Ah, this reminds me… try to be SUBTRACTIVE with your EQ. It is best if you want to hear the bass more to leave the bass at 12:00 and reduce the mids and highs than it is to turn the low past 12:00 – this tends to cause internal clipping, blahty blahty blahty, sounds ungood. That’s not to say you CAN’T do it, but save it for when you got such a great feel for EQ that you KNOW it’s OK to do it.

    Hi, Sami, welcome!

What kind of music do you spin?

Honestly, I have found it to be the opposite – DJing has improved my music considerably. It has put me more in touch with what sounds good to ME, as now I look more closely at the music I’m listening to, have a stronger tendency to tear it apart into its constituent parts, shape, and such. Not that I was incapable of it before, but since I started DJing, it’s something that I often find I’m doing automatically without even thinking about it.

There is one exception, as I stated, to “no matter what” – a LOT of artists give away a LOT of their tracks. Soundcloud is a font of free music. 95% or so of my setlist is free, but LEGALLY so.

Can you also say why it is you are thinking about replacing your controller, other than just “newer and better?” That will help to inform the conversation, as we don’t really know why you want to replace it yet.

Yes, you have a legal obligation to pay for the tracks you play, unless they are given away by the artist, regardless of your own commercial intent (assuming you are living in a Berne convention country, which you most likely are).

No, YouTube’s license specifically forbids public performance.

… and that above is comin’ from the man who lives in THE country for DJing.

I’m not sure we have any DJUCED users here, do we? I know Phil has reviewed it (briefly, as part of reviewing the hardware), but it doesn’t tend to ever come up in conversation.

This is a promo mix I threw together to showcase my new single which is coming out later this week – “This Is How We Do It in Kalamazoo.” It’s the last track in the set, and it’s my first go at Ghetto Swing after feeling so good about how “Freakytown” really managed to nail the Ghetto Funk sound for me (also in this set).

Hope you dig it! I’ll announce here when the single (and its accompanying music video) are released – should be tomorrow.

    Setlist:
00:00 Beat Fatigue – Fragile Funk Cat
    01:08 deathy – Freakytown
03:09 DJ Soo – Saturday Night
06:49 Slynk & Beat Fatigue – Graffiti Alley
09:25 The Captain – Club Band
12:14 Funk Moguls – Roc Blockin
