I have the powered mixer setup because of Best Buy’s advice. I dont have any personal attachment to that setup, I think I am going to go with Behringer Eurolive B215D. they are actually powered unlike the stagepas 500 which the guys at best buy told me was powered. I am doing all djing, i get calls for gigs and roll out and play. Will i be able to use the jbl 518s subwoofer with the Eurolives without any issues? What do you guys think about this gear?

    Plans for a next gig?

Well the guys that hired me said they would definitely bring me back again and they said they would tell other student organizations about me so I will probably be getting more calls in the future. 🙂

They wanted house music, which is like my specialty, they told me to play Tiesto, Hardwell, Calvin Harris, SHM, etc. and also some like Top 40 songs. So I found cool remixes of top 40 songs. I worked in the well known songs with other songs which I liked that were lesser known or by lesser known artists, because it’s hard to fill a 4 hour set with just well known stuff. And I threw some trap in because they asked for a little hip hop touch too.

Thanks for all the advice guys. People came up to me afterwards and told me I played a great set. But a combination of poor turnout to the party and me having to compete with 5 LOUD karaoke rooms and music coming from the bar in the downstairs part of the restaurant kind of had me playing to 4 or 5 people for most of the gig. The peak was when I played “Gangnam Style” (Don’t judge me it was a request) and like 40 people started doing it. I actually played it again on accident and everyone just danced to it all over again. Then I played Rattle by Bingo Players and people liked that. And then it just kind of drooped because the karaoke rooms got even louder and people went into them. But yea it was still fun I played a good set, people danced, I got paid, I enjoyed it. Thanks again for all the help.

I assume you probably have a facebook or twitter or something, whenever you release anything on soundcloud, make a big deal of it on the social networks, none of my friends are even into dance music but all my EDM dj mixes get like 90 plays within an hour after I upload them. Dont have any of that self doubt, you have made something, so automatically you are ahead of like 90% of people, be proud of your creations and just shove them out there!

You might as well go ahead and split the file size at the largest possible amount, you probably wont go anywhere near that big, but why not, its not really important. And that gain thing in the upper right corner by where you start the actual recording, you should turn that up a bit or the recording will be very quiet. But before you do any actual recording, do a test run with different parts of a song like the intro and the big drops just to make sure everything sounds right.

I taught myself the basics by just pressing stuff and seeing what happens, now I am making mixes and posting them on soundcloud and getting 30 plays in 30 minutes. There is never any harm to just playing around with your gear, of course read stuff and watch videos, but pure experimentation is a great way to learn.

They just make cheap, low quality stuff is all, you definitely dont want an AMD processor.
