Thank you, Phil! I’m guessing 100-128. I guess I could just try mixing with that in mind 🙂

Ok, totally reinstalled Traktor and deleted all former mappings/settings seems to have fixed that crossfader issue but I would like my jogwheels to affect my tempo more quickly. Any help with that?

I’m kinda wondering this as well. I’m still using a Mixtrack Pro and I’m looking to upgrade BADLY. I’d hate to buy an S2 or S4 and then NI announce a new controller. I really wanted a DDJ-SX but I see that there’s a lot of issues with the third party mappings for Traktor. Same goes for the NS7 II, seems like it would be unreliable…if possible at all.

Seems like we’re not alone though. There sure are a lot of threads on this forum with people saying they want a new controller for Traktor but don’t know what to buy since there’s not many options right now as far as high end controllers go, minus the S4. (That are worth it, actually, since I read the DDJ-T1 isn’t really worth the amount of money it costs.)

I’ve had people suggest that I use an APC40 for the remix decks. Is this possible at all? What would be the pitfall? I’d like to have an APC40 for Ableton as well so it’d save me money.

I’m having the same exact problem. My files are scattered randomly across my external hard drive and there are just folders everywhere that I have to click and even lists of folders inside of folders that are in lists of folders. It’s like folder inception and there’s almost no organization at all. On top of that, I have way too much music to manage.

My third gig was a complete failure (bad beatmatching, timing completely off, and I stopped my decks) because I got drunk off of the free drinks. I will never do it again, that’s for sure. I’m still very embarrassed about it and can’t wait to go back to redeem myself.

Mixing dubstep, dnb, and other EDM genres, I fall into this trap as well. I’m pretty much in this formula of playing a song, starting the other song and overlapping it so that the ‘drop’ is at the break (I use my waveforms and kinda measure out the timing in my head), and fade or filter/other effect as necessary once the break of the first song and drop of the new song comes in. Sometimes I have cue points for my songs to make them shorter so that I can skip the break completely. The reason I do this is because it seems like people get really bored of songs really quick in these genres. I have to keep popping on new tracks or I feel like I’m not doing anything, just playing music, and I will surely lose my crowd if I play a song to the end.

When I first started (not but just a few months ago), I would make House and Electro mixes to post online. I didn’t follow this formula at all, I would transition near the end of the song. I think it has a lot to do with your crowd and playing live.

As far as ‘Internet Friends’ goes, about everyone around here has heard the song to death! Since I knew they’d probably shrug it off if I played it, I dropped this the night I played my first gig at an EDM weekly with intentions of playing a House/Electro set. People went absolutely insane! The dance floor was pretty much dead and before I knew it everyone in the place was dancing!

    Amazing remix.

Thanks, guys. Without even trying to do this, what I’ve ended up doing is exactly what’s been suggested. My playlist has been heavily modified since I first started working on it for this big event. I did a few of the tunes a couple of times when playing out but always in a different order. Since then, I’ve added different tracks and rearranged things a lot. I appreciate all of the feedback!

I’ve played 3 gigs now and would like to give a lot of credit to digitaldjtips.com and the forums here for a lot of my motivation and breakthrough. The first two went off without a hitch, got a lot of props, made a lot of friends, and now I’m part of a crew of EDM DJ’s and the local scene as well as continue to get gigs for bigger ‘monthlies’ and EDM weeklies in surrounding cities. I still get really nervous. Some days I wonder if I should be doing this still or if I’m really cut out for it but I love it so I continue to push on hoping to block out this negativity. I have a weekly to play this week and had to cancel two gigs because I had some coursework and preparation for a large monthly event this Saturday that I’m playing to do. I’m really still experimenting with how to calm my nerves. I can tell you it’s not overly drinking. My third gig was almost a complete failure because I drank heavily due to nervousness. Tomorrow night, I believe I’ll just have a couple of beers and try my best to relax and be confident.

I should add that on my way to my first gig, I was so excited to be playing an EDM weekly. I wasn’t nervous at all. A few blocks away from the club and I thought I was gonna throw up! It’s pretty crazy how the anxiety can come and go.

Thanks, DJimC. I guess you’re right, as long as I have a different beginning, ending, or both, I might be ok! 😀

Yeah, I pretty much have 10 or 11 tracks lined up in a folder that I know how to sequence well together for a great experience. After those songs, I’m left to doing things on the fly.

This is racking my brain. I really wanna jam out tonight but I’ve taken a lot of time to perfect this set with cue points, timing, and musical flow. I don’t want people to think I can’t mix if I do it twice but I’d love to be able to pop out this banging set twice.

People who paint still take art classes and evolve their own style, even after being taught and tutored.

I like it a lot. Very original. I’ve had difficulty coming up with a name myself. My last name is Black so I’d like to try to incorporate that somewhere but the names I think of are always either taken, I’m unsure of, or may make people think I’m African-American xD
