Things you need to check:
Latency, take it as high as it can go the slowly decrease it. Listen for the best sound at the lowest latency setting you can get.
Cables and connections can work fine one day and be FUBAR tomorrow, even good quality cables Do you use a ground loop? If not unplug the mains from the laptop to see if the noise decreases or goes completely. If it does you’ ll need to get a ground loop, they’re cheap from any electrical store.

You’ll find that music with live musicians will have fluctuating BPMs an example would be the old Funk tunes as the drummer would be slightly off beat sometimes. Something the sync button won’t help you, you’ll need to ride the pitch fader and platter.
Traktor allows for manual adjustment of the beat grid but I don’t think VDj does. I don’t worry to much about fluctuation during the track; I concentrate on what I want to use as the intro and outro. If the part the drops to 90BPM is your outro a track with a 180BPM should mix.

Is it live or is it Ableton (who remembers the Memorex ad? lol) I always do live mixes I stream live, record and post them mistakes and all. Listening back makes me aware of things I may not have realised during the mix.

Acording to the specification, “rating” is noted with a numeric value from 1 to 255. Each application defines their behaviour for “rating” in ID3, depending on their design.
For example:
iTunes – does not treat it (rating star is managed only with his DB/XML)
Serato – does not treat it (column does not exist)
VirtualDJ – does not treat it (rating star is managed only with his XML)
Here’s a post from MediaMonkey http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=28380

You could look at Tag and Rename their support site says that they support:
mp3 – ID3v2.2, ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4 tags (ANSI, Unicode and UT8 encoded tags fully supported)

Mix the music right and it will always sound new and exclusive.

There are various Id3 tag versions, they are not comparable with each other. This is why you have the problem.

I sold a pair of 3000’s for £360. They’re decent multi format player. I still have the flightready coffin thay were in which I wouldn’t sell for less than £170. I can’t comment on the mixer.

in reply to: How do you deal with DJ nerves? #1012349

I’m always nervous when doing weddings and parties etc as I’m really out of my comfort zone when playing mainstream music. Then there always that feeling you’ve forgot to pack something even though everything is packed in boxes that you couldn’t have possibly missed. The very first gig I ever did I kept bouncing the needle when I put it on the record I was so nervous.
I did a wedding the other month where I turned up and was told “No lighting and here’s the CD’s the bride says you have to play” The light weren’t a problem, less for me to put up and pack away, but being given 6 CD’s without track listings was a nightmare. How I coped is story for another time though.
The thing with weddings and paries is that you don’t always know what the guest will be like or what their musical taste will be. You’ll have your Motown, Disco and Rock n Roll etc ready for the older generation and the Pop, RnB and Club tracks ready for the younger ones but you know they will all expect their request to be played on demand there and then no matter what genre you’re playing at the time. Once I start playing and I get the first group of people dancing I get a feeling for the crowd. I can tell which are the guest that will keep the floor going who the requesters are going to be (they’ve been giving you that look since you got behind the decks) then the nerves always seem to fade away, I get my mojo back. Before you can say Kajagoogoo it’s last orders and time for my signature last tune which is always Easy by the Commodores

Clubs and bars I think I’m more hyped than nervous as this is where I’m at home, I love it. So club DJ’s and wanna be club DJ’s believe me when I say mobile DJing ain’t easy

For it comes down to knowing your music. I don’t have a system for telling me exactly what tracks go together. I sort by Genre, Key (which is filtered by bpm) and then my own music thoughts. I have my main crates that contain genres as they were bought so if I download a Tech House track it goes in to the main Tech House folder. Then there are folder organsised by Key which will contain all genres within that Key. Then I have sub folders where I have my own file system based on how I think the music sounds I so one track could be duplicated in various sub folders.. For example my Deep house will also contain other genres and the same goes for the other sub folders for other genres meaning my Minimal could contain a Deep House track. It doesn’t mean that all of these will mix with any other track in the folder though. Creating folders is all about you’re preference and what will make it easy for you to look through and find what you’re looking for.

Remember you don’t have to bring tracks in on the beat you can use the breaks, another trick is using the EQ to your advantage to kill the bass and may be bring the track in on the high hat or kill them both and just have the vocal riding over the other track. You can use long transistions and blends with the EQ or quick drops on the beat with the odd spin back. There are some many ways to mix awkward tracks together. Having said that some tracks just won’t mix and that bring you back to what I said at the begining “it comes down to knowing your music.” Also, preperation before a set can help but you can never prepare for the crowd that you just have to pick up on when you’re playing.
Hope this helps

15″ mids and 18″ subs for me I wouldn’t dream of using 10″ speakers for anything other a very small party where loud bassey music wasn’t required.

Don’t know if you’ve seen this:

There’s 2 video from him check them both
