixes and they start to sound alike. But otherwise good mix man! Here’s my filthy dub mix:
DJ GRE
MemberI play other remixes and mashups – some of girl talks stuff is just so great and goes so well with a crowd but I don’t ever play more than one at a time. – I play my own long mixes when it’s dead as in I’m playing to an empty room, or if I need a break.

Riding on that though.. the folks that peeve me the most are the “Umbrella Requester” you know, the ones that give you a general heading hoping that the Ms. Cleo in you can interpret the specific song they want to hear.
Hahaha, I know, this girl one time came up and was like, “do you have that song? it goes ‘Hey,Hey…” something” I was like WTF?
DJ GRE
MemberOk… so I would say that your mixes sound pretty good – no major errors in transitions (that I heard anyway). But the one thing I would say is change up the artists, especially if you’re doing a short 10 minute set it would be better to have something else other than lmfao to end the set – maybe bring back the beginning artist – What about Steve Aoki’s remix of pursuit of happyness? – especially for a short set you want to end with a BANG! I think that’s available for download for free – might be mistaken though. Anyway, that’s my opinion – but like I said good job on the mix.

MemberI own a 360 and a PS3. Been a huge Playstation fan boy though, went from SuperNES to ps, ps2, ps3 then I got a 360. I might be selling my systems though, they’re a big distraction and I need the money for more music.
