ParticipantWell, you’ll have harmonics above them, so I would guess that you should still generally be OK… it depends on the style you play, I reckon. If you play a style with a LOT of booming sub-bass, then that’s probably not the PA for you, but for the vast majority of styles, it is probably fine.

ParticipantI also find this interactive chart very cool and awesome.

ParticipantThe sub-bass range is 20-40Hz, so starting at 50 will give you bass, but no sub-bass – however, you’ll still feel the thump from your kick. I cannot address if this is an issue, as my knowledge is technical, not practical… but the high end seems fine, it extends well into the ultra-high frequencies.
I dug up The Frequency Spectrum, Instrument Ranges and EQ Tips which I find very useful, that might also be useful to you (and others).

ParticipantFor that matter, if you’re only really concerned about being able to practice, why not just use headphones?

ParticipantThe other thing is that, while software theoretically could guess at some cue points, those cue points would really just be tailored to the preference of the coder who created the system – which may work for you, but at the same time, you would find yourself tending to fall into the patterns that someone else has defined. If other folks were using the same software, then you would tend to sound like everyone else, which would probably not help you to stand out as a DJ.

ParticipantSomething that might help – the video post, since it is locked, is actually almost invisible on the page. I don’t know if it’s possible, but having it stick out really obviously seems like it would be rather beneficial.

ParticipantThe site you’re on has a video course called “How to Digital DJ Fast“, it’s a good place to start. There are several other courses available here that you can use to expand from there.
I am also a n00b, but had a much lower budget than you do, so I won’t be able to give a great recommendation there, but you should be able to get How to Choose a DJ Controller from registering on the website, and then use DJ Controllers: The Ultimate Buyers Guide 2014, also hosted here, to help your selection process.

ParticipantI have my Instinct sliders and knobs mapped in spots in Ableton, I’m positive it’s doable with the Reloop in FL.

ParticipantAs a DJ who has not played a club yet, I think I still would’ve said No when he told me the style and I knew I wouldn’t be able to play it.
If you are at all comfortable with Virtual DJ, you could consider picking it up and subscribing to Content Unlimited. This is a service that lets you download a whole ton of tracks off of Beatshark – high profile artists and such. It’s not perfect, but it would probably be good enough for a request DJ working a wedding, so it might be enough for what you’re going into. You can only play these tracks in Virtual DJ, but it will be a cheaper solution than buying up every single you can find.
If you are able to take requests, and can have some sort of net connect there (your phone tethers, right?), then this might work well… the audience can help drive what you play, and you will come away with a good chance of having played what the audience wants.
The name of the joint isn’t “Big Bob’s Country Bunker,” is it? 😉
Good luck, man. While you’ve been getting suggestions for how to make it work, do seriously consider telling the guy “No.”

ParticipantRight on. I’ve actually found a technique that works very well in certain cases that I haven’t seen anyone else talking about, so I’m going to make a video of it, I’ll post a link here in the forums when I’m done, of coz.

ParticipantFrom everything I’ve heard, that does seem like the path… Serato seems to do a great job of catering to the experienced Vinyl/CD DJs.

ParticipantFor what it’s worth, this thread has been hijacked pretty extensively, and is now not even about controllers any more. Not terribly upsetting or anything (I tend to hijack threads with silliness myself), but the answers to your questions will be better structured if you create new threads for your questions instead of tacking them onto an unrelated thread.
