That’s what I’m talkin’ about Jordy!!! Dang, you listed one helluva track list. Wow @ the Rodney O and Joe Cooley mention. No more talking for me…printing this thread now!!!! LOL. I really appreciate the feedback guys. Looks like I have a little more song searching to do.

For a 3hr party I ask for about 100 songs and from that, I pack my crate (along with at least 30min of tracks that I want to play and feel will make people dance.)

A lot of the tracks end up not being used, but the larger your request list, the more chance you have of picking tracks that both you and your crowd will like to hear.

2 Pac’s track “old school”, Intergalactic, Queen Latifah’s UNITY, almost anything by LL Cool J (the ladies really love him), De La Soul or A Tribe Called Quest have never failed me.

Yep, can’t forget LL Cool J for the ladies. They truly love that dude…lol.

Thanks for the run down, dubc. I’m in the Atlanta Metro area which has a various assortment of transients from all over the country living here. I have noticed that the Detroit/Midwest stepping scene doesn’t seem too big here in the “A”, but if there are any folks from Chicago, Detroit, etc. in the building they would really enjoy stepping.

In any event, I have songs from the artists you mentioned so I’m on track.

Ethnic/racial makeup is majority African American. Age range is 18 – 60 years old. I know there are some Funk/Disco classics that will probably get the 35 and over crowd going, but if you have surefire recommendations I’ll be sure to add them to the playlist and build on it from there.

Question @shawn: Did you start out using Serato first without doing a comparison of Serato v. Traktor? I thought about switching to/or adding Serato DJ and the Pioneer DDJ SX, but I put off the purchase since I haven’t had my Denon MC6000 controller too long.

Nevertheless, I tried Serato Intro and Traktor, but I enjoyed Traktor’s workflow better at the time.

Denon MC6000 + Traktor Pro user here. I had the MC3000 and it was a great controller, but felt the need to upgrade to the 6000 before the store’s return policy expired..LOL.

I’ve done a couple of gigs with it so far and it’s been great. As Chuck asked, what info are you looking for? There are a few people on here that own both units (3000 & 6000).

Thanks, gbad. The gig was for a book signing and party. The age range was 45-55 years old. I assisted with the set up and break down, and played a set for maybe 40-45 minutes with R&B/Funk classics. We also played a couple of line dancing songs for the crowd to get the ladies up; works every time. Most of the time the guests were eating, talking and bobbing their heads to the music.

It was a little tedious, but I managed to get the Sample Decks to work with the MC6000. Thanks for the tip about setting decks C and D to Midi. You guys confirmed my suspicions and saved me $40 + tax in the process. 🙂

Ok. I’m going to load the samples into the Sample Decks and see if that flows for me.

What exactly is a DJ License and why would anyone need it? A business license I can see, but a DJ License? *off to Google to search I go*

So in the instance of there being several DJ Skittles, will that pose a trademark infringement threat even if the DJ’s are in cities/towns across the country?

I typically do the same thing as the others pointed out except that instead of 4 bars I may take it to 8 to 16 bars depending whether or not I can incorporate the entire melody of the intro.

I’m not really sure if I understand your question, but do you have the newest .tsi mappings? See here: http://usa.d-mpro.com/us/denondj/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?CatId=Controllers&SubCatId=0&ProductId=MC3000

FYI – the link is for US consumers. But if you’re not in the US: http://www.denondj.com/Pages/Home.aspx
