ParticipantOne of the best controllers I used was the Vestax VCI 100, build quality is solid and with support from DJ Tech Tools it is an awesome bit of kit. They can be picked up from Ebay for about £150 to £200 and DJTT do a custom firmware up which is beyond belief. Worth a look at IMO. They hold their used value to so if you do pick a used one when you sell it you’ll probably get your money back.

ParticipantIf a track I like fits in my set I’ll play it I tend to play Deep, Soulful and Tech House but I’ll drop a Dub step or Dancehall or anything that will spice it up and keep the floor moving. I bought tracks that were labelled as Tech House but to me sounded more like Dub Step or Soulful house that was more like Tech House. A lot of tracks will have mixes crossing over several genres. So I don’t really get hung up on genres I use long transitions and/or short samples and loops to make my own sound. The best DJ’s apprieciate all musical genres and will take what the need to make what they want.

So hopefully this wil get my latancy down to a minimum for some reason its gone up to 6 recently :s. Still low enough i suppose.
Wishing i had a mac to save me all this effort. How low would you say you need your latency for controllerist routines?
6 isn’t too bad 5 or 4 is obviously better but if you’re got good sound and responsive control then 6 should be fine.
If you haven’t already looked try DJ Tech Tools for tips on Traktor on controlism. Ean Golden is one of the best if not the best controlist going. You can also get free sample for Traktor from thereDeeJay SiBoogie

Right now I’m on ERG Nu Music Traxx, but I’d like some more remixes. I’m getting a lot of radio edits. I love the videos I get from Promo Only. What’s their audio like? How does it compare to DJ City?
I guess I’m trying to decide whether to sign on with DJ City for audio, or upgrade to POOL Platinum.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
Here a review I cam across

Meanwhile back in the real world…. im a 21 year old who is currently having to get by on the dole and has debt problems. Id say its better to have some decent anti virus and continue DJing on my laptop than browsing unprotected and catching a virus leaving my laptop completely useless.
Oh to be 21 again!
OK, so in your real world you will need to learn how to disable programs and devices on your laptop when your going to use it for DJing. Either that or risk spike and latency issues. YouTube will give you all the instructions step by step.
I use a DELL Studio 15 all unwanted programes or software was either uninstalled or disabled, unwanted hardware was disabled. This was for when I used Traktor but I dumped it on the last upgrade and now use RekordBox either directly connected or via playlist copied to a thumb drive.DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantI went with the cheaper Beatunes which is similar to MixedInKey but also has a gain tool. TBH though if the file is low quality to start with it will always be low quality. I have a massive collection of music and anything below 256kbps is strictly for home use. However, the music you use will only ever be as good as the systems it plays out of, cheap soundcard, mixers, amps and speakers can make high quality music sound flat and lifeless.
It much better to start of with a good file so if you’re ripping from CD rip at the highest possible bit rate or use a music pool that offer high quality Mp3s or WAVs. Torrents are a definet no no for quality and the amount of “DJ’s(?)” that get music for them is shameful at 96kbps or 128kbps your reputation as a DJ who plays good sounding music is at risk. My moto is “If it’s worth playing it’s worth paying”
If you don’t have have to many poor quality files you could look at Sound Forge or Audacity to clean up the sound and increase the gain. It would mean working on each file individually but ti doesn’t touch the original file as you can save the reworked file as a new one. I use Audacity for my recording and as you looking for a tool to create Mashups Audacity is free

Yes, if you re-scan your itunes collection it will update the tag information with the BPM and any other information you’ve entered. Just reload the music from your hard drive, anytime you update the tag information out side of itunes, say with Traktor,MixedinKey, Beatunes etc that’s all you need to do.

ParticipantI’ve just started using Zipdj and I can say I’m very pleased. The cost is reasonable for access to unlimited downloads. You can register and get a 7 day preview before commiting to a subscription, this allows you to browse the catalogue and listen to the tracks but not download. One thing I don’t like is that once you’ve subscribe you can only preview a part of the track which can be irriating as I sometimes want to hear the break or chorus. As it’s subscription to unlimited downloads there no point in members recording a track so I don’t see why they don’t allow the members to play the full track.

ParticipantYouve not said what software you’re usin but if it VDJ then you could use a USB sound card that has 2 ports one for the main out to your amp and one for you headphones to allow cueing between the 2 decks? They start at a couple of £s upwards. However, if you going to DJ I’d buy a proper DJ soundcard. If you can afford to invest in music why skimp on the equipment?

ParticipantThere’s no re-analyse option but you can re-scan your music, this should update the tag information in ITunes.
DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantAfter analysing the tunes in Traktor did you go back in to iTunes and update the tag information? I’m not home ATM but I’ll double check the info when I get there.

ParticipantI think that relates to copyrighted material. I could be wrong. I know when I uploaded a mix I got an email within a few minutes telling me I had used copyrighted music, the mix is still up though.
