i traded in my CDJs (which i used with SSL) for a controller. i don’t miss them. it’s just easier to carry a controller from one place to another when i’m required to bring the gear. when i’m at a venue with equipment, however, i use whatever they have, which often means bringing my Serato box and control vinyl/cds instead of my controller… i guess one of my goals is to make transportation as easy as possible!

I currently have a 13″ and use two decks (SSL & Itch)… that works for me, but i’m going to upgrade to a 15″ as soon as i’m able. I don’t like having everything crunched into such a small space.

Welcome, DJ Darth! I can’t imagine trying to “Retire” from DJing! It’s good to know that i’m not the only one.

My favorite is http://www.afrodesiamp3.com. I also use Traxsource, iTunes, and Amazon. I’ve only used BeatPort and Juno once each. I’ll definitely have to look into Spotify to see what these bundles are all about. Do they provide 256-320kbps music? My one problem with Amazon is that it downloads in variable bit rate… i’ve gotten tracks that were 160kbps before… and they weren’t any cheaper than those at 256kbps 🙁

I hear you on the budget! I hope you get gigs at a nice pace so that you can upgrade if you feel the need to. I use Serato Scratch live and Serato Itch (with a Vestax VCI-300). I like VDJ as well and think that the Mixtrack Pro will get you a long way. What are you thinking about upgrading to? Most of my friends who use Traktor are into the S4 and S2.

you can post links to your mixes here. i’m not too sure about where to get free top music. i’d suggest joining a MP3 pool, which isn’t free, but will save you a ton of money.

I love the genres of music you spin, and look forward to checking out your sounds! I spin quite a bit of Reggae, Dancehall, and Soca as well 🙂 Welcome to the community.

Exactly! Make sure to include a couple of your favorite songs and once you’re feeling relaxed, play what feels right. Also, remember that this will be FUN and that any mistakes you make (or think you make) will help you become more proficient next time around!
