MemberThanks for the replies! I’ll wait and get proper studio monitors.
I was looking at the HS50Ms, I heard good things about them but they need room treatments to get the best out of them.

MemberI like how Terry put it lol, I’m a huge fan of Denon myself and this sorta worries me although I don’t think I won’t be affected by it presently with my MC3k and Traktor. It might affect my future purchases from Denon though.

MemberSince I’m cheap, I like going to free music blogs, groups on soundcloud, I also have to like a bunch of stuff on facebook. But it’s been decent so far. When I do buy music it’s mostly from Amazon or Audiojelly, rarely do I go to BP or Juno.

MemberI grew up on a X-Session Pro, and Torq I really digged the software, shame Torq 2.0 lost support it looked beast!

MemberI use Goldenwave in it’s Evaluation (free) form, years ago you can only take so many actions until it stopped working and you had to reinstall it. Now it works just like any normal software.

MemberI was in the same spot as you almost a year ago, I had the MTP for a little under a month but then I got the controller I had my eye out for, an MC3000 and because of a time sensitive coupon I got it 25% off. Instead of VDJ I use Traktor.
I’ll vouch for the MC-3000, but if your at all in doubt about any controller I suggest you go to your local music store (mine are Sam Ash and Guitar Center). And see them in person, all metal construction and durability is what sold me on the Denon.

MemberJust ordered a Big Namba and a White Crane Stand. 161 dollars, free shipping. Hope the reviews prove me right 🙂

MemberYea, I’ve been doing research and some bags are even over 200$ 🙁
EDIT: I’m pretty close to buying a the Big Namba, it’s currently going for under 100$, I’m worried about the straps ripping, which seems to be the most common complaint.

MemberOne of my favorite sets I’ve ever done is a mix of deep house, progressive trance/house/psychedelic trance/techno
http://www.mixcloud.com/benacosta/music-for-the-eccentric-mind-vol-3-eoty-edition/ (recorded at low volume 🙁 but I think it’s worth listening too)Digitally Deficient is a close friend of mine and a really good DJ, his music collection is really good! This is my favorite mix of his, particularly because it’s not like the mainstream hip-hop that I despise with a passion. Yet, this hip hop is influenced by the one and only Nujabes who was influenced by Jazz, rather than money. Although I’m sure he earned enough of it.
Sadly, Nujabes died too soon, this mix is dedicated to him.
http://soundcloud.com/eminent/digitally-deficient-nujabesOne of my favorite DJ’s on DI.fm’s progressive channel is Idacio, really smooth mixing, great programming, awesome sets to get lost into. This is probably my favorite mix of his.

MemberI don’t think there is anything more important to practice than learning your music.
But if you really want to practice, turn off BPM and phase meters, cue up without looking at the screen, mix by ear. When it’s go time, you can turn those things on to make life easier. When I listen to a new track I usually have traktor up and I write what would go well with after it, I also like to imagine how a crowd would react to the next track, put yourself in their position, but that’s less practice, more mentality I guess.BshidoHEAT
MemberIf you go with Traktor use the mapping above to make sure of the LEDs! Not only is it pretty, but it helps in dark environments!
Good luck with the purchase!

Greetinx,
C.Yes, Traktor has a MC3000 mapping, but I’ve found that it only works with the 2-deck layout. The 4-deck layout I can only control the volume of C-D, but nothing else.
Also the native traktor mapping doesn’t light up unless you press a button, instead use this mapping.

MemberI’ve been using the MC3000+Traktor Pro 2 since December 2012. I’ve had a few gigs around St.Pete/Tampa Fl, and this controller is a tank, I don’t think you’ll have any problems with it at all.
BshidoHEAT
MemberIt really depends on what your going to be doing with your controller. But I’m putting my vote in for the Denon MC3000.
I love this thing so much, I’ve taken it to several gigs and it works flawlessly everytime. You can’t beat it’s build quality, your friends can play through it with it’s line inputs (very useful for me since my friend and I play together alot), small jogs but can scratch effectively on it. It’s fits in my gym bag and can withstand some abuse. Which happens more than one would think.
The only reason I wouldn’t get it is because other controllers are geared towards mapping ability or cue point juggling. You can do both of those on the MC3000 but it isn’t the most effective at either. What the MC3000 is great at is A->B mixing, and light cue juggling, and being a freakin’ tank, a portable one at that.

MemberI highly recommend the Pioneer HDJ-500, these are one of my favorite headphones and I have a few. Great sound quality, looks good with three colors to choose from, detachable cables (one coiled, one straight) 1/4th adapter and at a great price. They are 89.95 on amazon today, I bought mine at Best Buy for 79. If your watching your wallet, look out for the price, usually one of them are cheaper than the others.
As for the things I don’t like about them, not as durable as my current DJ cans (V-Moda Crossfade LP) and no carrying case. But honestly, the HDJ-500’s are great for any DJ.
