@Alchemy if you want to activate effects faster you might want to consider mapping individual ones to the keyboard or controller buttons. I found Traktor harder to select effects compared to VDJ. If you’re not doing any intense scratching then vdj is perfectly capable. I used VDJ too so if you need any help mapping, let me know.

I agree with Terry that the jogwheel integration is tighter and that the effects can be terrible. The last point is a little subjective because it’s up to you what works. Still it’s easier to go from vdj to serato than vdj to traktor imo

The G2V is an excellent controller but only for VDJ and traktor. I hope Cross supports it soon. DJ Vintage put in a good word for me lol!

Look for cue volume. Move the crossfader to the other side and turn up the track’s volume level. More details on what you are using would be helpful

Allow me to advocate for VDJ. I’ve tried the big 3 softwares and I personally choose VDJ. Serato does have great scratch quality and good itunes integration. However that same tight integration with itunes is the major issue i have with it. If you are not an itunes user then navigating to songs gets to be a chore and you can’t see all the information. I like to keep my music organized by folder so i can add and remove and move around tracks easily without a separate program which makes backing up easier. Also VDJ has key detection built in (which saves you from having to pay for another program) and i can have my track information displayed however i want it. I found traktor’s UI to be not user friendly to my workflow and the mapping not as good as what i could do with VDJ and VDJsript. As stated above it is very customizable if you take a little time to learn how to do it(no to mention skins, if you are so inclined). Also I have found VDJ to be very stable and not likely to crash after long periods of time. Some of the effects are indeed terrible but hopefully VDJ8 will fix that.

    Happy to be of service

Probably didn’t give it enough time for the drivers to be installed/downloaded via Windows update. It is Plug&Play but its more plug, wait, then play.

Mixvibes CROSS software supports your controller and to full version is cheap compared to serato traktor and VDJ. There is also a free version.

When you look past the Windows vs Mac debate I believe the real issue may come down to the software that you are running. No matter what brand of laptop you buy, if you were to leave it alone its not going to just crash. In fact one of the reasons why people still use Virtual DJ is because of its ability to remain stable running for hours. If the program is not written well, that is what will bring down your computer.

Man if it works for you I’m happy.

I have one of those (collecting dust in its box) that i got for cheap when i was just starting and didn’t know better. It gets the job done with vdj and is better than a mouse and keyboard but still not exactly worth it.

You should still do updates because they can help with drivers and power management which can help with your heating issue. But as Chuck says a cooling pad should help. Changing laptop brands won’t make much of a difference if there is a heat issue.

I’d recomend Asus since they are rated #1 for reliability. It’s what i use now. Not a huge fan of dell but asus acer and lenovo (as long as its not one with a fancy hinge which i have known to have issues after a while) you should e fine.
