ParticipantHave you visited a store to get a feel of either device? If you’re in the NW ATL area, you should be close to either a Guitar Center, Sam Ash or even Ken Stanton Music store. I would recommend going there and talking to the reps and watching Youtube videos uploaded by folks who use the controllers.
More than likely they’ll give you the pros and cons of their controller and it will be up to you to decide which controller works best for you. I don’t think there’s a perfect controller so I wouldn’t get caught up trying to find one. I will tell you that for me personally, I didn’t like the Mix Track Pro because I felt the quality build wasn’t there in case I wanted to go mobile.
I took back the Mixtrack Pro and tried the Denon MC3000. My decision to go for Denon was probably naive because I couldn’t get Serato DJ to work without a controller. Sorry, but I don’t remember the details, but I do remember that Serato only gave you the light version of its product and I wasn’t able to fully understand all of the functions.
I then moved on to Traktor and noticed that for at least 30 mins or so I had full function of the software and I liked it. I still use Traktor with the my current controller, the Denon MC6000. I felt the MC3000 was a good controller, but I liked having the bigger brother.
Now, one day I may decide to try out Serato DJ again with the Pioneer DDJ-SX, but it’s not a must at this time for me.
Good luck finding a controller that fits you, but do visit the stores and check them out first.

ParticipantBranden,
Did you ever play out a set? Could you give us a better picture of what happened? For instance, what time was the gig? Was the party full by the time DJ X started? Did the DJ X ask you to use your equipment or did he simply plug into your mixer? Also, I’m wondering if DJ X only played a couple of sets and left, but you were the MAIN DJ to keep the crowd going long into the night? Just wondering if you could give us more details.

I’ll check this out as well. Thanks for the suggestions.

ParticipantHmmm…I purchased cooling feet hoping that would help, but the bottom does get warm. Geesh. I tried finding a decent laptop cooling pad, but I wasn’t pleased with any of them.
I’ll also look into blowing the vents too. I haven’t done it in a couple of months so it’s definitely overdue.

ParticipantHey Ryan. It sounds like what you’re describing happened to me last week. The music coming from Deck B would be significantly higher than what was coming from Deck A using the same track. I tried it with the same song to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind.
To add insult to injury, it appeared the EQ settings on the mixer and Traktor were in sync, but it wasn’t until I turned each knob when the problem corrected itself. The LOW FILTER EQ seemed to have been the culprit because it was the last knob I turned when the sound came back fully.
Also, you may want to close out Traktor completely and re-open it to see if that corrects itself too.

ParticipantGood summary Chuck. The only time I’ve used Cross so far has been to use the AutoMix feature. I haven’t purchased the software yet, but plan to do so soon so that I can start playing around with it using the mc6000.

ParticipantUPDATE: I checked out Traktor last night. No other software was running except for Traktor. The LIMITER was definitely disabled. However, the Headroom option was set to +/- 6dB. Strangely enough, it’s always been set that way.
In any event, I noticed my 2nd channel was slightly lower than my 3rd channel on Traktor. I selected NONE for headroom and made sure the LIMITER was disabled. My 2nd channel still sounded soft. I kept playing around with the software. I moved the GAIN knobs and moved the EQ knobs over and over.
I believe when I moved the LOW end EQ knob right and left that may have sorted out the problem. Traktor didn’t show the LOW EQ as being out of sync with the mixer so that was a weird thing to see.
I have another gig coming up Saturday so I’m definitely going to play around with Traktor every night before then. Now, I know while booting up the computer and the mixer that I need to make sure I’m getting the same power on both channels. This has never happened before so I’m not sure why it’s happening now.

ParticipantCOINCIDENCE? I was just sitting here thinking to myself what happened to the sound from Traktor while I was doing a sound check before a gig this past Saturday. I use a Denon MC6000 Controller, Macbook 13″ (2008) and a registered copy of Traktor Pro 2.5. My partner and I usually plug into his Behringer Mixer. I also plug into my Behringer Mixer at home.
Well, for this particular gig we decided to plug into the MC6000 because it is truly a stand alone mixer. It appeared that Traktor and the Controller weren’t giving me that full sound. I don’t use Traktor’s LIMITER any more so as I’m sitting here typing this I’m wondering if it was some how enabled so I will need to confirm that.
I will add that I had Cross DJ opened in the background at the same time Traktor was open. The sound coming from Cross DJ was similarly a little weak too. After changing up songs a few times, we noticed that the sound appeared to have been corrected. Although my gain knobs were sitting 12 o’clock I did twist them to make sure they were synced with software, but I don’t think that should’ve been a factor because the problem wasn’t the loudness, but having a FULL sound.
What’s evidence of this is that my partner’s mixer/cd player was plugged into the MC6000. All I did was set him on the 4th Channel and his system was perfectly fine. However, Traktor and Cross DJ were having problems at first and then all of a sudden the sound was FULLER.
I also noticed that the speed of the songs seemed a little slower than normal during the gig. What could this be? Is it the laptop showing a few signs of age? I didn’t keep Cross DJ open all night. I just used it for cocktail hour. My wireless card was also turned off on the Macbook.
Just a weird situation. I remembered Broom having problems with his version so I wondered if anyone ever ran into similar issues with Traktor too?

The easiest way to learn about songs, beat and song structure is to learn the old way of beatmatching. Not because you need to do it all the time and you will not have the knowledge to mix right, even with the sync button. So the question in the end is: Do you want your mixes to sound “somewhat ok” or do you want to DJ?
That DJ Iceman….LOL. Miss his rants on Youtube.

ParticipantMy story is that Traktor’s beatgrids aren’t always perfect even after pressing “auto beatgrid”. Therefore, I better know how to beatmatch or else I will have a few runaway trains on my hand..LOL. And then too, I’m too lazy to sometimes fix the tracks where the auto beatgrid function lacks. Also, there are some old school tracks where the tempo changes and there is no fix to that. Well, not that I know of. So beatmatching is an essential skill.
The moral of this story is to not rely too much on technology, but to have a good foundation of your craft.

ParticipantBoy! I’d only had my Denon MC6000 a couple of months before Pioneer introduced the DDJ-SX with the keypads etc. I saw all the pretty lights on the controller and Serato DJ and almost turned into a “gear head”. I wanted the controller!!! I wanted to get rid of using Traktor and go with Serato…change of scenery.
Once the fresh coat of paint dried, all was well with me. Do I still want the DDJ-SX? Well, maybe, but it’s not something I want to go pick up today. LOL

I would say stick with what you have. Does the 3000 or 2000 have the through facility? I thought they were usb powered?
The MC3000 is almost exactly like the MC6000 but without the 4 Channels and probably a few features here and there. I’m not sure about the 2000.

ParticipantHey, Broom. Have you tried using Traktor’s Demo Version?
Coltrane09
ParticipantI hear ya. However, I will still need to adjust the Master Volume as I don’t use Traktor’s “limiter”. In my situation, I found that working Traktor without the limiter enabled provided a better sound over the PA.
