@ rfb Thank you too for listening to an hour-long mix 🙂 Glad you liked it!

Yeah, i find it kinda hard to stay consistent programming-wise. But You got my intention 😉 When will your next mix be ready? 🙂

    Hi rfb,

Enjoyed your Mix! It maintains that kind of funky techno throughout the set – I liked it!
What jumped to my ear was the transistion from “Good music” to “Spastick” – the sudden lack of bass was a little bit to heavy (for my ear 😉 ) I would have faded out the lows more gently, maybe using a loop of it. But thats just my opinion 🙂
Overall, its well made. Got to dig some new Techno tunes …. 😉

Actually, i think the mixer is worth it’s money (no offense intended, terry_42 🙂 )

I own and use it in my setup and the sound quality is excellent. If you’re looking for nothing to fancy, portable and with the ability to mix mic/2 audio sources, you should consider it – depending on what you would like to do with. So,how would you like to use it?

    Hi all,

its been a little while since my last post (part-time job – 9 hours a day assembly-line, vacation, chaos at the university). Finally found time (and money) to upgrade my “booth” (ironing board, i mean 😉 ) and my gear to my likes.

    • An used Dell XPS M1530 for Djing, my other one for recording (video and sound)
    • Aerial Tank7 Headphones
    • Kontrol S4 (my s2 has a new home, soon)
    • Maschine Mk2 <3
    • Kontrol F1
    • Midifighter 3D
    • Korg Monotron Delay Synth
    • Behringer Xenyx 302 USB-mixer for routing Microphone/Maschine/Monotrone into S4
    • An old but juicy sound-system
    • DIY IKEA DJ-Booth
    • estimated 300km cables

So much for my update! Happy mixing everyone!

Maybe you should consider buying two of these , or something similar. Or you could buy any Tripod-Laptop stand and try to find a add-on to it for placing your controller on it. Just a suggestion 🙂

Thank you 😀 You have to use what’s there – I wish i could use it continuously, though my other half will reclaim it now and then…

It’s an insiders’ tip, definitly perfect for delivering orderly, smooth beats…;)

Oh you use linux? nice 🙂 Me too, but not for djing, because I didn’t have the time to get into mapping with mixxx and my s2 is not supported yet.

I would like to use my netbook for mixing with mixxx, its battery lasts for ages and with linux theres enough power left for running the program without perfomance problems.
I know, the labeling of the I/O of the soundhardware in linux is kinda bad. You always have to try which channels actually belongs to which in- or output of the hardware.

But I’m glad you worked it out!

Did you tried asio4all ? Its an ASIO audio-driver for nearly every audio device!
According to this forum post, the settings for mixxx with asio4all are:

    Sound API: ASIO
    Sample Rate: 44100 Hz

    Master: ASIO4ALL v2, Channels 1 – 2
    Headphones: ASIO4ALL v2, Channels 5 – 6

Try it and report if it helped 🙂

The other main concern is jog wheels which would be as easy as adding another attribute to tell the program the tics per revolution, they have not done this and I don’t expect it to change as it would make competitors hardware which is generally better quality more appealing.

Sorry i misunderstood you 🙂 Yeah, equal competitors for less money certainly isn’t in the interests of NI/etc.

I started using VDJ and made some sick mapping for my VMS4 but I’m now using traktor and every knob, button tousch strip on my VMS and Radius are mapped to do something, the jog’s on the VMS are mapped to FX I use the jog on radius for normal use.

    Inner cinema on

Fellow DJ: Hey, may I spin a bit on your gear?
    You: Sure:
    Fellowdj touches a button
    *freezedelaybeatmashertransposecombo*
Fellowdj: what the heck, i just pressed play?!?

    Inner cinema off

    :p

But im the same, every knob or fader has to do a job or two, if they dont, get them one 😉

I wouldn’t call mapping in traktor accessible for beginners ^^ a mapping wizard would help a lot.
I’m worried reading your opinion – i mean – even more restrictive? come on… But as you said, the F1 fits into the development of keeping it simple & modular.

But for me, before buying new gear always raises the question: “Can i do more with it than whats described on the package?” Before bying the F1, i already imagined what i can do with it besides the obvious. Like mapping it as a midifighter (the 16 pads screamed this at me :p) or a simple 2 deck controller and so on… so cutting this possibilities down wont result in buying new gear. I mean, plug and play, hardware and software tightly together (rings a bell? 😉 ) isn’t as bad as many would say. It just works. But i think many djs/controllerists/artists (me included) want to use their gear their way. This resulted in ways of using certain gear no one ever thought of it, not even the manufactures.

I hope it doesn’t change – but its always about the business i guess.

Yeah, thats exactly how i am 😀 If something doesn’t work the way i want it to, it has to be fixed, at all costs 😀 (including staying up till 4 o’clock am, tinkering on the same all the time … 😉 ) Thanks for the tips 🙂

BTW, what really bothers me in traktor is the fact that you only have 2 contitions for modifiers to assign… life would be so easier – > a full featured s2 mapping with all tricks – than assign a third condition to each item and voila – a 4 deck mapping without being limited by modifiers. I simply cannot understand why Native instrument has limited the Mapping in such a way. It’s not a technical issue i guess…

Michael Lawrence, post: 25043, member: 856 wrote: I do my own. I will write down what I want and list out modifiers and just go at it and save the tsi. I find for me anyway it makes more sense to create it cause your much more familar with the controls. At the same time I have tried other mappings online and I have been quite happy with them

I should really start to write modifiers and a scheme, too. Thanks for the hint 🙂 I always start out of the blue – got lost sometimes during the mapping and didn’t found that one error hidden deep within the modifiers…

I guess the desire to map your controllers to your need comes with the geek (at least a little one 😉 ) that resides inside of each digital dj, i presume.

I should have been clearer concerning the crashes: what i mean is if your mapping is somewhat faulty it can wreck your whole mix – like false conditions on modifiers in traktor – happens to me a lot 😉
32 hot cues….thats like hotcues all over the song 0o Sadly, in traktor you have only direct access to 8 hotcues, could use some more though. I agree with you, digital allows you to get your stuff doing exactly what YOU want. Sometimes its a bit time-consuming getting it right. But Traktor mapping is great pain – No easy copy-paste, a ridiciously small window… whish i had a Mac for the “xtreme mapping” program. Is VDJ more intuitive? or Serato, if someone knows (for sure;) ) ?

@ Norris sk8 I thought about mapping my keyboard for additional controls, too, but somehow the layout / look of it doesn’t appeal to me as a good fit for DJing – i like buttons and knobs/faders a lot more than keys 😉 Why did you sold your x1?

What do think of controllers like the Midifighter 3D? a bit over-the-top or a new way to enchance your perfomance? or controllerism, the “dark art”, in general? (may as well open a new thread)

Do you think it maybe reasonable to establish a mapping section here in the forum?

Now im off, practicing my skills a bit 😉

Hi 🙂 Let’s see if i can help you.

    • What do you mean you cant use your akai Pad controller? You can map it indeed to additional hotcues.
    • For your Headphoneproblem: Have you tried different Headphones? are the Windows-Soundsettings messing things up? (they love to do that…) Check your routing options in your DJ-Software (i could tell for traktor right now,but not for VirtualDJ) What i also could think of is that something prevents the Headphone plug to go in properly.
    • And no, your not silly ^^
    • As an Add-On Controller for tweaking effects, i recommend the Akai LPD8 – it has 8 knobs and 8 Pads (Note and CC messages) and four banks, so you have essentially 32 Knobs and 64 buttons on a slimline controller. With the Buttons you could controll the on/off of the effect units and with the knobs you could control their parameters. you also could use the pads for hotcues – And gains 🙂 You also can map everything out of it and use it as a “full” controller 😉 Cost: about 50€

    Hope I helped a little bit 😉

    greetings, clockwise
