Actually… if you are in the United States, you MAY be able to use it under the Fair Use laws… as a school project, it is for educational use, which is sometimes allowed under Fair Use.

I am not a lawyer, though, so… honestly, for just a student project I wouldn’t worry too much anyway – though if you upload it to YouTube, it could be susceptible to takedown orders.

If you can afford it, and you feel that the expense is worth it, my opinion is that you should just go for the big boys.

Actually, it’s not the only way to keep the original swing in Ableton.

Load the track into Ableton and then extract the groove from it… then quantize your beats and re-apply the groove. You may have to trim the groove, but probably not.

Try to set up in a way that protects your gear as best you can, and also have yourself a few towels immediately available to catch spills quickly.

As Martin says, if you’re getting gigs, then whatever, but it sounds like you’re not if he’s saying things like it might help you get in there to play for real.

I don’t really see the negative to this. He wants to use your set as filler between live sets. He’s not claiming it for his own, he just appreciates the sound and thinks the audience will too. It sounds to me like your gut is lying to you on this one…
