I don’t know why, but I never even thought about the idea of learning at something like dj school. I always learn from the experience either my own or people I meet or play with. How those dj schools work ? I cannot imagine it dunno why … : )

Yeah, I Guess Foam Cleaner is my choice too, I had lot of stuff staining and everything. Try many things, special foam been the best idea so far … It is really delicate literally no chance of destroying anything by mistake.

Really nice article, perfectly showing the flaws of industry …
Sometimes I’m glad that I do not take or have opportunities to work in those types of clubs.
I’d rather stay in my basement then make myself do what I’m not fond of musically.

It’s good that there are available some kind of protection cases for equpment … guess I’ll have too buy something like this in order to keep my nerves at ease …

Well times and times again I’m getting the feeling unfortunately that people don’t follow “common” sense anymore and don’t care that something costs money aka hard working.

Guess that’s what babies do … despite that I need to check some of her work, any suggestions ?

in reply to: Calling all female DJ's #43379

Well, that’s a dedication to DJ and take care of the baby at the same time, it is amazing. Also it looks funny as hell,
Hope the baby is having fun when mom is rocking the set.
What can I say to encourage Your wife, enter the realm of DJ’s … you won’t come out the same person in a very positive way !

in reply to: Whats the Smallest amount of people you have DJ-ed for ? #43378

I actually prefer making performances for smaller groups of people, the atmosphere is more intimate, I ussualy can play, create whatever I want, which is an important factor for me, I don’t know maybe I’m different. The smallest performance ?
couple of random people I didnt expect to come to listen.

It always bothers me when someone is coming and holding something containing even a minimal amount of liquid over my stuff. About people not thinking in this type of situations, yeah when they are partialy drunk … they deffinitely not think.
Someone drinking + bottle in hand + dj set = certainly not a great idea.
I need to check the: talk to the manager !, hope it works for beggars.

Oh, and as far I can remember, working with other people, mixing live with them, this is a great way of improving, it is so much fun and everytime someting new and unique may be created in colaborating with other musicians.

I believe there is no “good” overall way to start your way in this magical world. Some things work for me, the same may not work with you, my advice is maintain curiousity be aware of you goals, what you want to achieve. The basics – that’s what everyone will tell you … practice find your own style, if it makes you happy and hype, then you wont have problems. I will overcome every obsticle.

Generaly if I enter “practice mode” is listen to many different genre tracks, in order to keep up and develope my hearing siginificantly, often I go with modern classical composers, noise artists etc. Then I go with radomize pattern practice, blending different tunes, experimenting with sounds is also a part of my training, gives me the most fun overall.

in reply to: Gig flyers #43035

I always though actual real flyers were awesome, when I was young I used to collect flyers from all the gigs I’ve been to,
If you know a thing or two about design, composition etc. you can make flyers work, thats my opinion.

in reply to: The dj pushing buttons vs. producer/performer debate #43034

It is definitelty easier to get a wedding gig or something similar, and it is clear that you have some kind of bonding with people responsible for making the wedding “perfect” therefore you dont have all the space to experiment and play the thing you solerly want people to hear. But as it goes for skill: You can be a skillful DJ and try to make living and earn from weddings because thats how things roll, or you can be only “decent” and still make good impression. Impression is the keyword. I’m neglecting the skill it’s just sometimes the reality is … different

in reply to: The dj pushing buttons vs. producer/performer debate #42982

I actually long time ago stoped trying to distinguish all the differences especially in electronic music world. I dont know why but it seems the times we live in allow us to be a producer, traditional musician, writer and a DJ.
All in one, and I dont have any problems with this at all. I don’t mind creating music with laptop If it is something you enjoy then why not. Many artist these days for example go from analogue to laptops, later they comeback to find new ideas etc.
