ParticipantI have recently started using the Remix Decks and the way i use them is not actually for live remixing but for Hyping the crowd (stuff like Hands in the air and other loops like that to throw in) and then for transitions, i have taken loops from different tracks that i can throw in if needed to spice it up a bit… Might give it a try to build a live remix set or mash up set but have not really put too much time into it yet

ParticipantI have tried DJ City and was well happy with that… had a good backcatalogue but unfortunately due to lack of gigs i had to drop it. When i get my gigs sorted again i wanna try DMS Direct Music Service as it looks quite good but also expensive im afraid.

ParticipantNo problem glad to help.. and feel free to ask when you get your twitch if you need help 🙂
By external Midi Device i mean something like a Midi Fighter (search on youtube and you’ll see) or a novation launchpad to take care of the effects

ParticipantYes obviously they are very different in workflow.. which is why i pointed out that i could only talk for the Twitch.. i was in the same situation when i got my controller (this being my first) i had my eyes on the S2 and the Twitch.. i really wanted the S2 because of the freedom to map effects and stuff down the line, but unfortunately it was a bit over my budget. so i turned to the Twitch which i made a very good deal on second hand.
I would say the same look at what you want to do with it and how advanced you want it to be, Traktor is an advanced piece of software but VERY powerful if you learn how to use it properly and its great because you down the line can add more Midi controllers for effects and stuff. Serato Itch is very easy to learn to use (which i found an advance as a beginner dj) but it lacks in the possibility to map it and to use external Midi Controllers.
I cant speak for Ableton Live, im sure its a very good and powerful piece of software but i have never used it and i think it would put any beginner off quite fast. ( just my 2 cents )
For the jogwheels again we all work differently and yes they are not just used for scratching (just google Ean Golden S2 Mapping and u will see some serious use of the jogs) but again it depends on your workflow, i like the button bashing on the Twitch but again down the line i will probably change to a controller with Jogs to get more options.. But again the Strips are very easy to use if you ask me.
So best for you would be go to a shop and try out some controllers including the ones you want and look at videos on youtube as well to see what others do with them before you decide

ParticipantSerato ITCH is free and comes with the controller.. no need for upgrade or anything… Then you will get a free update as well to the new Serato DJ early next year when its released for twitch. So no need to spend extra money here 😉
Yes you can record your sets within the software… Feel free to ask if you need more info

ParticipantCan just add regarding the Novation Twitch (which i own)
I was by no mean the kinda person that would rework tracks and was not really sure about it either as it was missing the Jogs.. But now its a different thing.. the Twitch just makes you wanna do these things, i often find myself playing around with acapellas, beats and loops, its just that you cant leave all the buttons now that they are there.. and i absolutely love it.. Serato is a good piece of software although i would like a better mapping for it for Traktor. Might have to bite it and try and make one. Or wait till Serato DJ comes for it, that might change the whole thing u know.
And for the Jog Wheels.. no need for them unless you wanna scratch 🙂 the strip is so easy to work with.

September 14, 2012 at 11:13 am in reply to: Maschine Mikro, Novation Launchpad or Midi Fighter 3D ? #1012152Claus Hyttel
ParticipantFor triggering samples in Traktor i would say Midi Fighter as the other two are built for a certain kind of software and more for production (some might disagree here)
But have a look around on youtube what people do with the different ones and go for what you feel would fit you… im actually looking at the same stuff but i want it more for the production part to do remixes and mash ups and im leaning towards either Launchpad or Maschine

ParticipantWhy dont you use the record function in Serato? that would be the easiest way.

ParticipantI have a Dell laptop with I3 and my Serato runs just fine.. have tried Traktor as well without problems. but can not speak for VDJ..
What kind of issues is it that they are having?
