The girl wants mashups (e.g. Big Sean over an Avicii track everyone knows) and remixes like the discofries remix of Good Feeling by Flo-rida. Not that confusing.

I’ve reached out to a local dive bar that used to have a metal night on mondays, only with bands. When I spoke the guy, he semmed interested in starting it back up (it ended two years ago) but I didn’t have a real, well thought out idea. Since it’s not, technically speaking, a club night does anyone have any suggestions on how to approach it?
There is metal-ish night here in D.C., but it’s an electro-subgenre night. Mostly Haezer, The S – guys who have a dark, hard electro-rock sound. E.g. http://soundcloud.com/zak-electrohead-kilmister/metalectro-mixtape-vol-11. Draws a huge crowd of metal heads and is pretty popular.
Designer Drugs & Le Castle Vania (my favorite DJ ever) have similar sounds and crowds, too. Check them out.

MemberSeperate partition – just Audacity and Itch – no internet. I don’t mix with sync, so any time I could waste on Safari I’m wasting on the set, the crowd or my drink.

MemberBeatport…and the thousands of remixes on Hype Machine to choose from.
You want Kesha? Guess what. I hate Kesha. What’s that electro-house remix? Guess what. I’m playing Kesha tonight!

Likewise. Sometimes it can give you an idea, but you’ll know from messing around what works. MIK has suggested things that in practice sound outright terrible. 🙂

MemberNot sure if you’re a fan of Moombahton, but there are some sick remixes of older, early/mid-2000s rap e.g. http://hypem.com/#!/item/1dypd/Real+Juicy+-+Badd+Moombahton+Bitch+%28Mike+Jones+x+DFace%29
The girls just want something they know or are familiar with. It can literally come in any package, and they’ll still
flip out. I’d maybe think about mash-ups and electro/genre remixes, especially if it’s dancey.Cool Cats
MemberWhat Phil said, and you can always zoom in on the waves if you find them too small with the plus key (shift and =).

MemberLion is solid with Itch. People were having problems with it pre 2.0 – especially with it not recognizing after the laptop went to sleep, but I have yet to have an issue.

MemberAny DJ who starts a set with Tittsworth and Nadastrom, especially WTF, is a-ok in my book.

MemberYep. There is a shift key right next to the hotcue buttons, and you press that while tapping one of the auto loop buttons. I didn’t click on the link above, but I bet it’s what he/she is doing.

NS6
Pros
• it just works! everyone on forums who have it absolutely love it. no gripes so far
• 4 channels, stand alone mixer, great for expansion in future
• built like a work horse, sturdy, professional. seems like its made to last. looks trustworthy for gigs
• its closer to the VCI-300/S4, will be more familiarCons
• nothing very exciting in terms of features
• heavy, footprint comparable to the S4 though, which i have been carrying around. might end up sitting at home
• pricey, always a conSeems like a decision between something fresh and innovative (twitch) and something with more performance and trustworthy (NS6). I’m honestly slightly leaning towards Twitch but will like to hear some opinions before making the jump. Especially for Phil since you have tested both units out.
Cheers!
So, I ran into the same problem with Traktor having come from the VCI-300 and Itch. Wasn’t interested in the Twitch due to the lack of platters, but I did order the NS6 and can vouch for how AWESOME it is. The sound is warm and punchy, the audio output is crazy high – really had to push the VCI, but this needs no push – the faders, knobs, FX section and platters feel light years ahead of the 300 (the 300 platters are technically “better”, but the NS6 feels so much more legit). Only gripe is the looping section, as it’s unnecessarily complicated compared to the simplicity of the VCI’s looping section. Sure, you can loop roll and edit in/out of loops on the fly, but in practice, it feels like something you end up just skipping live.
Also, I did a lot of research prior to purchase, and the main complaint was the weight, but really, it’s not THAT heavy. Unless you have really weak arms or are walking miles, it’s 14lbs w/o the flight case. That’s like a 17″ laptop in a backpack and a bag lunch.

MemberAndy,
What Mike said is spot-on about either slowly adjusting or halfing the bpm and spliting into higher BPM songs.
For key, your ears are the best tool you have, but I also analyse my tunes with mixedinkey. Also, Mixmeister and VDJ have key detection in-software, so you could play around with those as well.
