ParticipantOne thing about Traktor is that you need to use the beatgrid to get the most out of it. DnB is notoriously bad for having the wrong BPM. You’ll have two tracks that are the same BPM but one will read 170 BPM and the other will be 85 BPM. The min/max tempo setting are for Traktor to find and specify the BPM of a track.
Remember there are 2 types of sync in Traktor Tempo and Beat and they do slightly different things. DJ Tech tools is great for in depth Traktor tips, better than NI’s forum IMO.
You can adjust the beatgrid on the fly but it’s much better to do it before playing a set. You can place the grid on the drum beat or snare depending on how you want to mix. If you’re playing tracks with wide BPM difference you can set the pitch range to up to 100% in the setting menu to give you a much wider range of control and select Key lock on the mixer section. Personally, I’d try to keep the BPM’s of a playlist as close togther as possible, 5% preferably or 10% max if you really need to.DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantI’d go with Terry on the speakers it really depends on the venue and how they can be postioned. Floor standing, wall brackets or hanging from the ceiling. I have a Behringer PA system, now eventhough some people down rate Behringer I’ve never had a problem with my equipment and it’s good enough for small to medium venues. One thing I love is the EQ as it’s self adjusting, I get to a venue plug the mic in to the EQ and let it do it’s work. I have a mixing board which to be honest I used alot at first but now it’s in storage. Crossovers, Limiters (stops over enthuiastic DJ’s blowing the system) Compressors, Expanders the list of components can be mind numbing.
You also need to look at the booth size. I’ve been to clubs where there was just enough room for 2 CDJ’s and a mixer. It’s worth bearing in mind unless the manager is going to build one to fit the equipment or just use some tables. The last club I played at had an old dresser on the first floor landing which they used as the DJ booth, right next to the ladies room.
If you can get the room size and layout some good PA centres can advise you on the best speakers, amps and processors. For a bar I’d be looking at a budget of around £10,000, if not more, and work down.My actual set for my mobile work is 2 x CDJ900’s, DJM700 and an RMX1000. 2 X Behringer EP4000’s (Those beast are heavey) which I might change for the i Nuke 6000DSP (Light as a feather). Behringer CX2300 crossover. Behringer UB2442FX mixer, Behringer ULTRACURVE PRO DEQ2496 and a Behringer ULTRABASS PRO EX1200. I have various speakers which are used depending on the venue and music. I have 10 different set of speakers ranging from Turbosound subs (which you don’t need) to some cheap and cheerful KAM 15″s (which you won’t want) total cost of my set was close to £8000, not including any lighting you may want
I was considering a DJM850 or 900 but went with the 700 and RMX for the FX. With hindsight there would have been small advantages getting the DJM900 but I had a set budget. I’d definetly get a DJ mixer with a booth out and speakers for the booth. The CDJ’s give DJ’s the option of using multi formats or DVS without the need for a sound card unless they’re using Serato. There are cheaper multi format options though so don’t be fooled by the “Industry Standard” hype label. There can be Pros and Cons to every bit of hardware and software on the market.DeeJay SiBoogie
Participant@Tony > when you set up the event there an option that give’s you a link to paste in to Facebook and Twitter. People will alos the see the event in the calender on Mixify so they can RSVP.
So far there’s 4 of us. Those who have asked for the log in details can you go to the site log in and set up your event based on a 1hr time slot for each DJ. You’ll see the our events listed so make your coincide so each on starts straight after the other and use the same logo.

Don’t forget to post your mix after the event. Also remember in an imperfect world practice helps so it doesn’t matter if you’re beginner or a world class DJ let’s just have fun. If it turns out we make a good event and contiue to do so there no reason why we can’t get a featured event. We just need to have a regular events, good music and a crowd
I’m open to the logo being changed if anyone of you are good with designing or know any good logo designers. I’m also looking for a logo for myself which I don’t mind paying a small fee for.DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantPrinted CD’s can look great but I suggest getting a CD printer instead of putting sticky labels on them. I always carry a pocket full of business cards where ever I go and I’ll find out who the manager is, introduce myself, find out who does the bookings and leave my card. You’ll find some of the bars don’t actually book their DJ’s, it will be done by the main managing office via a DJ agency. So, privatley own bars are you best bet but there are so few these days and the ones you find will probably change hands every so often.
Another good way of getting yourself noticed would be to put on your promotion night, it’ll put you right where you want to be, playing the music you want to play with the possiblity of making a profit.
If you have a community radio station find out if they have any spare slots. I know my local station has slots but due to my job I’m unable to get on during the week and having free weekends is hit and miss as my mobile DJ work takes up my time.
Another thing you have to ask yourself is what comes first, you passion for the music you love or making a living. Sometimes the two walk hand in hand but sometimes you have to take a detour to get where you want to be. You may want to consider other musical genres that will give you that gateway in the booths.DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantThe dreaded sync button. It can be a blessing or a curse, it can allow you to work harder or be lazy. For my type of mixing I don’t need the sync so I moved away from DVS. However, I now have a different type of sync; Quantization, my loops are matched providing I’ve analysed the tracks in RekordBox and my fx are quantized thanks to the RMX1000. I could turn them off but it’s my choice not too.I’ll beatmatch the tracks but really that all I do. The most important part of being a DJ is the music you play. Put two DJ’s of equal skill and the same selection, one could rock and one fail. DJing is about what you play, when you drop it and how you mix. Listen to some of the best DJ mixes and it’s like listening to a story or journey (can you listen to a journey???)
Like it or loathe it there’s no escaping it, you can be a better DJ,choose not to use, be a jukebox synced playlist with no thought for the crowd or go back to the good ol’ days of carry vinyl.DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantSo here in the UK they go for £1500 each so this seems like the end of the line for the 2000 mk1 as the price is the similar. A lot of online shops have already taken the mk1 off the sites Big money and if I didn’t already own the 900’s I may have got these. However, not all is rosy. RekordBox is still unstable; it crashes it you sneeze. You could have a file that plays in any other program without a problem but try to load it into RB and it crashes. Pioneer’s response will be that the file is at fault. Got a USB drive that works in any other USB port but fails to work in CDJ, Pioneer will tell you it’s the drive. Go on their forum and they admit the Ethernet cable they pack with the CDJ’s is cheap rubbish and should be changed. Why not admit the USB ports are cheap too, that’s why a common fault is that the back USB ports fall apart. A bit like buying a Rolls Royce and finding it’s got cheap economy tyres. May be I should have got the Denon S3900, may be I will if RekordBox doesn’t improve in the next update. The question is though “Is engine any better than RekordBox?” As I’m writing this I’m struggling to get RB to link to my CDJ’s…again. The woes of a DJ…lol

The thing that most interests me is the laptop connectivity and whether or not these things send midi/HID over wifi as I like you wouldn’t want to give up my software, but would love to be able to use the players as controllers and be able to connect easily. I haven’t read anything confirming or denying it though.
The WIFI is for RB only, the same goes for most of the new functions such as the new waveform and the quantization. If your using CDs or a flash drive with non RB playlist the wave form won’t be there. The no mention if the waveform will work in advanced HID probably because Pioneer want their customer to use their software and entice people away from DVS

ParticipantI’ve gone ahead and set up a gmail account and mixify account. PM me for the log in details. I used the B2B logo
http://www.mixify.com/b2bdjs
If you’re up for it next Sunday the 16th starting at 3pm GMT could be our first event with each of us doing a 1hr set.DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantThe more the merrier Erik. Tony mixify is audio only.

ParticipantLOL looks like you were looking as I was typing.

ParticipantI run a line from my booth out mixer in to the mic input on my Laptop. I do it like that as the booth vol control allows me to control the gain output or you coild use the record out on the mixer.
Mixify itself is easy, when a DJ logs in they set their line input on the drop down menu (in my case it’s the line in) and set the gain levels. There a counter which counts down to the start of the event and once it’s at zero there’s a button to click to start streaming. A 2hr recording starts automatically and at the end of the event you can either publish it or delete it.. I tend to record on Mixify and record into Audacity at the same time that way if I do more than 2hrs I have a recording also Mixify records in mp3 not WAV.
There’s a fairly straight forward tutorial on the site
The site is still in beta but there is talk about intergating Tracktor to stream straight to the site so the tracks tags are displayed automatically when you stream, at the moment you have to manually type the track info which I can’t do for every track when I’m mixingDeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantWell 3 is a god number to start off with so whenever you guys have free time. I’m thinking possibly a “Sunday Session”. Let’s think up a group name for the account to be set up under. Anyone good at Logo design?
How about B2B with a similar logo:
http://portfolios.aiga.org/gallery/Music-Logo-Graphis-Gold/3424975
Or the MiX Factor with a logo based on the X Factor (corny LOL)DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantI just thought it would be good for a few of us to get together and do a streamed event there are already groups of DJs on Mixify doing it. if we see how many people are interested we can take it from there. I can go with most genres though Tech, Deep and Soulful House are main choices. Dubstep is defo not for me though and DnB is my weak point. That doesn’t mean that those can’t be played as depending on who and how many are interested not all the DJ’s have to play on every event but we could all be under one banner so to speak. I think it’s possible to set up one account and have multiple log ins into that account but each DJ would need to set up an event time then as one DJ finishes a set the next DJ can start

Any one or everyone with WIFI enabled on their phone in the club can screw with the DJ’s wifi.
“Industry’s First DJ Player with Wireless Source Capability “
I used to use WIFI for my set up (CDJ900) at home to cut down on wires but with the latest release of RB it got screwed, now I can’t get the decks to connect and the app tells me it can’t find a connection. Not a major issue but for Pioneer to claim the new 2000’s wireless capabilty is a first is plain BS hype
When I called it a controller over at Pioneer I had DJ’s wanting to crucify me (LOL) but really it’s an upgrade to recently XDJ with a CD player tagged on. You have beat and tempo sync, quantized loops and needle drop, I can stand in the booth doing a Jesus pose now like DG knowing everything I do will be on beat…..now how boring would that be. At least Paris will be able to beat match on ’em.DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantI found this it may be of help
