ParticipantListening now… will probably forget to add a comment later, sorry, but it opens pretty solid.

ParticipantIt certainly doesn’t hurt to develop techniques for both – get good at keeping a dance floor happy, but also get good at being a rockstar.
It is a very awesome journey along this path as the uniqueness of your “rockstar” technique will still bleed into your regular DJing a little, giving you a slight edge without alienating your listeners if you can manage it.

ParticipantI may pick up the extended mixes, but not often – I am not usually looking to play a track for a long time, and if I am, then I just do a live extension to it while I play. However, I do like to pick up instrumentals sometimes.

ParticipantI tend to treat energy levels in my set like breathing… relatively short cycles between relaxed and energetic, probably about 20-30 minutes for the cycle. At the same time, I may ratchet the energy so that it’s still going up, but that depends on where I’m sitting timewise.

ParticipantI have posted a teaser shot on my FB page… let me see…
I’ll try to post a direct link to the image, dunno how well it will work:

ParticipantAlso, I think you may be expecting too much after 3 months. I’ve been composing music for just shy of 30 years, and am still constantly learning (and don’t think much of my own music).
Are you doing it because you love it? If so, then continue to do so. If you’re not doing it because you love it, then you may not want to stick with it – it is very hard to get good at an art without loving it.

ParticipantIt is incredible how cheap one can get good mastering these days… for producing, of course. Warp9 will do mastering for $30 per track, and he is a DANG good producer. I’m thinking about giving him a go in the future, although for right now the label I’m associated with is going to do the mastering for my future tracks.

ParticipantThanks! I was able to start using it this weekend, although I am still having some sync issues that need ironing out before I can truly play out with it.
