What kind of pricks are we then? :-p

Most clubs here (europe) do no longer have turntables, they have CDJs and a mixer, but you can hook up a MIDI controller and your laptop also.
I am not a fan of the ION system and I would not use it to play a gig.
My advise would be: Get a low budget midi controller and you possibly have a laptop already. Subscribe to our course “how to digital DJ fast” that can be found here: http://djtips.co/fast-info/
First make up your mind what software you want to use, then choose a controller.
Our free controller guide can help you there:
http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2011/12/dj-midi-controllers-buyers-guide-2012/There is a new low budget controller that is not in the guide the Reloop Beatmix, which is very nice if you chose to go for Virtual DJ. Many others chose the Mixtrack Pro from Numark, which kind of is the “most bang for the buck” low priced controller. (And you can easily play your first gig with this equipment)
You can learn anything you need to know on such a controller and the software. If you then want to go for CDJs you will have no problem at all and you can even switch over to a DVS (digital vinyl system) very easy. So this should give you a nice start.
Solid advice. You should put this as a sticky note on the home page for all the newbies who are asking the same question and save yourself some time Terry! 🙂

MemberSounded fine. You can ensure you get the best sound by making sure your files are good quality. Most of mine are 320k files. Very few if any are 128k.

MemberI agree. The 100 is getting a little long in the tooth as well. If it was me I’d take the 3000.

MemberIf you want relatively easy to use software, and the full version, why not consider Algoriddim’s djay? Nice price and it leaves you more money to put into a controller. There’s quite a few natively supported, and it’s got a easy midi mapping app if it’s not supported. List of supported controllers here:

MemberNo worries. Good luck. Did you get the gig?

hehe. Could make a good sample though if you really messed with it.

MemberI’d agree with Nicko. I understand that you only want to go through the purchase process once, but what can often happen is that your first controller and software will often teach you what you REALLY need. And often it’s not those bits of kit. And that’s fine, it’s all part of the process and doesn’t need to be expensive.
I’d say do the course, do your research on what controller/software combos feels right, make a short list, and then purchase second hand. The if you want to upgrade, or try something else, you’re not losing a ton of money on the resale.
If you read the threads in the showcase section of DJ forums, the one consistent thing you notice is that people rarely keep the gear they start with.
Good luck and have fun!Bunyip

MemberYou need to give more information, your music tastes, playing style, where you play etc. and really, the advice you’ll get will be to find the software you prefer, and work back from there.

MemberYou’re dead right Phil. As an old school spinner who is used to spinning wheels, I initially couldn’t bring myself to consider it. I wanted wheels! But this little unit does everything I need pretty much – it’s a smart little unit and a future classic.

MemberAnother coincidence Steelo, I’m into snowboarding as well! My mission next winter is to get him and his sister onto a plank and hurtling downwards at a rapid rate.
