ParticipantYeah, Cross has some very cool features.

ParticipantThough it can be a whole lot of fun to transpose the notes from minor to the relative major (or vice versa)… “Since when does Nirvana make HAPPY music?!?!?” 😉

ParticipantFor what it’s worth, DJUCED isn’t exactly a stellar piece of software anyway… but the Instinct will work with a lot of the other DJ software available. If you’re on a budget, maybe Mixxx would be a good (free) choice. Alternatively, if you do a bit of shopping around, you can usually get a used copy of Traktor for about $50 (or less – I paid $35 for mine).

ParticipantThere’s a good article at Wikipedia that gives you what you’re looking for.

ParticipantThis is not quite beginner technique, but you can use the mid EQ to drop out most of the vocal content of a track – it will ALSO drop out most of the rest of the music content, but this can be useful when you want to avoid a vocal conflict.

ParticipantYup… slumps happen. Don’t beat yourself up over it… and don’t push so hard that you make it worse.

ParticipantI’ve tried OneDJ on Windows, but just the trial. I like some of the ideas, but the UI doesn’t feel very well suited for the workflow.

ParticipantYeah, the cost was more than I was willing to pay just to experiment with the service.

ParticipantI agree with everything Chuck said, but would like to add particular emphasis to one point:
Play out whenever you can.
Doesn’t matter where at first, just get in front of people. A reason I am adding to what Chuck already said for this is – this teaches you to roll with it.
When DJing in the bedroom, you make a mistake, you stop everything and start over. Even if you don’t, you are a lot less flustered in the bedroom than you are in front of people, even if it’s just your mates.
By playing in front of anyone who will let you, you’ll start to develop the ability to think on your toes, and this will help you immensely.
