ParticipantThose seem rather expensive for hobby controllers.

ParticipantI mean, it’s the cost of a video game, which puts it into the “consumer level” price range, IMO.

ParticipantActually, the pricetag isn’t terrible… but it DOES use Always On DRM. Its accuracy rate is super, though… 95% accuracy rate on key detection. Second best is the free/open source Keyfinder, at 77%, but it does only key, not BPM.

ParticipantI live in Purmerend and work in Amsterdam. Playing every Friday here has indeed resulted in me picking up a gig in Berlin last weekend (that went pretty well… some snags, will probably make a post about it), and met the owner of a small but moderately successful indie label, so it was a really great gig. I got that gig because one of the DJs playing there heard and really dug one of my Friday Flavourites mixes.

ParticipantThe Fast course is decent if you have zero knowledge, but it does not go into very much depth. I bought it, and did learn from it, but a lot of what it covered I had taught myself before getting the course. The larger courses may give you more benefit.

ParticipantOh, man, done THAT! I’ve done it a few times now, so I am a lot better about remembering to reset the key knob now.
I’m still developing my technique, and branching out and trying new things… harmonic mixing is a good place to start from, as I enjoy how my mixes sound, but I am working on expanding how I can work things together. Using the +/- 1-2 semitones to move a song elsewhere in the wheel has been a really good trick, though I admit there were a few times where I did the math backwards.

I’m Alaskan, but living in the Netherlands… there’s a strong contingent of Dutch folks here too.

ParticipantOK, the Deadline set can now be heard at Mixcloud. I do accidentally drop the music around the 50 minute mark, whoops!

ParticipantAh! On my laptop, some of the ports provide more power than others, so that might also be your problem.

ParticipantAs I said, in my case, I am not very good at constructive criticism because I am not good at understanding myself why I don’t care for something. It’s slightly easier with my own tracks only because I have spent a lot more time with them.
That said, I will be happy to do what I can, but it is rare for me to be able to actually identify what could be improved.
As Cheeku said, Soundcloud is your first point of contact, though… that’s the best way to distribute the tracks you want input on.

ParticipantThat can be a bit tricky… you will get some responses from forums, but a lot of times, tracks and mixes don’t get a whole lot of comments on them. That’s not to say you shouldn’t, but be prepared to get limited responses.
For comments on original productions, it seems like DJTT generates more responses than here, but even so, it’s usually just a couple of people responding.
I honestly tend to tap my friends who are also producers for input on my work, and even there, I have to tap them individually to get much response – if I post about it to, say, the mailing list I’m on with several other guys in my demogroup, I rarely get much response, but if I IM them individually and ask them to give me constructive criticism, they’re more willing.
I think the problem is that many of us are a little nervous about giving constructive criticism because of hurt feelings and so forth, even when we know the person wants it and can handle it.
I would offer my assistance in checking out your tracks, but I’m actually not very good at constructive criticism on music because I oftentimes can’t give specifics very well… I can say “I dug it” or “I didn’t care for it,” but I am usually no good at “too much bass here, punch that up, tweak this or that” type responses.
