ParticipantYeah…but I don’t consider it the hard EDM kind of event we would really need.
I’m more just talking about when people go get sorted and party all night in a “come as you are” mode. Where dancing becomes more important than booths and bottles and fashion.

ParticipantI actually would love to see another acid or E scene pop up…just to shake up the whole industry out of these glam bottle service fake-people clubs.
I only wish the scene itself would work more to police itself so it’s the ravers tossing out the shadey dealers and pushing the weekend warriors who do too much to go home…as opposed to the parental groups coming down on us.

ParticipantThis weekend is totally up in the air. Supposedly the guys at themovement.fm were having a BBQ, but I haven’t heard much on this.
Only “set in stone” thing was that I was going to learn to make tandoori chicken. Probably also work on some blogs and get to making a mobile version of my website.

ParticipantI’m actually interested to see what the Gemini CTRL-47 will be like.

ParticipantNice job…you get it.
Networking can be about getting possible gigs or even just making contacts for other purposes. Suppose you decide to throw an event and need a good headliner to draw people…there you go. 😉

ParticipantI agree you can’t overdo it on effects. I honestly don’t ever overdo effects in anything I play because the music itself has effects and such the producer put in. To me, effects are a nice enhancement, but some guys literally go overboard and make their sets all about effects tricks.

The How to Succeed at DJing series. I tend to call it “the guide” because it started off as a long post I put on DJForums.com.
I think that’s even how I met Phil.

ParticipantHer DJing was nonexistent. She wasn’t matching beats or even trying to make things work. She was more or less a gogo dancer in the DJ booth. Eye candy.
When I came on stage to say hi to colleagues, she did a “blend”. I looked at my colleagues with a “WTF?” look on my face. My colleagues laughed simply because they knew she was just eye candy there.
She knows how to operate the gear, but not how to DJ. I’m sure it’s all just to slap the Playboy name to clubs. It is an affront to female DJs who try to build the talent and rep.
Oh well. It’s a popularity game like I said in the guide.

ParticipantFYI: Avid just released a 2.02 update.

ParticipantWell, Quake Arena was a long time ago…so I’m sure you can run it. 🙂

ParticipantGo ahead and network. What if another venue has a setup for you to use?
Get a setup though, or even see if you can just do it all with your laptop for now.

ParticipantMany times. Whenever ANYONE claims they’re “close” with some member of the management, I tell him/her to bring the manager here and tell me. I usually do this ONLY when the requests are totally conflicting with the overall vibe.
Sometimes I’ve told trixies who claim they know the owner that the owner isn’t in charge here tonight…that it’s the promoter. They get mad, but the promoters were glad I didn’t destroy their night to please a trixie. Even when the owner comes over and asks me to play the girl’s requests, I’ll simply and politely say that I would be happy to, but I do not want to wreck the promoter’s night and thus they should make sure it’s ok with them.
I just think people get into this “me me me me me me” mode and forget it’s not about just them. The worst was when a promoter told me to play whatever BS some trixie wanted to hear because he wanted to lay her later. You can see why his event didn’t last very long and got labeled “lame” very quickly.
Bar owner’s son is no different. If his requests are going to make a mess of the night, then I insist I get a green light from whoever is in charge. It sounds like a lot, but if playing some brat’s request is going to cause 1/4 or more of the crowd to leave, then one has to ask what’s more important.

ParticipantAH…but the ADJ2 is the right choice in my book. It’s small and does the job well.
