Memberguetta gets bad rap amongst “djs” but his live sets at festivals are pretty damn good.

Memberive been recently playing with the new k2. its a bit easier to use than a single x1 but if you use 2 x1s or 2 k2s, you can easily have all you need without having to switch layers or use shift functions.
as you said, you gotta make sure you beat grid all your songs. since im not totally comfortable with the set up, its harder to do some spontaneous experimental mixing which usually require a jogwheel. im thinking of adding a denon sc controller to my setup in the future to help with this. although still hoping a smaller controller with a jogwheel comes out soon

Memberim guessing this is a continuation off the other thread. if you play the mixtrack at the same level as you use the ipod then it wont blow it out. however im betting the mixtrack can output the volume higher than an ipod.
also if youre throwing parties where the volume of an ihome and ipod is enough without severe distortion…then go for it. but in my experience..using small speaker + house party = turning it all the way up for a long duration of time

Memberrcf art 310a or 312a would be the cheapest i’d look into and they compete well above their value

Memberi like mashing different version together. if i played a song early on and someone requests the song again later on in the night, i might consider playing a remix of it

Memberyoure better off renting. you can get a 10″ powered speaker, stand, and cables for $50. Since you’re doing it with your friend you can ask him to help you with the cost. you can try using some loud computer speakers but everytime i do that, i end up blowing a $150-200 system.
if this is a one time thing, then go rent. if its going to be more frequent, you should look into investing into a powered PA speaker.

Memberalrighty i will go that direction then. now the search for a used one beings…hardly any up for sale

Memberbasically midi controllers is a way to connect “buttons” to a computer and assign those buttons to do specific tasks. the controllers are laid out in a way that is convenient for djing but essentially you could take anything that is MIDI, such as a keyboard and assign them to functions in a djing program and dj with that.
i think for the most part, remixes and mashups are done in the studio and then played live. you can’t do too much (or at least i can’t) live besides simple effects and basic mash ups.
as for program choices, DJs generally use 1 dj software such as serato or traktor, not both. there is a growing amount of Djs that are using ableton to supplement their DJing, but ableton in itself is not a DJing software. It is more for producing.
hope that helps a bit…

Memberagreed, for a house party you could get a pretty good powered speaker and a stand for 50 bucks

Memberi tend to make small mistakes here and there in the bedroom and you would think that these mistakes would be amplified by a louder sound system but ive found that the opposite seems to be true. the eq is far more forgiving and speakers are far less sensitive to the small adjustments you make. once you notice what you can get away with, it lets you play around with your songs a bit more.

Memberover all pretty good for a first attempt. my main thing to say would be to not have the synth so prominent in the intro

MemberIt was kind of like when I bought my first manual car. I was so excited to finally get it but after an hour or so trying to learn how to use it, I didn’t touch it for a week out of frustration.
