Thanks for the more than valuable response!
Today I go in and test out the speakers and decide on a pair for the party (which is less than 4 days away).
After reading your advice, and talking with the guys from the rental company, I think my total cost will equal out to somewhere between 130-150 (with the subwoofer included). Of course when I get there I will try to talk the price down, on the basis that I very well might be a return customer. After this party who knows what happens next. If it goes well there will be parties in my backyard all summer!
Also, I appreciate the encouragement. I lost count of how many times I’ve gotten chills and mini anxiety attacks just thinking about the fact that it’s my first real gig. That lots of people will be there. That lots of things might happen or not. And in that anxiety I’ve found a certain calm. Knowing that I can only do so much. Only some things I can control and others I can’t. This fear has also allowed me to channel my energies and really immerse myself in the music. The music is what got me here. The music. I’m learning to focus on the fun (like you said) and really enjoy the process. If I can get some heads bobbing and some people dancing and smiling then I did more than enough. Small victories.
