Okay, will try to wear it on every gig from now on :p5Raw, post: 42893, member: 9991 wrote: What laptop are you using?
I tried syncing maschine and traktor on windows, but the midi clock/bpms were all over the place. So I bought the download of OS.X (15β¬, was worth every penny) and installed it with trickery on my old dell XPS1530. Since then trough the internal IAC Midi-Port, my Midi Clock for syncing has been rock stable. I’m saving up for a used Mac book, tough. I get the feeling that my Dell will fall apart soon … :/

Thank you very much π i will keep it up for sure! Regarding the mixing of genres, I choose one main theme/genre of the mix, slipping in some single tracks that are going well with the main theme. For example, i think this (click this π ) trance track works rather well in within a bunch of deep house tracks. You could check out my Youtube below, too. Although there are genre-specific mixes; me trying out dub step/genres i haven’t mixed before.

ParticipantThe first thing that comes to my mind is the following:
If your audio interface you’re using for Traktor Pro has inputs, you can plug your iPad in and route it as a live input into one of the Traktor Pro decks.
This is the only possibility i can think of since there’s no type of integration besides metadata synchronization at this time.
Hope it helps!

ParticipantTo each its own hat! If it’s this important, i will make it to an essential part of my setup!

But hopefully not the very same :p
PS: Here is a Set with tracks i mixed on Friday, Chill Out. So you get an idea what it was like π

ParticipantSo, here’s my update on the gig π
I arrived at the destination where a friend of mine (the barkeeper) picked me up. I was already way to nervous – we stayed a bit at his home before going to the club and i literally felt physically ill – damn you, nerves..
We arrived at the club where i was told i would play outside because of the incredible heat (40Β°C at 18:00) and nobody was in the interior. So we built a makeshift djbooth out of wooden bar stools. Here’s a (bad angle) picture of it :
So I started playing (19:00) , hands shaking and incredibly thirsty π I divided my playtime into miniature sets with respectively about double the tunes i needed. I started with nice some nice 90 bpm chill out tunes with lots of, ehm, chilly melodies. Was working to the 150-120 bpm as the majority of the quests came in (~20:00). Then I began to bring in my deep house tracks / set. My mix was not genre specific, i tried to fit in fitting electro/tech-house and even some trance, too. I played like this till ~ 22:15. At this time i took this photo:
I moved on to groovy tech house until the and at 23:20. Then i had to turn out the music because because of the nighttime peace and the possibility of the police coming due to complaints from the neighbors. I packed my gear and went inside to talk with the club owner.
He was quite pleased and asked me when i had time to come again π He is planning to make this night a regular event (Sunset Dream every Friday) with changing djs, me on board π He suggested i could come on an evening when there are more people which are willing to dance on so i could bring out my non-chill out tracks π We talked on till the location closed and nobody was here anymore, was about 1:30.
I’m “quite” happy how it turned out in spite of my fears and nervousness, I’m really looking forward to the next gig. But i continue to chase other opportunities to spin (like a big birthday in august on which i’m invited)
There are a few photos more, taken from a friend of mine. I will put them here when they arrive. Thank you all for reading π If you have questions, ask away!

ParticipantThank you guys π
Will burn a few CDs – and I have my iPad with TraktorDJ as a backup, should be sufficient.
I hope i forget nothing essential…god im nervous…
Marcel Wambsganss
ParticipantIf you have an iPad you can grab this alongside TouchOSC!
Yeah, i heard that, too. What you can do is to build several minisets (or remix sets) of loops you know that go well with each other. And then mix it like a whole tune, like “normal track” out into “loop track” into “normal track”.
I think this would be a reasonable approach to your problem π
Marcel Wambsganss
ParticipantI fancied the Idea of full-loop mixing as well, but stayed away from it – its too much work. The amount of preparation is ridiculous (i think) till you have a reasonable large library of loops to assemble a whole set with it.
I stay with 3 Decks + Maschine, i rather play the songs out and add a little percussive elements, thats enough for me.
I didn’t read it in your post – have you considered a F1/remix decks? It would be perfect for your approach!
But keep us posted, i’m interested in your progress π

ParticipantI like your name very much! Despite i absolutely hate math – the Calculator is the salvation π
The one with the red and the turn-around “L” are a bit irritating, cause my brain tries to see a half square embedded above the first three letters – Do you see it? π
I think, in the first one is the best readable. I personally would like it better if the “u”, the second “a”, the “o” and the the last “r” hat its “holes” painted black (and maybe something with the T) – This would look much more consistent and i think the blank letters aren’t looking nice in contrast to the ones with black.
But all of this is only a suggestion – I hope I gave you a few ideas!
Cheers

ParticipantWhat the others said – stick to your name as it is and toss the Dj aside. Just in case you need more conformation π
And be glad you don’t have an horrendous surname like me (WambsganΓ  )

ParticipantHello,
Great idea you got here, SimBa! I don’t know much about how deaf people could handle all this, but I’m half-deaf, have tinnitus and I will try to give you some insight what problems a hard-of-hearing DJ might face:
Beatmatching by ear is terribly difficult for me, I have to do it with one ear with the help of the cue/mix knob. A brain can separate different audio sources without a problem, given some time to learn – IF you have two good ears. Even people who are hard-of-hearing on both ears are better off than me in this case. Imagine all audio information reaching your brain is like it is given a big bowl of LEGO, your one ear saying to it: “figure out the bits you want yourself”. Which leads to the next problem:
Exhaustion. Loud music and concentrating on what you hear exhausts your brain/ear after a period of time. With hard-of-hearing people, this occurs much, much faster, since the Brain is constantly figuring out what to do with the crap your ears are sending to it. For example, even following a lecture in the University is pretty straining and tiring for me – from an acoustic point of view. This leads to another Problem:
Background noise. This is my worst enemy and of many other hard-of-hearing people, too. I rarely visit a club with people I don’t know well. Why? I hardly understand them because of the background noise (music π ), while they can understand each other very well. And People are getting tired repeating themselves really quick. This is a real problem i face all the time; Even if you pointed out you have hearing problems, people get tired of saying things again and be like “whatever, not important”. This is getting me really angry…
The Point is, communication is very difficult in a club environment, which can lead to some problems like misunderstanding important things concerning your Djing. Here are some things you might need as a DDj /HOHDJ:
- As already said: Using the waveforms and cue points. Deaf/hard-of-hearing people have a better hand/eye coordination (i guess) Train your hand/eye coordination: Look at the waveform, see the right point to drop your next tune, with the right cue point, right in. DDjs /HOHDJs rely on it. Maybe play some PC-Games which are benefiting the hand-eye coordination, like Ego-shooters (CS) or speedy RTS games like Starcraft 2.
- Everyone that has something to do with the deaf/h.o.h. – Dj (manager, bouncer…) should know about it – In case of emergency they will come with a written note – no room for misunderstanding!
- Know your tracks inside out. This one is for all Djs, but for the ones with hearing problems all the more. Your Brain needs do familiarize with the tunes so it doesn’t have to work so hard.
- A kind of a thick hide – You need it, more than others.
Oh – wow, Wall of text :DHope you get some info out of it!
Cheers

Might buy the f1’s on eBay if that’s what I decide since i obviously dont need another Traktor license. If I got a used Maschine on EBay would the Maschine software work? I don’t think it will bc the serial numbers have already been used by someone else…I may be wrong.
No problem – i recently sold the traktor license of the F1 on eBay – you can un-register your serial at Native-Instruments; afther doing this it’s free to use for others.
If the seller forgot this, you can send Native Instruments a photo with the product and the serial on the CD-Cover and they un-register the Software for you (Happend to me)So, don’t worry π
