awesome thank you! I think that’s part of why I’m torn. I mostly dig industrial and glitch so traktor seems like a fit. But I really want the ability to learn how to scratch as well. maybe I’ll get both.

I can’t seem to find any for sale except the terminal 4 at guitar center online shop. Even google doesn’t turn up any results for buying the jockey 3 remix.

I had the exact same problem when i was looking for one, it’s mostly a Europe thing I guess. So here in the US guitar center is the only place that sells them. They do not carry the remix, only the terminal 2 and terminal 4. I did find one on amazon for a minute thought (remix version)

I would suggest if you don’t need 4 channels and are using traktor the s2. you can get the mk1 for only $400 now since they’re being sold off to make room for the new mk2…you probably wont see a deal that good again for quite some time. I myself went with a vci-400, don’t need 4 channels, probably will have no use for such a large controller but i’m thinking of giving serato a try. If i was sure I wanted only traktor I would have stuck with the S2.

    hope that helps.

*edit* I just noticed you mentioned already finding the terminals at guitar center. Yeah google couldn’t even find a place that sold the remix 3 in US for me either. So ignore anyone who makes comments like “learn to google” it’s just not there. Found one on some shady looking website that I didn’t trust, not a single reputable dealer.

You guys have been very helpful. Reading these forums is the best place for information I’ve found online. i have decided on the vestax vci-400 so that I have the option to use it with traktor or serato…and being a geek who loves mapping controllers to do strange things in ableton I like how open that hardware is.

Thank you guys for the links and the help.

Yeah, I was referring to how if you use traktor you’re giving up tight jogwheel response with anything other than an s2 or s4, at least in traktor 2.0 that’s how it was.

I am willing to look into serato. Maybe with the reloop controller because I like it’s layout, although a vci380 looks really sexy too and is on sale right now for crazy cheap. My main concern with serato is back when I was fooling with tunes there were so few effects and so few things you could do with them. Being from ableton I tend to do a lot of effects tweaking and live parameter control to produce interesting sound and less cue point juggling. (although i would love to get better at that.)

The problem I’m having with my research is everything I can find to read is outdated. For example all the serato controller reviews refer to itch still. Although the more I read about how smoothly serato runs the more intrigued I am, and actually considering it.

does serato have more in depth effects now? can a vci-380 be used for other software as well, it would make me feel more comfortable to not be locked to one software with whatever controller I have.

so currently my options under 8 bills are:

    traktor
    S4 mk2
reloop remix 3 (minimal controls so lots of shifting)
reloop terminal 4 (sounds like not great with traktor)

    or serato:
    vci 380 (serato only?)
    reloop terminal 4
    ns6

Where do you buy reloop controllers?

I can’t seem to find any for sale except the terminal 4 at guitar center online shop. Even google doesn’t turn up any results for buying the jockey 3 remix.

I’m wondering the same thing. Just got my bonus and part of it I’ve set aside to buy a controller. Up until now I’ve been an ableton guy using synths and controllers for my music but want to give a go at dj style controllers and software.
I was going to get a mixtrack to try it out but I’m wanting something that last a while if I do like it. I definitely want a mid range controller and my price is around $600. Currently the top contender is the s2, but that’s because it seemed to be one of the few in that range, after that it jumps to about $900.
so any opinions on alternatives to the S2, i’m a little worried about how much of a pain I hear traktor is to midi map with and virtualDJ is more intuitive, but on the other hand I’ve heard virtual dj controllers aren’t as responsive as the s2 with traktor.

If you don’t mind, why is the hercules 4set a bad option?

Thank you. That was amazingly helpful! I was really lost but I have a much better idea now. Might just be mixtrack.
