MemberWell… theres always bridges to get to another genre – you just have to look hard enough. But mixing directly is a different story, I would say anything with a fiddle is gonna be difficult! π

MemberI have traktor 2 and you can customize it – you can have all four decks or 3 and 1 sample deck it really depends on how you want to set it up… I was an LE user and upgraded just because it was only $70 to do so and I got a lot more functionality.

MemberI am sound obsessive as far as getting the sound in the club right… I don’t care what kind of shitty system I have to work with – there is a way to make it work. I played a gig at a buddys house using a spare guitar amp he had – don’t get me wrong, there was some crazy EQ work that had to be done but it’s always manageable. I constantly check the sound at any venue – my biggest peeve with DJs are when they have a monitor by their ears blasting and think that sound is exactly what the dancers are hearing… It’s not! and the red does NOT mean turbo!!!!

MemberAre you mapping to traktor pro? I could help you, or you can check the DJTT forums – they have a TON of midi programming masters on there and they usually have several different mappings for different controllers – my launchpad mapping is a variation of one i found on there.

MemberPersonally i would go with the S4 – it is an all in one unit but if you’re already using traktor the possibilities are just amazing…. I would love to get one and DJTT usually has some pretty good specials on the s4.

Memberblacklabelled.com is also a good acapella site; at least for me.

MemberCase in Point, some cover songs can still be more emotional than the original:
This song, originally by dolly parton, I feel is way more emotional and powerful as covered by the white stripes. Or All along the watchtower by Jimi Hendrix as compared to Bob Dylans version. It really is all in how you play, you need to be able to empart emotion into what you are doing. I feel like Ean Golden really puts his heart into his controllerism routines.

I can’t remember the exact words, but Skrillex put in in a Facebook status on his page. Of course, he did encourage his fans to support him by buying the music.
I believe his exact quote was something like, “If you don’t want to spend the $15 dollars on the EP you can just torrent it. Of course I still appreciate it when the albums are paid for.” – again that’s from memory though.

MemberON topic I think that it’s just the perils of being a female in a male dominated industry, people (men and even women sometimes) are going to go back to those primitive descriptions (female, young, digital, classic, handicap – whatever!) when someone new and different is going to pop in and possibly be amazing at something that they have been working on for a long time. When Orianthi came out everyone always made that distinction that she was female rather than just that she was an amazing guitar player.
I don’t know why but for me I am always excited by girl djs…. whenever I find one I’m excited to hear what they spin and how they spin. I guess just being surrounded by male djs all the time I like to listen to the subtleties and differences that a female perspective can offer. So for me when I say it – “ah a female dj!” It’s more excitement than anything.

MemberI would love to do this…. I’m trying to schedule a trip back to the Philippines and have a few friends that I know own bars, have radio shows…. and once I get the cash I am casting the net! π
DJ GRE
MemberI would like to enter a Frank Zappa quote: “All the good music has already been written by people with wigs and stuff.”

If you’re talking about the picture/videos I think that you are… those are all synths loads and loads of glorious moogs etc. I would love to just go nuts in there! π He customizes them to create analogue sounds from the ground up instead of using the default sounds programmed in them or programmed in software.

MemberBenny Mackney, post: 2932 wrote: It probably could do away with jogs+mixer, actually. As I said http://digitaldjtips.com/forum/threads/do-you-use-a-pad-controller.364/#post-2403]earlier in this thread[/URL], the XY pad and some cleverly configured pads can be used to emulate a set of faders. That’d be an easy enough mixer. All you need then is some pitchbend buttons and you’re set!
I know it would be less than optimal, but now that I’m on holidays (last day of semester was today) I have a bit of time to work on stupid stuff like this, so I’ll see what I can do with my pads. If not just for laughs, then to demonstrate the versatility of Traktor mappings and pad controllers.
Actually yes, the beauty of midi is that you can program it however you would like – the DJ TT staff and even a lot of the forum members there are like master gurus of midi mapping. Ean Golden was using two regular midifighters for a while as his regular gig setup. I use a launchpad and have programmed it to have control over the crossfader and control the volume faders on all four decks – so if you’re on a budget, programming a midi controller can really be a great option.

So… for live gigs, I usually have a beer, just one, to calm me down a bit. I don’t need my set up to be perfect and this is probably because I usually have to work around other DJs stuff or have no real DJ booth to speak of like a small bar table or a stool! I always bring my launchpad as my minimalist set up in case there’s no room for all my other gear.At home I will play a drum track and drink a cup of coffee and feel the groove. Even if I don’t feel like it I will mix for at least half an hour a day – for me regularity is better than long bursts of creativity followed by a long draught, but that’s just my personality.

MemberYeah just a heads up Led Zeppelin are like the beatles in terms of licensing their music and it will be a big deal when they will be available for streaming – I think it’s the same with Metallica. I do like Rdio though better than Rhapsody but Rhapsody is a pretty decent service. The DI radio app is great for EDM.
