ParticipantSteelo the question was in relation to a “DJ Laptop” not a general machine hence my answer. For a Digital DJ the centre of everything is laptop so it’s worth the investment to have one solely for the purpose of music? Considering that some of the software is often more than a decent laptop it’s one of the cheaper parts of a set up. Unless of course they’re the kind of DJ that get their software and music from illegal downloads.

I am seeking a subscription pool. I like to play mainly top 40 music with a slant towards urban – rap, r&b, dancehall, as well I’m interested in a pool which offers cool remixes.
I belong to one pool already but find that its focus is too narrow, it deals with mainly urban music. Yet it does not feature one of my favourite songs of the past year – Rum and Redbull. I had heard a lot of great things about zipdj but was dismayed to find that they also do not offer this song.
Please let me know if you belong to a pool that has a flat monthly charge and carries the song Rum and Redbull as well as top 40 music and good remixes.
Thanks!
For Dancehall and some RnB Try Reggaetopsite

Yes, but most masters have had a mentor and mentor should be able to answer question. I don’t mind questions even the most basic. I’ know a lot of experienced DJ’s who have no idea how to set a system up because they have no interest in anything other than mixing. For me some one can never ask too many questions, they can ask the wrong questions.

I just think the cleaner my computer the less chance of audio drop outs and crashes when playing live. Also. Does anyone know if having anti virus software on your DJ laptop is a bad idea?
Why would you need anti virus software on a DJ laptop. My DJ laptop is solely used for music. A dell studio 15 with everything I don’t need either uninstalled or disabled. I download everything via a second laptop then export on to an external drive.

ParticipantA cheaper more comprehensive package is Beatunes. Think of it as ITunes for DJ’s. I loved the free trial so much I bought it 35 USD is a bargain. It does more than just find the key

ParticipantAudacity free and easy? Check YouTube for the how to
DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantIt depends on your music collection, I’ve tried the trial and for my collection it was a waste. Have a look at Beatunes, it’s GUI looks like ITunes you can try before you buy to. Not will it help sort your tags it find the key and highlights duplicates. You can make playlist and it have a function like genie which will create auto playlist based on criteria specified by you. So for example you could want 100 Tech house tracks between 125 and 128bpm in key A to D. If you have a large s collection the initial analysis can take a long time but it’s worth. You’ll need an Internet connection for it to check online databases it will show what it thinks the results should and won’t make changes without authorisation.
I have a collection of over 100,000 tracks which took about 2 months to run through. It didn’t 100% but I don’t think and programme can be but for what it cost it’s worth it IMO.August 24, 2012 at 1:12 pm in reply to: big decision cdj 850 + turntable or dual turntables + scratch live home setup for skill practice #1010183DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantThe 850 has a USB input which allows you to plug a drive directly in to so no need to burn CD’s. However, there are other CDJ’s that are just as good and give you more for your money. When I got back in to DJing I started of with a VCI-100 the got a pair of SLDZ1200, then a pair of Radius 3000’s now I’m using CDJ 900’s. For the price you’re paying for the 850 you could possilby get a pair of Radius 3000’s and the $220 turntable.

Participantlj I think we’re on the same vibe music wise. I’d be up for our own DJ night but we’re a bit scattered so might be a problem getting a few of us together. I’m about to start promoting myself more to look at getting back in to the clubs. I did a kids party at a club here and they do a Tech House night once a month but are having a refit. That’ll be my first call at trying to get a play out. The mobile gigs pay but if ‘m honest my heart ain’t in it. Let me play House o/
I don’t know if you’ve ever checked it out but http://www.acthook.com/ has a wanted listing for Cardiff which might still be on goingDeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantIf you want to get a following via Facebook post your mixes if people like the music they will ask you for the playlist or titiles of certain tracks.
Everytime I turn my set on I hit record even if I’m not actual planing on doing a full mix. I do a video stream on Blogtv which I post links to on my FB and I also audio stream on Mixify again I post links on Fb. Admitedly I haven’t posted a playlist. I still haven’t got around to uploading anything to Soundcloud but will very soon and these mixes will have a playlist@Steelo – why don’t you see posting a playlist as a good idea. If you were to put out a mix CD to promoters you would need to included a playlist so why not post it on line with your mix

Participantlj like you I’ve had a break due to commitments but once a DJ always a DJ. So I bought myself a controller a few years back then started to get asked to play parties so bought a small PA and it grew from there. I’m now back to CDJ’s and taking payed bookings as a mobile DJ but really that’s just pays for upgrades and music. I’d love to get back in a club booth, there’s nothing like making the dance floor bounce.
What kind of music do you play?DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantI’m from Nottingham but live in Sheffield now. I’d do weddings, birthdays, etc with my small mobile set up but my passion is for Deep, Soulful and Tech House

I see a booth full of controllers. What do you see???
CDJ2000 = controller
DJM900 nexus = controller
Possible APC 20 or 40 = controller -
