ParticipantI’m not sure if you’re doing a gig at a venue (club, pub, etc.) that will already have speakers in place, or one where you’ll take your own PA speakers, but Phil uploaded a video on Youtube this week explaining that your PA speakers can double up as your monitors depending on the set up.

Participant@Rob: Are you a mobile DJ?

ParticipantThanks for the heads up Kent and Terry.

ParticipantJust watched Phil’s video about “How to Get People to Dance” and he explained everything and addressed my question in the video.

ParticipantGreat story! I’m curious to know the grimy version of Adele’s Someone Like You that you played?
Thanks.

ParticipantI’m curious to know what type of emotions or psyche is created by turning the volume down lower for 20 minutes and bring it back to a banging level? I’m digging this topic as I am just around the corner from setting out to do my “real” first gig soon.

ParticipantI’ve tried to skim through the responses and I’m not sure if the OP mentioned if he was willing to switch from Serato to Traktor? Also, I wonder if the OP took the time out to go check out the club’s set up to know what controller will work for him in the short and long term.

ParticipantActually, it’s a great question. However, the set of AV40’s I purchased didn’t have the Bass Boost switch. The power cord was attached to the left speaker. I believe the power cord for the AV40 you’re referring can be disconnected. Looks like a design change.
Just in case you don’t believe me..lol…here is a link from Amazon showing the latest version available on the market: http://tinyurl.com/9ygk9b3

ParticipantO oh…lol I’m glad you chimed in and told me the importance of using monitors. The Mackies I’m referring to are the MR5mk2s. I’ll check out the KRK Rockit 5s since they’re in the same price range as the MR5mk2s. Thanks for responding.

ParticipantSo are the Sony 7506’s durable for most people, or is it common for the ear cushion to come off after time? I have about 28 days left to return the pair I purchased this week. I also like the budget of the headphones, but if there are some that are better build and more durable for DJing please let me know. I may actually keep the Sonys and get another pair as back up. Hmmm.

ParticipantThanks for the tips. I think I’ll give the Odyssey black/silver flight case a shot then.

ParticipantHey, perhaps the Mackie forum is describing the same issue you’re having? Check this link: http://www.mackie.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=117598
Everyone described their issue or problem early on and a poster named “The Norm” on 5/12/2011 @ 3:33 PM chimed in and mentioned that he contacted tech support. He provides his results which were favorable on 6/1/2011 @ 8:20 PM and “EDNYKING” followed with another favorable result.
If you have a gig coming up soon you may have to find an alternative if there’s no immediate solution available. Both Norm and ED had to either send speakers off for repair or void warranty by replacing the parts sent to them by Mackie.
Good luck!

ParticipantThe Av40’s get rave reviews over on Amazon. This past weekend I was anxious to hear them at Guitar Center, but they weren’t hooked up. I’ll definitely check them out before making a final decision to get the Mackie MR5’s. If my budget wasn’t an issue I would probably check out a couple of Yamaha’s and the Pioneer reference monitors.

ParticipantThanks, Hee. I’ll definitely check that out next time.

ParticipantIt is strange, and it’s happened to me several times already. I’m using Traktor Pro 2.5.1 (latest version?) and it’s quite annoying because you have to close out Traktor and go back into iTunes to clean up the mess by creating an AAC file. When you reopen Traktor there are two songs displayed one “corrupted” version and a “good” version. I’ll probably check with NI with this issue as I am subscribed to a thread that’s reporting bugs with the software. Next time I’ll check to see if the corrupted files are MP3 which I suspect because that’s the only option I have when right clicking on song.
