ParticipantYou have a couple of choices. Flash allows you to record as you stream. If you want to use use multi cams you can look at camtwist for the Mac or Mutlicam for Wins. You’ll need to use Multicam with Flash to stream. I’ve used multicam but moved to Xsplit as it offers more in the way of transtions and there no need to use flash. It also alllows you to record on or offline. There’s a free trial version and the full version isn’t that expensive to use. Wirecast (Wins) is another option but is expensive and is really for proffesional use but I find Xsplit just as good and much easier to use. If you want to make backgrounds or lower thirds etc a good cheap way is Splashup similar to photoshop but it’s online and free.
Another option is something like BlogTV that allows you to stream video/audio live and record as you stream. the Basic (free) account only allows 10mins recording and the premium account allows 30mins. These are saved to your account but can be downloaded
Here’s a example of a stream and recording I did, it was a test so a bit rough but it’ll give you some idea of what Xsplit can do DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantTerry is right about the BPM on CDJ’s not being accurate, The CDJ2000 reads to 2 decimal point whereas the CDJ900 doesn’t but both can be slightly out. This can esasily be noticed when you set to loops in beat as they will often drift. As for vinyl DJ’s I knew alot of old skool DJ’s who would right the BPM on the records and then it was only a matter of adjusting the pitch to the correct setting +/- % which really is no different to the CDJ read out, it was only a matter of knowing math. I don’t think CD players will die out just yet as they’re the back up should a DJ have a software crash mid set.

ParticipantThe more I think about the debate of what is real DJ the more I think there is no real answer anymore. Fake followers and votes has nothing to do with it as that is really about self bloating egos and promotion. Technology and media presentation has blurred the lines so much that I think all that matters is that the crowd keep dancing. If that comment is a contradiction to anything I’ve said it’s because I keep it real by being honest. It reminds of a time I was playing a gig and someone came up to me mid set and asked if was the DJ, I said no he’s just gone to fetch some more tunes and off they went. At the end of the day I just want to play music I enjoy and have the crowd dance and enjoy what I do. Do the crowd really care who it is playing the music, in my case probably not. I can’t remeber the club but it was in Manchester where the DJ Booth was in the basement with a window that allowed the dDJ to see the feet of people on the dancefloor.
It was all about the music and that’s what it should always be. I have a preference to how it should be played but a preference is all it is and it should never be the sole requirementDeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantIf I used a controller and had a chance to use some 2000 I’d jump with joy. On another note though I played a t club the other week and the was only room for 2 decks and the mixer in the booth not even room for another DJ. I got there early to swap out their 1000s with my 900s so I could my USB sticks and the other DJ’s were happy for the upgraded functions. So if I were you I wouldn’t limit yourself

ParticipantI can play the violin but can play. Ask you’re classical mates if they can mix manually…lol. Pre-recorded it may be but one continous recording it shouldn’t be.

ParticipantEric Prydz, Dj Sneak, Carl Cox, Sebastien Leger are all DJ’s who are working to expose th fakes so I’m all for the group and anyone with the same mind set. As for the Dalai Lama’s “Let no action of others endanger your inner peace.” Inner peace doesn’t mean he sat around doing nothing about issues that concerned him. Did he?
You’re not for for it but that you, that’s “your perogative” as Bobby sang. If you think faking is ok maybe this forum should give lessens in it to help all the up and coming DJ’s a chance to make it big.Excuses such as “I have to pre-record my set because of the light show” just doesn’t cut it for me and many others . Some DJ’s like to “Keep it real” as much as possible me included.
Pre recorded sets played live so they can be synced to visuals is bullshit. This shows live DJing to visuals is possible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m96MbRMzdHQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Just like the sync V’s beat matching debate this could go on forever but the gist of the post is that if you’re interested in joining the group people can if not you’re free to accept the fakers in the business

ParticipantTerry are you talking about the group or the DJ’s that fake the followers and the mixing. If the comment is aimed at the group there are some well know DJ’s that are a part of it, if it about the fakes there are some well known DJ’s who have already been exposed. I’m not sure what you comment is saying. So give credit where credit is due and expose the fakes
I’m not claiming the group will cause a change but I’ve seen enough post on this forum and others where complaints have been made about rigged voting systems and fake DJ’s so here is a group that is willing to expose rather than sit back and and let it continue.

ParticipantSome do it for love some do it for money and so many just do it for the love of money. I’ve always seen Calvin Harris as mainstream so I can’t say he sold out because he never bought in to anything else.

ParticipantStyleflip for any custom sticker. I got my platter covers from them for my CDJs

ParticipantActhook but you have to be quick. If you have a following the easiest way is to put your own night on.

ParticipantPersonnally I have no problem with a club specifying what equpment can be used, it just like a club stating what genre of music to play. As a DJ you have the same 2 choices with any venue; take it or leave it.

ParticipantA good way to practice digital matching is to set two 32beat loops and just when they matched knock the pitch fader on one to change the BPM then repeat. I use CDJs with quantized beats so the beat shouldn’t drift but they do so nudging the platter is needed. It’s like riding a bike once you get it you’ve got it. The rest is then like doing tricks on your bike. You’ve not said what hardware/software you’re using.
As for the EQ start with a flat setting (12 oclock) then it’s really done how you want to ovelay or bring in and take the tracks out. Watch youtube and watch how the DJs use the EQ’s. Some of the Pioneer video’s are good for this, also DJ Tutor/Ellaskins a deffinite must for begginers. Then there this sites online course; register for the emails.
You’re doing the right thing by recording your sets I record every one of mine and I’ll listen back to them over and over picking out the faults or noting how I could have done some better or different.
Consider getting a key analyzer if you don’t already have one to allow you to mix in key.Library management is really about finding what’s best for you to help you find what you want quicker. I had several different systems over the years depending on what collection I was using. Currently I have a Genre folder and I can then sort/filter that folder by artist, BPM, Key,Date or Comment (This tells if High, Mid, Slow etc). I use RekordBox with my CDJs so everytime I play a history folder is created which if I want to save it I will. Some DJ like to use Itunes, I’m not one of them, it seems to slow and clunky to me nor do I use auto playlist. However, each to their own.
Stick to this site and you’ll get plenty of advise and tips, the ppl here are a good bunch.DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantBeatunes. Is like ITunes and Mixed inKey plus a more and come with a 14 day free trial RekordBox works with CrossDj plus Pionner gear like CDJs and aero

ParticipantHey guys good news bad news. I’ve taken the plunge and gone with a promoter/ web station so hopefully I’ll gigging pretty soon. The bads news is it means the Sundays Mixify will be my last, I’ll try to pop in from time to time. I just want to say it been great and anyone who hasn’t joined the guys for the Sunday session you should give it a go and stop playing to the mirror in your bedroom. Guy I’ll tell you more on Sunday.
DeeJay SiBoogie
ParticipantDid you look in to what I told you and the guys about last Sunday? I contacted the company and should be signing up next week and will be doing a regular radio show soon after. It hard and can be spirit sapping but if you really want something don’t give up. There may still be some spots free but they going fast. I’ll give you more info on Sunday. Another DJ I know has just signed up and starts his show next Saturday and TBH we’re both excited about what the future will bring.
