Daryl, let me know if you get the Power Mix III and what you think of it!
DJ BRUAEL
ParticipantNo worries Daryl, I too went with a cheap Behringer mixer but it had an awful hiss to it.
The power mix sounds clean and loud. My only complaint is the flimsy (well, average) AC adaptor, im trying to find a more sturdier one online.
I feel 100% confident playing in clubs with the Twitch now! Plus if you are using Serato DJ (as opposed to ITCH) the output is a bit louder anyway.

ParticipantNovation recommends the ART Power Mix 3. I have it and love it. Gives you plenty of gain and can get you to CDJ level of output.
You can hook up to 3 inouts and 2 heaphones into it and it even gives you pan control over each input if you want it.

Especially since the “new” bits are hardly ever world rocking innovations, but mostly cosmetic or gimmicky.
Greetinx,
C.Chuck, I know where you are coming from. It must have sucked to have bought the older controllers (2007-2009) when so many are out on the market now and are fundamentaly different in what they offer (ie sample players, performance pads, DJ FX and controllerism in general).
If we are reaching a plateau then i can see that defiantley being a good thing, however I guess a little part of me is thinking “have the companies decided that there is no more money in the DJ market and are moving onto other things?”
For example, right now I would not buy a Traktor Kontrol S2 or S4 cause you know that a new version is coming out immimently (unless you are taking atvantage of the price drop).

Was just wonderin what the hey is Epic Reverb and Epic Verb drop is, and why those mark as an “Epic” lolpsst I think “Epic” is a buzz word for “noticeable” or “not-so-subtle” 😉

What Traktor F/X have and can do: Traktor still has more “over the top” effects. So if you want to go totally crazy and make effects that are total mental, then Traktor still has the lead. What I like about the Serato F/X: The sound quality is top notch (no wonder they are from iZotope) and I would consider it even studio quality. The basic settings are very good and not totally mental, so you can work your way subtle into the mix.
They work really well in both modes (multi-FX mode or one F/X total control), the expanded F/X mode gives you A LOT of parameters to work with, which is good for some effects and the smaller multi-mode still has good settings. So a lot is prolly also taste, but as I like the more subtle and quality approach I love the Serato effects.
I like your simple yet concise summary FX differences between Traktor and Serato. Thanks Terry.

The only problem is all the products on amazon look a little shotty/unreliable after reading the few reviews if any that the different pages had. I’m looking for a US 120V AC to 12V 2A DC transformer, If any of you know a good site or company please let me know because the last thing I want is to have my mixer cable snap the day of the gig.
Just go to a music store, espeically ones that sell synths, electric pianos and keyboards. Tell them you are looking for a 12V, 2A Centre-Positive DC plug. I got a nice Yahama plug that cost me a pretty penny (about $40) but it had a long cord, was made out of good materials and felt nice and heavy. Good power plugs are hard to find but if you find one, buy it!

ParticipantMK2’s may be easy to find and pretty cheap now….just saying 😉

ParticipantNo worries Darryl, I do find it cool that Slip mode works with the hot cues, the slicer, loops and loop rolls along with “scratching” on the touch strips. Gives it a real fluid feel and can be used for some very cool effects. Although for someone who is a hot cue junkie like me, that means having to monitor if slip mode is on or not.
its also cool how they managed to map 3 fx’s per channel into the tiny Twitch! Granted, its probably its most glaring weakness as it takes some time to get used to and involves switching fx banks.
Oh, i forgot to mention the Sp-6 player. Its now accessible by hitting the HOT CUE button twice, and with the 8 pads per deck on the twitch, gives you a lot of control! Now if only you could control sample volume on the twitch!
Don’t forget to check for updated drivers on the novation wesbite as well!
Am looking forward to gigging with it this weekend!

Hey Darryl,
I have used the Twitch with Serato DJ 1.3 this past week. I have to say that generally i am very happy with the performance.
I was worried that Serato DJ would be CPU intensive like Traktor but its not. It runs just as smoothly as ITCH did. The mapping is pretty much the same, with the major differences being the layout of the FX section and the new manual looping mode (accessed by pressing loop roll twice).
The sound output is a LITTLE bit higher than it was with ITCH (one of the big complaints was the low volume output). However I use a ART Power Mix 3 amplifer so this offsets this. But I did notice a significant change with the TRIM levels. I can now raise the TRIM knob to about 1 or 2 o clock before it starts to redline, whereas before it would redline on 10 or 11 oclock in ITCH). In addition, i think the QUALITY of the sound is a little bit better with Serato DJ.
I like the layout of Serato DJ compared to ITCH. ITCH was good to use but honestly the interface did not look professional to me. I was almost embarrassed when people looked at it. Sertao DJ looks more professional and i like the layout options. You can make it look like ITCH or like Scratch Live, and have as many bells/whistles on screen as you want.
Lastly the new FX are really cool. Coming from Traktor last year I thought that ITCH had “ok” effects but not great. Now with single or multiple fx options and a boatload of new fx (in both the free Wolf -pack and $19USD Back-pack) it is really starting to feel like a complete package.
SLIP mode is also great, but now have to find a secondary controller to map it to (don’t like using the keyboard for it). What is cool is that HOT CUES also work in slip mode, i am not sure if even Traktor does this? It allows for some cool remix-controllerism stuff to happen out of the box with Serato DJ and the Twtich!
Overall, I really like Twitch with Serato DJ. You do have to get used to some of the new mappings (am looking to label the new options with tape), but it feels more fuller and professional than before. Add in Serato Video and you have a comprehensive package that is hard to find elsewhere.
I also think that Twitch with Serato DJ can finally lay to rest the fact that only TRAKTOR can be used with “controllerism” in mind. I love traktor for what it is, but for those that want the feel of a controllerist setup without the hassle of mapping and labelling that comes with it, your option is here!

Apparently the easiest way to tell Mk1 and Mk2 is that the Mk2 has a 1/8 mini headphone jack as well as the 1/4 connection. If you just have the one 1/4 headphone jack then it is the Mk1.

ParticipantDj Riziki, do you have the vci-300 mk1 or mk2? I know they made the mk2 to specifically address this issue.
DJ BRUAEL
ParticipantSo I finally used Serato DJ with the Twitch for the first time on Tuesday and I was really impressed!
Firtst of all the Wolfpack (FREE) and Backback ($19USD) effects packs are totally worth it. to me they feel more “professional” and the backpack effects in partcular seem almost “VST” to me ala to be used as a professional producer tool. Also the ability to have certain effects tagged as favoruites is a real classy touch to me, saves you from having to scroll through dozens of effects to find “filter”!
The new manual loop function included in the performance pads is also a nice touch, espeically handy if your tracks are not probably beat-gridded for whatever reason!
I also like the way they implemetned the new FX section into the Twitch, I don’t know how but they managed to implement 3 FX’s per channel into that tiny controller! They do include an overlay you can print off but I am thinking it may be better to get some black tape, label it with a white marker and paste it onto the controller itself!
I now want to use a secondary MIDI controller to map the following functions:
– slip mode
– sample player functions (play/pause, cue, sync and volume control per sample deck)
– serato video functions (would need something with a fader or knob for this)
– panel select (for switching between record, aux, fx, sp-6 and video tabs)I am thinking of using the Novation Launchpad, QuNeo or the Korg Nanopad2 for this. Although if I had an iPad I would use Serato Remote!
Lastly, I don’t know how they did this, but the audio output has improved, it sounds better as it did before on ITCH and I can pump up the trim knob more than halfway before it goes into the red! Before it used to redline at 10 o clock! This may be due to Serato DJ but also to the updated drivers I installed (ALWAYS check for new drivers/firmware for your controller, novation just came out with new drivers for the Twitch in April!).
I now feel like I have a professional product in my hands and am VERY excited for the future.
DJ BRUAEL
ParticipantHey its something at least.
I have heard that SERATO is introducing fully mappable controllers in the future.
So your options right now are to:
1.) Trigger slip mode on your controller (if it has one)
2.) Map a slip mode button to a secondary controller (remember that Serato DJ allows for midi-mapping of a secondary controller)
3.) Trigger Slip mode on your keyboard
4.) Wait for Serato to introduce midi-mapping on its main controllers and map your primary controller to have a slip mode button. -
