  • Hey man, first of just don’t panic. Consider yourself lucky getting a nice gig.
Organise everything before, make some training sessions, pre made some stuff set lists and so on.
You have to chill and try to be positive, you know it is going to be fun, if your sets are good and you are confident it shouldn’t be any problems. Also if it’s possible have someone with you, good friend etc. so you will feel better.
Good Luck with the gig !

In my younger days I preferred going to “raves” as they were called back then.

Yup, raves were the thing, these days hard to find those in my region. Things change “clubs” aren’t exciting at all.
btw. great avatar DJ Elroy !

Well I still enjoy some over night hardcore rave, but it’s really occasionally, nothing special I do not have much time for those things any more. I’d rather make live music instead of goofing around at raves.

in reply to: Is this progress? Or bad mixing #44410

Definitely do not mix with your eyes, this does not mean not to look on the screen entirely !
But, someone said something bout vinyl turntables << awesome best way to learn thing or two I would recommend playing with those if you have opportunity.

in reply to: Music Library Tips?? #44232

If this helps I often use not standard ways of creating lists, maybe I’m making things pretty hard but im confident with gruping music by the mood and similar bpm, tempo. This may look weird but it work pretty well for me.

Grinreap sounds kinda awesome gotta say, pretty creative blend of words. I hope your music blends are as good as name ideas !

in reply to: Requesting the song you just played #44230

I can’t remember having those issues maybe because of the nature of performances I’ve been part of. People seem to be eager for new stuff, curiousity of what will come next. I would go with a polite response like: ” sorry maybe later …”
But I’m no good in ditching people. Playing the same song is boring as hell btw. Good luck with them people!

in reply to: What's your favorite music pool for DJs? #43987

Yeah, I mean I don’t have anything against iTunes, I think it is great for general audence, also as you have stated it is a very good tool if you want to research what have been people listening to so on and so forth.
It just doesnt cover all the stuff im in too. Nevertheless it is ok. For mainstream music and mixes it is definitely more then ok.

in reply to: Gesture based controls for DJing. Fad or here to stay? #43986

I’m really not used to those non-traditional means for controling things, I’ve always been to analogue knob twitching guy.
All those Haptic, gesture interfaces make me feel uncomfortable.
Allthough I think the future brings those solutions to the horizon so, I need to get used to it.

in reply to: Anyone actually do the Jesus pose? #43983

Dog damn, when I read the poses you guys make during DJing I feel like an ultra boring person…
Never done The “Jesus” Pose, never will I Guess I’m a shy performer nothing to stand out with.
Noding Head in my book is extreme uhh so boring.

in reply to: Still at the begging of djing #43982

Oh man, I wouldn’t go with dubstep either ! that is a no-no.
Go with something really easy, a build up strength upwards from that point. If you really are into dubstep tunes, find something using similar elements or add them on your own.
When you are very good with that easy rythm pace – move to higher level don’t skip too much.

in reply to: Mixing Rock?? #43821

As far as for indie rock goes there shouldn’t be much problem, many artist use electronica elements in their compositions, which I can only assume may help you, just do a research, ask friends for some nice tracks, it shouldn’t so problematic, as for some kind of classic rock, I’m not personally fond of never tried, maybe as a samples or something.

in reply to: What's your favorite music pool for DJs? #43776

I don’t know never been keen on iTunes, I just preferably find what I need on my own, don’t like to rely on mainstream sources because of my music preferences but that doesn’t mean I dislike iTunes.

in reply to: First gig in a club with a decent sound system. Any advice? #43775

Concratulations on gig, try not to think about it much like: ” omg it’s a big big ” etc. Think of it as a normal for you performance, stay true to your ideas, and like many other above me stated: have fun!.

Amazing idea ! A multipurpose sound proof / bullet proof glass rooms, innovative amazing ! haha
