    Thanks Bob,

Well, as you’ve mentioned and if I remember correctly traktor on my T1 worked with almost all of my music whereas sync On rekordbox works with practically NONE of my music so this backs up what you have said. I play mainly house/deep house/techno. No “EDM” for me. I AM a Brit after all!

Yes, it’s DEFFO the software. But a part of the problem is there were NO instructions with rekordbox and I havent a clue how to use it properly. Someone suggested doing this and doing that which I tried yesterday the end result being a track that’s now 30bpm and not 130bpm! I want something that (as near as dammit) works. After all, what’s the point if “analysing” each track when you have to then visit each track and “analyse it” by ear afterwards? This is why I bought pioneer. I thought the software was accurate and up to the job. It is not. After researching this a little It seems very unprofessional to 1 release an untested product which pioneer has done, 2 provide little to no instructions whatsoever for the software, and 3 sell something that supposedly “analyses” something when it clearly does not.

I generally only use sync to get a bpm, then disable it after lift off as I think it’s cheating but even so, once sync is pressed you should be able to forget about tempo adjusting as it should be in time and not wander all over the shop. Using this method should work but in this instance it actually makes mixing worse. It would be nice and confidence building to know that if you are recording, and if a mix goes awry, you can still press the magic button and it will correct itself. If I do this there’s no way of knowing in advance whether the track will “skip” onto the wrong beat or not when the button is depressed. I can’t believe even with taking into account what we are saying how poor this software is at beat and bpm matching. Awful. Ok it (digital) still has its advantages especially as I’m working away from the UK in the middle East but now I know these things I can’t help but wish my audio Technica decks and vinyl were here. Digital saves on carrying vinyl, and I can obtain new music by downloading, but I hand carried my setup including powered monitors, and paid excess baggage charges only to discover I need a firmware update and perhaps remove all my music from my device and start afresh. Yes I’ve a USB stick and yes I’ve an external HDD with my music on but NO I don’t have a laptop just an iPad so can’t download any update for the aero until I go home in a month from now. Another month with no hobby. In this particular instance digital is no more useful than analogue would be. Any advantage of using digital has been equalled by disadvantage.

As you’ve seen ive mainly used traktor as well as serato and I’m not particular as to which I use, and I’ve got on really well with a friends DDJ SX. Maybe this is the way forward for me. I haven’t a clue how to beat grid, or use the rekordbox software. I just wish to plug and play. Not plug and review and review and review etc.

I was hoping there is something out there that is up to the job. Digital djing is not a new thing. I can’t believe I’ve been using this format for at least five years and this has never come to light.

    Thanks Bobl
