I usually call it the 5 o’clock traffic jam sessions where radio DJ’s tend to get in a lot of songs before the traffic is reported…LOL. Sometimes the DJ’s in the clubs will do the same thing, but it really depends on the crowd.
Yes, it sounds good to do a traffic jam mix because it keeps people guessing and dancing in their cars, but if a crowd in a club is loving a jam I just threw on I wouldn’t suddenly change it after the chorus to another tune. Depending on the length of the track, I may start introducing the next song when there’s a minute or so left to go from the first track.
Thats exactly what I’m talking about. As you mentioned, The 5 o’clock traffic jam type of sessions om Urban radio. The Morning Mix type of thing. Or the Lunchtime mix. They really get’em in during those sessions.
I’m actually working to get a set like this into my repertoire (sp?) lol.
What you said at the end makes sense. These are fine in those radio type sessions. However, if its in a club, I wouldn’t think you would do it for too long.
I’ve lean towards playing a lot of Old School Hip-Hop and R&B from the 80’s and 90’s and to take folk down a memory lane type of rise suits this type of style.

ParticipantThis discussion reminds me of the debates between Nikon and Canon users on the photography messageboards I frequent or the Android versus Apple debates for cellphones.
In the end, it boils down to personal preference I guess.

ParticipantI completed the $9 course but it was the Digital DJ Fast course for $47 that really took me to the level I needed. Throw in the a few searches on YouTube and you really can be up and running fast.

ParticipantI’m also a part-timer. I have 9-5 as well as an entertainment company on the side. I have no intentions of trying to dj clubs, etc. I’m really only interested in do private parties, cookouts, holiday parties, and perhaps a regular gig at a bar/lounge maybe. I’d even consider doing weddings in time.

Participantive heard good things about the thumps then I come in here and my dream is killed! i was looking at the thumps and Behringer since that is about what my budget will allow.

Participantafter further research, I think im going to get 2 powered speakers. im going to run my rca from mixtrack pro (left and rignt) into one speaker using a rca to xlr converter. Then, I will daisy chain the second speaker to this one. This way one speaker will be inside where I will be and the other speaker will be outside on the patio area. This will give sound in both locations without the use of a mixer. I just hope the mic will sound good being run through the jack on the mixtrack pro.

ParticipantOk, after scouting the venue for my upcoming gig, Im thinking I may need a mixer. I will definitely need two speakers. One will be next to me or near me to provide sound to the inside bar/lounge area. The other speaker will go outside on the patio area. So, Im thinking, I have to somehow get the sound to both rooms using just two powered speakers (the budget wont allow for more than two speakers). I know its best to have two speakers together for good sound but I just cant see it happening with this gig.
This being the case, should I get a mixer? Is it necessary to split the sound to two different rooms? My only audio sources will be my Mixtrack Pro and a Microphone which I can route through my Mixtrack Pro.
Any suggestions?

I’ve learned to always listen to the opinion of the ladies. Looks like DJ Big Syd is winning the race now! lol

And for what it’s worth, I prefer Big Syd, to Syd-Digital.Hmmmm, maybe I should reconsider. There is a well known DJ in the area that plays events and is on the radio named DJ Big John and I was trying to distance myself from him. I may have to just roll with the DJ Big Syd or DJ Syd maybe.

Love your intro. Welcome
We spin the same genre so stay close. hahaThanks. I will do just that! lol
Maybe you can help me out with some of my mixes. Right now, I’m doing a lot of straight cuts and dropping on the one when working with R&B and Hip-Hop. If the BPM’s are close I may try other ways of getting into the next song.

I will try my best to contribute as much as possible.

I just Wiki’s the DI Box. Sounds like a winner. Thanks.

ParticipantOh, and thanks for the replies and assistance.

ParticipantCool beans! Sounds like a plan. I will probably end up buying my own soon. I think its $35/speaker to rent (plus $5/stand). After a few rentals I will have pretty much payed enough to buy a pair.
NORRIS Sydnor
ParticipantI guess I could just bite the bullet and rent a pair of speakers instead of one. Or, Maybe rent a mixer and feed everything into the mixer and then run XLR to the speakers from the mixer.
