ParticipantI wouldn’t class a track that is from 12months in the past as a “Classic” some tracks from 10yrs ago I wouldn’t class as “Classic”. To me a a classic track is one that can be played and still get the crowd going as if it was a fresh track, a track that can cross the generations of club goers.
How do distinguish between auto sync and real beat matching, a sample scratch vs actual scratching.Feed back of any type is always good but the best feed back will always be the crowd dancing or not as the case may be.

ParticipantMy old Mac got passed to the wife for her web browsing/shopping. Now for the price of a new replacement Mac I have 2 win7 laptops, one strictly for DJing configured at install purely for one job. The second laptop is my work horse for the web. Having used both there is honestly no difference, build quality only comes in to play if you buy a budget machine. IMHO Mac’s are way over priced but if money is no object and you like white with a glowing symbol go for it. if you want to keep a good amount of cash in your pocket for some other stuff like a new controller go for a decent win7 laptop. Certainly look for 4Gb or better still 8Gb RAM

ParticipantI use multi format CDJ’s so providing they don’t suddenly blow I’m good to use CD’s, USB drive or a LAN/ Midi connected Laptop

ParticipantI’m not sure what happend on Sunday, I was playing away when I noticed the clocked had stopped but I was still in the room when I refreshed I was locked out. I Tried to log back in to Mixify and couldn’t log on as the site would not load.

ParticipantBoth Traktor and Serato are controlled by either Midi or Timcode so any controller can be mapped to either. One big difference is you can use any soundcard with Traktor whereas with Serato it has to be either a Rane soundcard, a Rane mixer or a controller with a built in certified soundcard like the Pioneer DJ SX or the programe won’t work. I used Traktor in the past but not Serato so can’t comment on it’s functions. The Z2 and F1 certainly look intersting, particulaly if you’re in to remixing on the fly with the sample deck function. However, another option would be to use something like the APC20 or 40 with Ableton along side your current set up.
If you are looking to replace your current set up you’d have no problem get a price that would allow you purchase a controller and software packageDeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantMy first gig £80 paid a night for two of us and our equipment 7 days a week which back in the 80s wasn’t bad. Thinking about it with inflation etc I probably get less now in real terms for some of my gigs

ParticipantWhat CDJ/DJM have you got as I’d probably stick with that and possibly go with the F1. Then I’d use 2 chns for the CDJs and 2chns for Traktor Decks & Remix decks

ParticipantI’m using CDJs, no DVS as for the the pan I didn’t do any so it may be done to the levelling of the recording in audacity

ParticipantMy very first deck was made from a radiogram. We’d take the record player out and box it up. 1 deck DJing was about quick changing without a spindle, an art in itself. Custom built pre-amp and custom built Valve slave amp. Home made twin 18″s. I don’t miss carrying that stuff up a flight of stairs.

ParticipantI no longer use Traktor or any DVS but when I did use Traktor I stayed away from the keylock.
I tend to keep my BPM within 5 Beats of eachother bringing both BPMs toward eacthother and once the change over is done I can easily bring the new track back to it’s correct BPM.ready If I play Soulful/Deep House they tend to be between 123>127 so I’d bring the transition in at 125. That doesn’t mean I can’t drop in a 100bpm nor does it mean I always stick to Harmonic mixing in a set
Here’s a test you can do to see the difference BPM changes do to the Key, Record a 125bpm Track at 130bpm then analyse it to see what the key chage is
You need to remember that even tracks with the same key, bpm or both don’t always mix together. Harmonic mixing is just another tool but an interesting way of creating mixes. I’d read the articles on Harmonic mixing to get tips on things like jumping to a higher keysDeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantAfter leaving DJing for family/work life and then getting back in to it I started off with a Vestax VCI 100 and Traktor. I then upgrade the firmware with DJTT speacial which made it one of the best bits of kit I ever used. However, I wanted a multi format platform to cover myself should the software or laptop have a glitch so I got a pair of Radius 3000 a DDM4000 (both midi) and today I’m using CDJ900’s with a DJM700, a RMX1000 and RekordBox.

ParticipantI don’t think there is as differant programmes use various ways of storing the information; Traktors stores it as nml/xml and Serato stores it in the mp3 tag. I was going to suggest trying RekordBox IOS app but I can’t find how it store it’s information, still it might be worth a shot as it’s free but I doubt it will work.
