you call it a shit ton of work, but on my view, as the playlists arent automatically made and I manually select the tracks, I already know beforehand every single track on my traktor playlist to play. I dont trust itunes to give me the tracks to play, even if it is with parameters I set. I tag the key with KeyFinder in the Key section, place some extra hot cues for some specific transitions and im off to go.

Something I do is simply have all my music organized in folders in my PC by genre, artist and album (in that order) and when I got a gig coming, I just import the genre/artist/album i like to Traktor and thats it. Then i erase my whole traktor library to keep it clean and make track finding easier

    just my 5 cent

The same happnens to me and it KILLS ME. Im 19 and 6′ 7′ feet tall (198cm) and even when Im able to find a place to place my stuff at a proper height (hard), the backpain kills me and Im forced to sit for 2/3 mins when its unbereable. I go to the gym, do taekwondo and run everyday but it just keeps happening, I just accepted it as a burden for life (lol) and I just sit every 20/30 tracks for 2 or 3 mins. Not that it is that much.

EDIT: It seems it is just something that happens to tall people 🙁 know your feeling bro

the problem is renting one requires an investment, that will increase your price (hiring you would be more expensive) or else, you make less profit. buying one will enable you be payed more but less than if you rented it, and allows for profit.

I gotta remind you buying the PA is at least in my case 100% for economic reasons, not related to creativity or actual DJing but more of a business objective so that DJing can start paying off better without leaving me broke like its happenin now

My issue is however, I cant try any of the DJ equipment I buy as I ship it from the US ’cause in here (Argentina) maybe the same HDJ2000 instead of costing 240, they are sold at over 2500 pesos (which is like 500 dollars). And I can only get them second hand in here, which isnt worth it. Thats why I ask for so many opinions in here. As far as Ive read these Pioneer headphones are amazing and they would fit my style. I also looked for the Denon as I generally like their products but the durability is appearly too low 🙁
Thanks for everything Hee Won Jung 🙂 see ya round

woha, never thought of it like that, got your point and i guess you are right. so you say getting the headphones first is the most viable decision to at least dont look like a noob? isnt the turntable/cdjs set a better way to prevent prejudices? what headphones would you reccomend me that are resistant, sound good and arent ugly as hell (:P)?

I know how you feel. In my case, I wake up 5:30am to go to college (engineering) till 11:45am. Then I got a part time job from 12:30 pm to 6 pm and I also practice taekwondo nearly everyday from 7pm to 8pm.
I found a time to practice from around 9pm to 2am after dinner and shower. College homework I do during my free time at job or during breaks between classes.
I get nearly no sleep time, but you get used to it 🙁
I have no issue with nearly no sleep, not that I wouldnt like some more ! But there are others that just HATE to be sleepy and then they should find another time to practice.
Remember that even if you work as a DJ, it is a job that you are only good at if you enjoy it! And that includes practice times, research times (for tracks, updates in software and hardware, etc) Some days when I have heavy homework I cant mix and then I feel as if that day was somehow incomplete.
Just plan your times, organize your schedule and you will find at least half an hour to have some fun with music 🙂
I even sometimes load my iPod with the new tracks I downloaded and with a notebook and a pen in hand, I write down where I would like to place my cues while I travel (public transport) so then I just come home, place the cues I decided earlier and play with them.

Hope I was of any help 🙂

EDIT: I can remember a quote from a blog I read a long time ago that said ‘The more organized your schedule is, the more freedom you have to change it.’

in reply to: Case For Controller #31774

I own the mc3000 too and found a pretty good oddyssey case, at 350 dollars :S

If you have the money to buy a case as expensive as your controller, do it, it will work wonders and your equipment will last forever. (Not as if this will be the last controller you will buy in your life)

Following that line of thought, I just measured my controller, went to a carpentry and asked them to do a box made out of hard wood. I then bought an eva (i dunno if thats the name, by eva I mean that soft material that is used in the walls of recording studios and radios that can reduce hits), covered the inside of the box with it (remember to calculate the witdh of eva when asking for the box to be made) and you are all set. You can then paint it if you wish, or ask the carprentry to paint it (most do). You can even ask for a bigger wooden box with two compartiments to also place your laptop in.

Just be creative. I got a high quality custom made case for less than 70 bucks, when the oddyssey one costed 350 (and a bit more)

not good. well then, if im not mistaken, the cue buttons i should remap are the ‘hotcues’ right? from 1 to 8. the problem is there is no hotcup :S
i was thinking about also mapping the play/pause to each hotcue but then, if the track is playing, it would pause the track

I use the free version of Shazam and it works wonders, however, some tracks arent recognized.
The paid version of Shazam is any more precise? or that doesnt change between versions?

I have an MC 3000 and I also own the Traktor Audio 2 audio card. And I must say both sound practically the same. I didnt have any problem with it, but in the forums I read a similar problem and it was fixed downloading JACK audio interface from the internet. Its free so u may try and see how it works

Im in no way a sound engineer or an expert, but I think sound quality in volume depends on how the signal is amplified.
I mean: Virtual DJ, or any DJ software amplifies the sound digitally. Its as if you turn up the gain of a track. It sounds distorted, then you balance it with your master out to make it sound neat.
The longer the signal path is, the more devices you have to sync. But in my opinion, you should control your volume in a more analog way, in an amplifier, the mixer or the audio card, and leave the master out of your digital dj software at a level where it can be heard but it doesnt amplify the sound in a big amount.

I may stand correct or 100% wrong.
