yeah I gotta say it really depends on the crowd – I mean what your primetime set genre is going to be like is a good indication of where you should start too – I gotta say I play one hole in the wall bar pretty often (drinks are free, I get a little cash and the bartender is pretty hot) and it stays dead for a great chunk of the night so all I’m really playing is downtempo bob your head type stuff – but it’ll change depending on who I see walk through the door possibly indie hip hop, some old soul and funk, maybe even some jazz classics if the right crowd comes through.

The recent article about opening DJs does have a lot of good tips though for what your warm up set should be focused around.

Sorry… but did anyone else half expect this to turn into a porno? jk. I really wanna purchase a copy of this – I expect you’ll have some sort of review when you’ve read through it a bit?

Personally when I think of mash up I always think of Girl Talk – his mashups are amazing and I drop one or two of his tracks in a set and people love trying to catch all the little samples used. I think they have their place and are their own work of art when done properly.

I live in Anchorage AK which is very small (no matter what anyone says otherwise) and the scene we do have is severely splintered – rivaling DJs badmouthing each other, promoters scheduling 4 EDM events on the same night pulling the crowd in all different directions, a crowd that only goes out on the weekend – just a ton of different things that cause for a really disorganized scene. The big clubs DJs mix only either top 40 or hip hop. Theres nothing wrong with that and I can tell the DJs try to tease little beats of EDM into their sets but they are generally not well received – not bad tracks, just the crowd is not very appreciative of the tracks and they end up going back to the same tracks night after night.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it – I mean how many DJs have pre recorded mini sets for bathroom breaks etc? I for one like having a primetime/closing mix that I can throw on and go out into the crowd and just get silly for a little bit! 😉

Again… a lot of different factors but yes – It will be fine as long as you have a good quality cable.

Function

1 Chassis ground (cable shield)
2 Positive polarity terminal (hot)
3 Return terminal[dfp_ad_block_5] (cold)

Heres a basic diagram for XLR pins hope this helps! 🙂

it’s all about soul, post: 4913 wrote: Hello everybody recently i bough 2 Reference Monitors nEar 06 ESI amplifieds http://www.esi-audio.com/products/near05experience/

And

1 Subwoofer Monitor http://www.ikey-audio.com/m-10sv2

I will plug this 2.1 system in my mac (NOT mixer and external souncard), the subwoofer dont have XLR output, only XLR input, so is impossible send the sound from the subwoofer to the monitors through XLR cable, i will have to use the 1/4 Output Jacks to send the sound to TSR input monitors.

My Doubt is: makes big diferences on the sound’s quality use XLR instead 1/4 Jacks to send the sound from Subwoofers to the monitors ? for now i will only use this to listen music, but i will buy my new dj equipament, i will buy the Novation Twitch and djing with this monitors and sub pluged this way, only with 1/4 Jacks, not with XLR, the sound’s quality will be good ? or is much better with XLR ?? i dont understand very well this technical stuffs, i hope some guys can clarify this for me, thanks alot !!!

I think for home use the 1/4 should do just fine, in fact they aren’t that uncommon at some of the clubs I’ve played at; just make sure they are the right kind of 1/4 – NOT instrument cables. Heres a link to an article on the main site that will explain in further detail:

I saw this on the DJTT site and thought it was really cool… I’ve always loved mashup artists – Girl Talks Feed the Animals is one of my absolute favorite albums, so I’m always excited to see any artists that can achieve something similar.

Yeah… I kind of agree on both ends… Since he is a headliner I’m sure the fact that he was playing was a pretty big deal and for them just to request something from the is kind of selfish on their part – like D-jam said it’s like asking a band to change what they are playing mid set – like he said why couldn’t they just sit down and enjoy the music like everyone else?

I think maybe he went over the top but I think even he saw that and tried to smooth things over with the patrons. Obviously a ‘regular’ DJ wouldn’t be able to get away with this… I’m sure club owners would probably kick me out if I did this! 😀

Exactly Phil… I mean being a start up DJ you’ve gotta understand every gig is an opportunity and a lot of lounges, hole in the wall bars etc. won’t have a wonderful system designed to handle DJ music – you’ve just gotta do the best you can and enjoy it!

They do sound good, but for DJing you can find a better pair without the hefty brand price tag!

Yup, when you click on the drop down menu you have a choice of track deck, sample deck and live input. Mapping isn’t too bad and usually there’s a wealth of mappings to at least get you started.

Yes… they can be – I know that some DJTT forum members have some really interesting mappings for them. I don’t own an X-1 so I wouldnt know personally. I use a scs3 system,a launchpad and a midifighter – all midi programmable so I pretty much program them to my preferences.
