You might also want to look into remix services and DJ music services. Often times they get those remixes.

ParticipantI think going straight to MP3 would work if you can do things in one take and want to upload immediately.
I’m more a fan of recording to wav and then converting to MP3…only because I like to normalize channels and tweak a few things.
I must admit, VDJ looks amazing. If I leave Torq it would be hard for me to choose between VDJ and Traktor.

ParticipantI actually liked going to the recaps of the Ultra Music Fest. Listened to AvB’s set and ended up picking up a bunch of the tunes he played.
Other than that, I surf all the sites, mainly checking out DJs I like and listening to what they’re playing.

I agree. I love my Xponent, and it’s worked well for me…but it’s now outdated compared to new stuff coming out.
I’d tell you to pick one up if you want a bargain, or you’re willing to map and play with all that. However, it’s still been sketchy if AVID is going to keep supporting Torq or not. Already we’ve seen that they’re not going to update the hardware. I’m actually going to put my Connectiv and timecode on eBay since I don’t use it anymore.
I suggest you first pick your “weapon of choice”, meaning your software…and then pick a controller that works well with it. I know for me I have my eyes on the new Behringer modular controllers.

ParticipantI’m currently using Torq because I like the workflow, but lately I still question if AVID is going to continue supporting the software.
If they ditch it, then I’m torn between Traktor and VDJ. Traktor I keep feeling like is the “least likely to be abandoned”, but I do like the workflow of VDJ better.

Just do them yourself, or record a friend who has a voice you like. Get imaginative.

ParticipantYour website sucks…and so do you. YAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!
I’m kidding. Here’s my thoughts:
1) I think your first page should be a news kind of thing. Visitors should see events you’re going to play and new mixes you’ve posted. The bio should be another page. You want to hit people immediately with what you’re doing. Let them find out about you if they want on their own.
2) I agree that the play between the logo and the tagline is too even. In that graphic I’d reduce the size of the tagline so the logo is more prominent. I also would take out some of that space between your logo/tagline and the copy.
3) For your mixes, if you can’t host the mixes, then I’d tell you to post them both on MixCloud and MixCrate. Post the nice player with your album art showing, and then link to the MixCrate entry so someone can download it.
4) The dubtribe thing is nice, but I’d tell you then to put a blog in your site and put those there. Your music/mixes page should be 100% about you. No one else. Let dubtribe promote themeselves.
5) I’d also see if you can lighten up the text a little more so it reads more easily off that background.

ParticipantI think it’s just people trying to keep the idea that midi controls are “not real DJing” and it’s only “real DJing” if you spent hundreds to thousands on the “decks”.
Rubbish.

ParticipantI agree on Beatport and Traxsource. I’d also tell you to look around Soundcloud for remixes people make, and also use iTunes and Amazon. I notice a lot of big commercial hits seem to go to iTunes before Beatport.

ParticipantMeh…this is life when you’re a DJ. I remember people getting tired of hardhouse in the 90s, then the cheesey sides of trance and UK hardhouse in the mid-00s. Now it’s Electro House and Dubstep.
This is when you have to dig deeper, and perhaps turn down DJ gigs where you are forced to play the pop you don’t like. I know I found a new love for tech house when electro-house became too formulaic, but the tech sound also came out of the minimal/boring sound.
Go out…discover new things…try new things. This isn’t a one-trick pony kind of thing. Worse comes to worse, start up a night or online show to build up a scene for the new sounds you like.
I usually get into “phases”. Right now I’ve been on a phase to make some old school mixes. Maybe in a few months I’ll feel like something else. That’s the beauty of this DJ thing.

ParticipantFind a venue that will let you do things as you wish, bring them all the business, let the competitors suffer, and tell them if they want you then they have to let you play all over.
Let them get mad…if they’re losing money and you’re making other venues money, then they can’t say anything. Whoever controls the crowd is the one who calls the shots. They’re paying you to bring them a crowd…so utilize that logic.
Another idea is to make a new name for yourself for each venue. So you’re DJ Tyler in the first, DJ Vulgar in the second, and so on. If they make a stink, you just say you’re not performing as the other guy in the other venues.

ParticipantYou could try this $1 solution. Not top of the line, but you’ll be able to get the audio into your computer with this, a DJ mixer, and the turntable.

Also look in your town or elsewhere if there are any services that would do it for you. Vinyl to CD or anything. You can then rip the CD.

ParticipantDo know know anyone who has turntables, mixer, and a computer? So you can record it through them?

I have a strange fascination with love, relationships, and all that subject matter. I don’t know why it fascinates me, but it does.
