MemberHi DJSpin, it is unclear what you are asking here.

MemberBring down the channel faders so that the levels sound about the same, and make sure that you don’t have too much conflicting bass/mid from the combination of so many songs.
Are you talking about how to keep levels even during transitions, or about doing live mash-ups?

MemberWow, sounds like you’ve really given this thought, D-Jam! I could see this topic getting upgraded to a blog post.

MemberI write in my comments how long the intros and outros are, and put cue points at the outros so I can see when they’re coming up. When mixing, I’ll mix in new songs at either the a drop, a breakdown, or an outro. I like to play around with effects and acapella samples during mixes, so I don’t really skip large parts of songs like it sounds you are doing.

OP asked if we use this technique, not how to gain access to cue points (I think). OP, please clarify what you are doing (or make a video), as the post is a little grammatically confused.

Are you mixing the breakdowns of one song into another, or mixing the breakdown of one song into the intro of another? Or perhaps mixing the outro into a breakdown?

Only in the worlds of hip hop, breaks, and EDM is there such contention about what a DJ is. For instance, in salsa, blues, and swing dance communities, it is not uncommon to have a “DJ contest” where people will come to the venue with a playlist on their ipod to play music that night and modify the list based on how the crowd reacts during their hour-long “DJ” slot. This is the most important part of DJing: making people dance, keeping everyone happy, and maintaining the energy of the party.

Opening Lyrics….
“The sun goes down
The stars come out
And all that counts
Is here and now
My universe will never be the same
I’m glad you came”I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SONG FOREVERRR! I couldn’t find it because I could never get the lyrics right when I tried it in search engines.

As a bboy, breaks make me want to throw down. And it’s a college party so people are coming to dance with others, not see bboys cyphering…

MemberAre you asking about how to mix 2 songs together as a transition? I don’t know if you know how to beatmatch by ear yet, but it is an essential skill for mixing songs in which the tempo drifts.

Member@Vinny Blanc: Good finish on your new logo, I really like the way it turned out!
@Manhattan: I think it is a great idea to have a weekly post, it really keeps you motivated, and makes you take a little more ownership over the whole DJ thing. Have you had any opportunities to play at house parties or anything similar yet?Dayvue
MemberI agree, see what kind of mood they want after the opening and set break. As for the closer, bang ’em with your big guns!
Maybe make the opener mostly moombah since it’s lower-tempo than most other electronic music and has pretty funky percussion patterns?

Membersorry guys, I’ve been a bit overwhelmed by school and gigs lately, I hope to have a mix up by next week, but I need to get my med school personal statement touched up, among other things
