ParticipantIve been using Macs for well over 15 years now, not just for audio (I am a graphic artist) and i can honestly say since OSX came along (OS9 was pretty bad) I would not touch anything else. I run a 6 year old Macbook Pro and apart from needing a bigger HD (getting the odd audio glitch where i have less than 20% drive space left) it has no issues running Serato on my Terminal Mix for me.
They may be more expensive than a PC, but sooooooo much friendlier. You will not regret it Jamie.

ParticipantYeh i am looking at a 7200rpm 1TB, that should sort it out.

Participant250gb? I only have a mere 160gb 🙁
I cleared out a bit lastnight and got 19/20gb free space. I think i still had one drop out? I say “think” because if it was, it was no way near as bad as previous ones. Think i need a bigger drive, what a ball ache that is!
Thanks again Terry

ParticipantCheers Terry, i have done all the obvious things like bluetooth/airport switched off etc.
No other Apps running and nothing else connected. I will check my hard disk out later, it HAS only got about 5% free space on the drive though! Could that be a factor?

ParticipantHigh Horses!
I am a graphic designer by trade, so are these people suggesting i ditch my Mac and go and buy a load of Sharpie’s and a scalpel? Ill go back to the dark ages then shall I.
I have a lot of respect for the Vinyl guys, thats where we all started (well, us old guys anyway). But one thing my trade has tought me is to embrace the good technology, it can be your friend and really open up new doors for you.
I love the looping facility on my controller, a lot of hip hop and funk does not have long intro’s so the loop allows you to blend the tracks nicely.
And assuming i am correct in my assumption here: If Itch is used is that not basically the same as having a controller….but with 12″ jog wheels?!?!
Hippo-crates 😉

ParticipantI use Reloop ADM5’s for my home mixing purposes. I have never used any other monitors so have no sound comparisons, however the reason i chose them was A: Price-£125 B: only one power chord required (speaker cable links them) C: The smaller size helps as they are not set up permanently, they are packed away after each session.
You have volume/bass/treble knobs on rear, and they are rated at 30watts which is plenty for home mixing purposes (not so sure about booth volume here though) the volume knob has not moved past 3/4 yet.
Obviously only being 5″ woofers they will not blow you away with bass, but they sound good enough to me.

ParticipantYo Roy, welcome.
Joined the DDJ Revolution eh? Me too and loving it

ParticipantSerato.
It seems to be what 99% of (digital) Hip Hop DJ’s use, so that is good enough for me. The fact that my TM2 is actually made in conjunction with/for Serato also was obviously a factor.

ParticipantWhy Pioneer?
I was the same only looking at the Pioneer range. The SR is expensive if you are not going to use most of the features! I opted for a German companies Serato controller (i wont mention the name as i keep getting moderated when i do…. somebody must think i work for them or something haha)
And i could not be happier with my purchase to be honest, loving it 🙂 Just got to learn how to use it now hahaha
