Not necessarily a necessity, but the ability to stand for long periods at a time comes in handy. Of course aspiring DJs with disabilities can work their way around this, so I hope that comment didn’t deter anyone.

    Welcome, Ethan.

I’m a noob here as well, but I hope you enjoy your stay all the same. The Mixtrack is an awesome introduction controller, everyone I’ve known who’s owned one managed to get the most out of this unit. Never used Djay, but I’ve seen many videos posted of DJs absolutely going HUGE with the program. In truth it’s only “amateur” if you sound amateur with it.

Checked out the mix. Dude, you have no fear on the jogs ! ! Made me miss the backspin on my old Vestax even more . . . I don’t have any constructive criticism, I’d just advise you to keep training and defining your sound while working on beat matching (Perhaps beat griding if you rely on sync) and mixing. The energy was infectious though, fun mix indeed

I also would be weary of opinions from anyone who hasn’t used the controllers they comment on. For instance, I was considering selling my S4 in hopes of purchasing the more portable Novation Twitch. From what I’ve read and seen it seems like a viable option, but I’ve never touched let alone seen one offline. I could absolutely hate the look, feel, and workflow once acquiring one, you know?

Thus far my favorite controller to date would be the S4. I’ve tested models from Vestax, Numark, Hercules, American DJ, and Denon, but have found the S4’s layout most suitable to my sensibilities. My only improvements would be booth outputs, Vestax jogs, metal chassis, and the feel of the x fader . . . A BPM counter like the 4D would be boss, but perhaps a tad greedy lol

I truly appreciate the swift and constructive responses by all, many thanks ! !

All the music I’ve acquired over the last 1 ½ years since I began taking DJing seriously have been purchased legally to ensure quality control, but many of my obscure tracks that distinguish my selection and craft my sound were previously acquired through more dubious means.

I’ll try Spek out being that its been recommended here and in the DJTT forum. Worst case scenario is that I’ll lose ¼ of my library which will bring me around 600 + tracks. I believe Phil has stated on several occasions this number is his ideal, so GG.
